Recipients - please tell us about your QSAR -ROO!!
My husband & I had an absolute blast! I have said this, and we both agree, that in our 18 years together, 12 years married, we have never had as much fun together as we did at Bonnaroo. That right there is irreplaceable & unforgettable. So once again, thank you so very much.
Ever since I won the scholarship, my husband had had mixed feelings about coming to Roo. He is a homebody, not at all a camping type of person. He needs his bed, his AC, his big screen TV. For a year he had heard me rave about my experience last year, & he just wasn't sure if it was for him. You cannot imagine how happy it makes me to hear him say several times this week how he wishes we were back on the farm & how much he can't wait until next year. I am a very happy person right now, thanks to QSAROO & all the wonderful people involved.
I wish I could have hung out with you guys more & will definitely plan on it next year, but this go around it was wonderful to spend time with my man. To experience it all again thru his eyes. To spend 4 days together, not worrying about jobs, money, kids, etc. Just to be with each other. I believe we saw over 40 shows, drank WAY too much, meet a ton of great folks, & ate a bunch of yummy food. We even went to Skrillex rocking our crowns & my RooTu! I believe a few of you got a drunk text from me Saturday night. Sorry about that!
I'm so excited about the future of QSAROO & the role I want to play in it. I so want another couple to feel like we felt last week & continue to feel now. I am all about lighting candles from here on out!

We had a great time from hitting Mike D's and finding out we had surprise guests (they were yankees, but we don't hold that against them ;D) to running to our car at the beginning of a rain storm on Monday. We got to see a bunch of people we had met before and met many that we had not had a chance to hang out with yet. It was great to see how the spirit of QSAROO is in every Inforoo gathering. Every camp we went to was more than generous with everything they had. This was our first year of being part of the Inforoo crowd at Bonnaroo, and I can't fully express how wonderful it was to see a group that comes from a hundred places with a hundred different viewpoints get together and be a community that loves and supports each other like you guys do.
I had to dip on my Happy Dance to see Ben Howard, but my lovely (and much more talented) wife stepped in. Along with maemae, she ended up winning the contest which, from what I hear, came with a ticket that will get gifted next year. Personally, I am really excited to be able to be on the other end of the giving process this year because I know how happy we were when I got mine this year.
Thanks again to QSAROO for my ticket and for just existing.
Custeph... there are a thousand thoughts in what you have written. We need an 'old married farts' challenge next year. Roo is a place to be kids again without the kids, the job, the bills, pets, the worries, etc etc even if for only four days.
Maynard.... you lucky lucky swear swear truck driving swearing man. Your wife is SO beautiful inside and out. This says it all..
Those Teddy Bears got raging drunk at Mike D's, got into Sarah's No harm bling, passed out, best i could tell none peed on the floor, and still (someone say still? thinks i need a drink) rallied in the morning to cuddle with Abra.

My buddy and I had a blast as usual at Roo but this year for many reasons the experience felt elevated to a whole other level.
Musically I felt like the quality of performances was the best it has been since my first visit in 2009, the weather was fantastic, our camp neighbors were awesome, the food was great, the brews were great, with a potentially smaller crowd (?) and an expanded Centeroo things felt much more roomy, etc, etc, etc.
Having never met any inforoo'ers in years prior and having won my tickets via the predict a band contest, I was determined to meet as many of you and other board posters over the weekend. I have to say that I succeeded to a great degree (despite missing brunch) meeting plenty of board members all weekend long and it was such a rewarding experience. It was really great to meet so many friendly and like minded people from all over and from such a wide spectrum of ages and backgrounds who shared a common ground. This made all 4 days that much greater.
I hope to see you all again next year (if I make it), perhaps will meet you again if you are at Moogfest, and if you ever have reason to be in my neck of the woods beer's are on me.
first i have to say that i feel like in general my life has been very lucky, i work all year with my students some of whom hate it when summertime comes b/c they do not know who will take care of them or where their next meal will come from. i have never felt these fears and to even be able to go to bonnaroo to me seems like such a luxury in the first place.
i have been to bonnaroo three times before (08,09 and 10) and in 10 when matt died, i just really did not think i would come back. i love bonnaroo but there just seemed to be a lot of things in the negative column that would probably lead me to go to other fests instead. so in 2011 i went to coachella. (i had a great time. don't get me wrong, if i had enough money, i would def do both fests every year.)
this year i started posting a lot more and i also started chatting with everyone in the chat room. while i already have at least one person from here i considered a close friend (holla cks!), i have made so many more through the chat room and they have been there for me in ways i didn't think possible (from "internet" friends anyway).
funds have been pretty tight this past year and after i had my kidney surgery i knew i would have never been able to come if i didn't have my qsaroo ticket.
