i know, apologies for dropping that intensity on you so early on a Friday morning. feel free to leave work and start your weekend early!
I actually have a somewhat similar confession. I never know Mark Kozelek aka Sun Kil Moon is the bass player in Almost Famous. Just found that one out last night.

Do you like being sad? Can you follow a single run-on sentence for three minutes?

Eh. I listened to him in college and liked it well enough. But then I forgot about him until he bullied The War On Drugs. So my instinct is no but a lot of people love him so it probably can't hurt.

i enjoy other sad music (The Smiths, Joy Division, Depeche Mode). My undergrad is in english so I read a lot of modern/postmodernist literature, and a lot of Kerouac/Beats in high school, so I can follow run-on sentences.

I've only really listened to the album Benji, and I started listening to it a couple days ago when I was getting to work and two songs in I was like "fuck it's too early to want to hug my mother this badly". The music is good and simple, the lyrics are excellent, if somewhat self-indulgent sometimes. Very personal. I like it though.
Also if it makes you feel better, I've never listened to The Knife or Fever Ray, so you're doing just fine.

cool, thanks for the direction.
you should listen to The Knife's "Silent Shout" at some point. it's a great record.
I only found out about Daughters from the Album of the Month thread a week or two ago. I gave their new album an honorable mention vote, was second after Windhand. TIL, they're a Rhode Island band.
I really should start paying attention to the local music scene here, cause there's been a few times now there's bands I've listened to and come to find out it's actually local.

They're experiencing the break up making the band bigger. The only reason I know them is because I had friends in bands that played with them in the early 00's. It's weird for me to see people talking about them here.
I learned about Daughters when the new album came out, too. I saw it on an album release list and thought it was Daughter. It was not Daughter. I didn't make it through the whole album.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

So yesterday (Friday) I get all my shit together by 9:55 am. Logon to forecastle and get ready to snag presale. 10 am arrives--ticket link doesn't work. I refresh the page maybe 17 or 18 times when I realize forecastle presale is next Friday. I'm losing it.

i didn't know anything about them before DfN 16 (which i guess was a reunion of sorts)

Yea I think that's when the reunion started. They're freaking all over the place now. I saw they made npr album of the year list.
I really enjoy this new Ariana Grande track. It's totally ridiculous and it's definitely not good, but I've listened to it some 22 times since it came out.

I believe I just became a Dead head. I've never really been that interested in anything I've heard. Just heard something on college radio that took up most of our 20 minute drive. It was live and about 90% instrumental. Lots of really interesting bass that made me think of Primus or Mars Volta.

Phil Lesh (the Dead's bassist) is possibly the most skilled/talented musician in the band, so it makes sense you got sucked into the Phil Zone.
rather than the song itself, knowing what year you were listening to would be most helpful for your future development as a Dead Head. they had different members during different times that changed their sound (but Phil was a constant throughout). so one song from 1967 is going to sound different ten years/twenty years later, and then once you get into the 90s it gets real different.
i'd think most fans would say the most "classic dead" was 71-79, and objectively it's hard to argue with that. but i am partial to the early 80s brent mydland era, cause i just love brent. and the early eighties shit was definitely a little druggie but not scary or sad yet, at least not in a way that comes through strongly in the music.
that was more than you needed to read. glad you enjoyed that dead track, hope you enjoy more.

I tried to Shazam it but it couldn't pick up what it was even on the vocal part. The vocals were the only reason I even knew what it was. It didn't sound like any Dead I ever heard.

was it kind of aggressive sounding? wondering if what you hard was The Other One. vocals start around 10 minutes in.
