I was a little disappointed because everyone kept on talking about how scary the ending was and when I watched it, I wasn't really scared at all, but just kept thinking "wow this is so cool" or "wow, I love the use of bleep bloops here." I was honestly more scared in the first/second acts with the abdomen cutting and the bear attacks.
as such because it didn't live up to the hype I was expecting, I felt kind of disappointed but I don't think that's fair since this was a very beautiful movie and it was very good.
anyway, that being said, it did make me very mad that Ventress's cancer was just randomly introduced in a throwaway line by a minor character.

It's odd that people would describe the ending as particularly scary. I agree that those people misled you. There are a couple earlier scenes that are extremely frightening, like you said. The monster movie stuff. The woman-bear, the gator-shark, the insanity of the previous crew.
I think if you watch again, you'll notice that cancer is referenced a few times, and I appreciate that the movie doesn't hit you over the head with it. I didn't personally connect some of those dots the first time through, maybe because I was experiencing the movie so viscerally. The affair stuff also stood out more on later viewings.
I think it's a really well-crafted movie. It gets a lot messier than Ex Machina, but whereas that dealt with computers and A.I., this one is biology and aliens. It's also the single-best representation of psychedelic experience I've ever seen in film.

This movie is so bizarre. I love it. Eddie Brock just prayed to Jesus to kill Spider-Man. And it seems like Jesus is like "bet." because bad shit immediately starts happening to Spider-Man.