thank you qsaroo for letting me have a bunch of lemonades. thank you for letting me experience the best weather in bonnaroo history. thank you for letting me see some of my favorite bands with some of my favorite people. thank you for letting me have a few days where i forgot the things in my life that are complicated or tough.
people who have never been to bonnaroo don't really understand. thank you for embodying that spirit of love and generosity. love forever!xoxoxoxx
Sorry to have taken so long to post this. I want to thank the people responsible for providing Will (willsfc) and I with our Bonnaroo armbands. I've been going to shows since 1975, but only a few festivals, but nothing like this one. I've always wanted to attend Bonnaroo being so close, but it just never worked out. The past two Hangout Music Festivals were great, but Bonnaroo was a whole 'nother level. I thank you guys from the bottom of my heart. What you guys do is a fantastic gesture that renews my faith in music fans and people in general.
I also have to thank Brian Howell, a Bonnaroo veteran from Manchester, who let us stay with him. It was nice to leave the parking lot and be in a house in literally five minutes. The walk to the car took longer and that wasn't really an issue.
With will "showing me the ropes," I got to see 20 full shows and between the two of us, we taped 19 shows in four days. Most of them are on the LMA, etree and The Traders' Den if you're interested. I think we saw portions of at least five other shows, could be more.
The weekend went off without a hitch. We had no problems bringing in audio gear and were NEVER shut down taping FOB in tents and at the What Stage. Everyone I encountered was friendly and the vibe was fantastic. I noticed that at most every show, the majority of people were watching the shows and paying attention to the music, rather than talking to one another. The exception was some of the "artist pass" people at Phish. Their talking was annoying as hell, but one bad experience did not ruin the fest. Phish still delivered, IMHO.
I loved everything about the festival and even though we saw everything we came to see and more, I still felt like there were things we didn't get around to doing. There was always something to do. The sound in the tents was great and the What Stage was fantastic. I never made it to any acts on the Which Stage.
I apologize for not getting up early enough to make the get together and thank you guys personally. I think we made it about 1 p.m. Friday and I hit The Other Tent for three new grass bands then met Will for Radiohead. He split early to tape Avett Brothers, Rodrigo y Gabriella and Radiohead. Made it for the beginning of Rod/Gabby and after Radiohead, we headed to a tent to get ready for the Umphreys show. I worked my way into the tent during Major Lazer, a dance act, and found myself in the middle of a bunch of dancing kids because I thought the show ended earlier than it did. It was fun and I made it to the SBD rail just before Will and another taper, Nate. And yes, I made it through the whole 31/2 hour show and walked out of the fest at 6 a.m., something I've never done before. Oh yeah, I'm 52.
I won't bore you guys any further, but the ONLY negative for me was the dust. By Saturday night, I was sneezing and occasionally having trouble breathing, but it wasn't an issue during the day Sunday and it eventually cleared up and turned into what felt like a cold. Good thing I took Monday and Tuesday off work, but I'm still coughing up a little dust. It's still not enough from keeping me from returning, hopefully in 2013.
Again, I can't thank you guys enough for what you did. I'll always have these great memories (and tapes!) of this wonderful weekend I got to spend with my kid and many new friends!
It is hard for me to talk about. Unless I am AT Bonnaroo I tend to keep a low profile. The majority of my Inforoo posts are Brunch related, I'm a super lurker. ;D
So anyway, how was my 2012 Bonnaroo?
IT WAS THE VERY BEST BONNAROO I HAVE EVER ATTENDED. I had the easiest drive, with 2 young and handsome Inforoosters keeping me company - thank you Dan'ROO (aka StandInDan) and ODB. I met up with folks In Nashville on Tuesday night for drinks and some overdue visiting and Jess kindly let us stay at his place. I slept with RDK's sister. Wednesday I had breakfast with JHO, ITM, ODB & StandInDan. Later in the day I the joy of meeting the cutest little Inforooster on the planet, Nature Boy's sweet, sweet baby girl. We rolled in that same afternoon with virtually no line and were parked in BFE Pod 1. Even though we couldn't get out it was awesome! Several of my favorite people were stuck there as well, and we got the party started right. Thanks to our newest Belgian, Jelle, for helping move a mountain of gear to Camp Inforoo. It was the best, most fun camp! Everyone did such a great job setting up. My campmates were all fabulous. I didn't stop laughing the entire time. So many people stopped by through out the weekend! Brunch was awesome, as usual. I was happy to finally meet some people and see others again. A year is a long time between hugs. The music was great this year (do not count Unchained) and I went to quite a few shows with Inforoo friends. The weather was absolutely unbelievable, we were pinching ourselves over it. When you complain that your water isn't melting fast enough? That's a Bonnaroo problem, haha. There were still some waters with ice on MONDAY!!!
