Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
Most people that find us in search engines are new Bonnaroo members just searching blindly for info of Bonnaroo.
I don't know much about webmastering and meta tags and all that, but I think it's an interesting point to consider that a new board with a new site WILL probably have an effect on where we pop up in the search engines. Google and other engines are going to have to crawl and cache an entirely new website, regardless if the domain name is the same or different.
When I type "bonnaroo information" into Google, " is the fourth hit (not inforoo.com). I think what WLV was getting at is the new site will no longer be at the top of the list when googled. Search engines spiders are an enigma I don't understand, but I thought websites only earned google credibility by the tracking of meta tags and how often people click on links that lead to that site (See: google bombing). That is my assumption, because I really don't know much about webmastering lol. So please correct me if I'm wrong.
I'f this assumption is correct, then I suggest we keep the proboards board interface preserved and archived, and when people visit it, it is clear that this is an archive of posts and the new site can be found _________. We should also migrate the "cream of the crop info threads" to the new board and keep them alive and active so new members can contribute and still ask questions. (Leo, Fawnmart, I'm looking at your threads.....)
Please ignore me im off based, but I just wanted to chime in my two cents. I'd hate to see this place lose it's traffic. After all, noobs make it fun.
Yes, that would be a good idea. In addition you can use redirects in the htaccess file to hard redirect current inforoo.com links to the new site so they don't disappear from the search engine rankings (I believe). Guessing Joel probably knows about these things though.
I've been cramming for exams so I haven't had a chance to respond, but you both nailed a key issue. The Proboards URL, not Inforoo.com, comes up in search results because Proboards does not allow htaccess for 301 redirects. Yea, kinda sucks, but in the long term I believe we'll overcome this obstacle.
now here are my foolish questions: 1. will the new site have a smartphone interface? or, like proboards', will we just use our browser? 2. will it be easier to upload photos to the new site? I've always found it rather awkward to upload photos here...not impossible, just awkward and time consuming...but maybe that's just me. 3. Can we have a thread or place to list the threads that we want saved and migrated over? Like Leo's, or the "RV looking to party" (as for examples),...humorous and useful threads that should be preserved for perpetuity? 4. Can we do something so that we are easily located on a Google search by newbies? (that's how you all got stuck with me, after all)
1. We are shopping for forum software that is smartphone friendly, providing access to the forum without having to use the browser.
2. We hope to accommodate this request. Personally, I'd like to see a gallery of some type on the new site.
3. Sounds like a good idea to me.
4. Once we're closer to a launching the new site, search engine optimization is a big one on the to-do list.

For #3 I had imagined that the mods would post up a thread with a list of the ones we thought should make the journey over and then any others that we miss or did not think of would be suggested/posted by everyone on here
But as it has been pointed out....we're still a good while away from moving so we'll worry about that when we get there. But it certainly doesn't hurt to start making some mental notes.

Damn yeah that's a pain in the ass. Oh well, yeah should be easy to work around.
hey guys, i saw ITM this weekend and he stressed to me that they plan on closing the boards for at least 5 months and then sell it to the highest bidder who will then charge us a daily fee. Also, you will need to provide your social security number and 3 credit cards to register.
...but don't worry, all proceeds will go directly to the Romney campaign

Shonda is part of the new admin team right? Cause I already gave her all my credit card info.
This ENTIRE thread and the changes that took place almost two weeks ago completely escaped my attention until Druid told me in person about it tonight. (And now I realize it's because there was another thread with this name that had some drama a few weeks ag, so I avoided this one thinking it was that one. Does that even make sense?)
Anyway, now that I've read ITM's first post and am informed, I would like to say:
BRAVO to the mods!!
This is what a community is all about, stepping up and fighting for something you believe it. I'm so happy and proud to be a part of this online community.

As much as I love swearing, and I do, I think the curse filter is worthwhile only to the extent it takes the bite out of personal attack between posters. I seem to be in the minority, but that's my opinion.
Freshy, as far as ownership, yes. He did state he would be around as a user. He is welcome here anytime. Although I have not seen him for a little while either. Life gets in the way sometimes.

I have an idea that may be unpopular:
the ability for users to change names at will confuses me. I know I can click on the users profile to find out the real name, but sometimes there had been so many name changes I don't even recognize the original name (changed my hairstyle / so many times now / I don't know what I look like).
I say this as a newcomer to the forums here. I'd imagine forum veterans have an easier time keeping up.
I think having consistent names builds community through familiarity. how do others feel about this?

it's probably just because I've had the same handle and avatar for the past seven years of interneting. maybe I should go crazy and change it up. that would be wild. y'all would be like "woah".

I've done this as well and for the most part people that change their names on here tend to revert back to their original eventually. Were you around when everyone was "SBTRKT"-ing their user names and putting masks on their avatars? It was a fun little thing but most people reverted back eventually.
I've changed my name on here once as a joke but for the most part I've used this username on here and other boards for years.
This is my second name, sometimes the name changes are practical. Mine was Knoxville for years...I chose it as a homage to where I lived, and out of pure lack of imagination and laziness. when I moved I felt the need to find something different. :-)