In summary, Bonnaroo was magical this year. My only complaint is that I ran out of time and didn't ride the Ferris Wheel. I'll just have to come back in 2013.
I was so happy the whole time. My favorite Bonnaroo ever. It started with Radiohead on Sunday night with billypilgrim & friends and didn't end until I took ODB to Union Station on the next Tuesday.
The drive down with Dan'ROO and ODB was the best. Super traveling companions.
Meeting up with Inforoosters in Nashville on Tuesday night then staying at wolfmanjess' house.
Exploding cans of warm craft beer. ODB tasted it and we looked for a leaky Belgian style.
JHO recounting her spectacular good time at Daniroo's wedding reception. And reading my shopping list thinking 'Dan food' was dog food. haha.
Camp Inforoo. Completely worth the work to move our stuff from Pod 1. (If you ever need help moving call a Belgian!) Riding on the back of a festie cab pulling a wagon loaded with camping gear.
All my camp mates and everyone who stopped by throughout the weekend. I will never do it any other way again.
Beer bong watching party. Everyday.
Brunch, of course.
Painting lots of fingernails blackish-green for Alice Cooper. So fun! A girl with spectacular painted breasts came in Camp and was so happy to have found us again (?) cause she wanted her nails painted. That was awesome.
Running into lordrockinghood at the Brewers Tent on Thursday night. Running into people there all weekend. Beer never tasted so good.
Ben Folds Five with RDK.
AfroCubism with billypilgrim
AfroCubism at the Sonic Stage.
Sarah Jarosz on Sunday morning with a bunch of Inforoo friends. We won't see her on a stage that small again. Or shouldn't.
SOJA with nursn'deadchick. Magical.
The end of Unchained with bonzai. They were terrible. So much fun.
The Shins front and solo.
Radiohead solo and thinking the grass was really wet when it was my Camelbak leaking. Who gets quacking COLD at Bonnaroo?
Jellyfish @ Phish
The arepa I had from the Airstream food truck. Best thing I ate all weekend.
The rain beating down that dust. I could breathe so much better. Mud >>>>>>>>> Dust.

Ohh QSAROO you guys are amazing! I had such a blast at Bonnaroo this year, and the icing on the cake was when I got to meet all of you wonderful people. I've never seen a group so caring, generous, and of course- outrageous Another thread was started titled "What do you regret" or something like that.. I REALLY wish I would've stayed at the brunch longer. I had a blast. That's the one thing I can say I regret.
Scrog: "Do you want to sub for the Happy Dance" Me: "Sure ;D "
Little did I know that I would ACTUALLY be shakinn my booty in front of my new found friends. and with such a WONDERFUL partner too. Abra, I know I thanked you for the dance, but really- THANK YOU. Perfect first Brunch experience, and hey- now I got to come back since I got a ticket huh? If you need another partner, I'll be there sista!
I was given 2 bags of awesome QSAROO gifts, and fun stuff to play with, and I was told to give one bag out.. Well- All you guys kind of got the better of me with your generous personalities, so I actually gave both bags away.(BUT I did however keep 1 of the bears, and one of the lightup saber/sword thingies. Just for memories) And people were SOO excited. I gave our neighbors a bag, and they just looked inside it and said "This bag is full of awesomeness".
Thanks again Bunny, for doing the brunch! The rumors are true- You really are the woman for the job And everybody else, you're all incredible people, and I SOO can't wait for next year!!

Dave actually won the ticket we received from QSAROO but since we are a duo it helped both of us. We had a string of bad luck starting with me being let go by two clients of mine cutting 1/3 of my monthly income out and then our car breaking down to the tune of 700 dollars, a month or so before Roo. We were so stressed about money already and then a string of good happened. I won tickets from groovebug and was able to resell them to an inforoo friend for less than face and a local gal who was so excited to go. That still didn't give us enough to get the car fixed but then my brother and dad said they could do the work. We ended up with 20 dollars extra after having the car fixed so we bought the kids a pizza and enjoyed our good fortune.
Had Dave not won the QSAROO ticket we would have still made it to roo however we wouldn't have been able to do things like TuTus, drink, party, or really anything except gas and pb&j. Our string of good luck continued as we got to meet Quacker and Fawn the night before heading out, at MikeD & Popsarah's. I got incredibly drunk and Fawn took care of me <3 The next morning we dressed up the bears and were off to Roo. Last year was my first year and we didn't know anyone. This year blew last year out of the water! Brunch was way more fun than I ever expected. I got to meet so many great people and dance with MaeMae, who's hip shaking and smile still has me grinning these weeks later. She gave me the hammock that we jointly won and I swear to tote and set it up at whatever fest we go to together so she can use it too. Infooroo is the most giving, caring, interesting bunch of people out there. Period. I've never been more proud to be a part of this community. I think at least once a day "When do I get to see these folks again?" and "What can I do to make some else's experience as good as mine?" I don't know why but it's much easier for me to offer up what I have to someone I don't know at all since QSAROO/INFOROO. I want to make everyone feel as good inside and know this group of people. Thank you QSAROO, all the work you put into this, all the love you spread.
Scrog: "Do you want to sub for the Happy Dance" Me: "Sure ;D "
I actually think it went like this:
Me: Hey scrog, let this new girl participate in the happy dances Scrog: That's a great idea! Maemae, do you want to sub for the Happy Dance? Maemae: Yeah sure!
And then we all enjoyed some amazing booty shakin' ;D
Thanks to QSAROO, me and my dad (mstaper) had a great time, I think i sold him on bonnaroo too haha. Taped tons of shows, enjoyed the perfect weather, and even helped someone who is going through a rough time in life right now get a ticket and get to enjoy saturday and sundays events.
Thank you so much QSAROO, and sorry i did not make it to brunch.. friday was a long day.
ok, I have a few minutes uninterrupted time now, so here goes:
I had resigned myself to not being able to go this year. Like many other families in these economic times, we have been hit hard. I have been supporting my family of 4 by myself for 4 years now. I am thankful to be in a profession that will always have work, although I will likely never get rich, so we have been able to at least cover the basics.
there is more to the story but this is not the time or place. Anyway, for awhile I didn't post on inforoo at all because it just hurt knowing that I probably couldn't go, and didn't want to be constantly reminded. But after awhile I just had to come back. I missed the camaraderie and the characters too much.
So...one day I got home and found a message that a ticket had been donated to me. I cried with joy and with the realization that someone had been amazing enough to do this for me.
fast forward to Roo 2012. My daughter was able to scrape up enough of her own money for her ticket...(we've been to every one together since '09). She convinced a friend to come along as well.
So, on Wednesday afternoon I'm getting the car packed and waiting on Maggie to get home from work. I check inforoo a few times during the day to see what is going on with lines, etc. I found a message from a random guy needing a ride from Atlanta area whose friends had changed their plans at the last minute. Figuring this was a good way to "pay it forward", and since he was sort of on our way anyway, I took a chance and gave him a call. He turned out to be an amazingly cool young man who was a great travel companion.
Once we got to Roo, we trucked some stuff to tent only and set up until we could borrow a wagon (I think at this point I should thank Whoreshack for letting me use his wagon ) during this time, the rest of my party made friends with a nice group camped next to us who had met up at the airport on the way in. They ended up hanging with these peeps for most of the weekend actually. I spent most of my time at camp hanging with Inforoosters but enjoyed a little of the other group's company as well.
I can't say enough about how great the experience was camping in Camp Inforoo. It was so nice to always have somebody there at camp to hang with. I had the pleasure of getting to hang with Bunny a lot, which was wonderful I made so many new friends, and it was so nice feeling as if Brunch were being hosted in my house! lol.
Now about the happy dance...I jumped up and totally intruded on a dance there at the end and I'm sorry. Actually I thought that I was supposed to be on the program since I was a recipient...but when I never got called and the alcohol started workin' and the toes started tappin'...I couldn't help myself. I'm sorry I wasn't trying to steal anyone's thunder. I just love dancing as some of you figured out later in the weekend..lol.
There are so many little moments that made the weekend so special. I think that running into Inforoosters at so many shows and having partners in crime made it special. I got to meet some people that I knew through the board and FB but not in person, and it was as if we'd always known one another.
The Rootus were so much fun. I hope that we do that again. I got so many compliments from random people on my Rootus. I am not sure that I ever would have worn a tutu in public had it not been for you amazing people...but it seemed so natural and was so much fun.
There were so many little things and little moments all weekend...but added together they are epic. And so are you...love y'all. Thank you so much!

Sorry Kim, that is my fault, I thought I had everybody on the list. When I started to notice some people were not there, things got a little confusing, I had to improvise, then add in some alcohol and excitement and I may have gotten a little confused. ??? Trust me, you should have been "Happy Dancing"! Are you sure I did not call your name early on? IDK remember, so sorry, my bad.
Maemae, thank you for stepping in. You and Abra were the hottest happy dance, evar! Nice work, Thank you!
I've avoided this thread too long, so here we go. I'll keep it nice and short.
Despite saying that I was going to go I think at the end of the day I probably would have bailed on Bonnaroo if it weren't for QSAROO. I don't know why but I just wasn't excited for this year at all. As things got closer I was excited to meet people but for some reason I just was not expecting to enjoy this year for some reason.
Boy was I wrong. The weather, the music, and most importantly the people set it up for a truly special time. From Wednesday evening to Sunday night this was by far the best Roo I have been to.
