You've heard of more than Me LD... But with WS and G-land going ape shiiit crazy I know there is some good quacking music that even quacker has not turned me on to that I've got to check out. And i thought quacker knew everything music that's not brandy new. : ) Really liking what little he's queued up for The Relatives.
Exactly how I feel! Any other festival and I think the reveal would have really upset me, but how can anyone be mad at Wilco? Excited to learn this lineup!
Obviously I know of Wilco. I think I saw Neko Case open for MMJ in Boston back in '11. I saw MMW in Boston a few months ago.
I've heard of Os Mutantes from another board, it being mentioned. I know of Autumn Defense after Lila's surprise for LLL a few months ago. (Is Lila a ninja or what?) I might have listened to Yo La Tengo flicking around on Sirius. That sort of stuff.
I prefer Medicine Show but The Days Of .. is just a classic album. Most people will probably point you there.
GL is right - most people will point you to Days of Wine and Roses.
Because it is a superior album.
I won't argue that at all. When I was in my teens, my dad used to own a bunch of real estate that he rented out. One house he rented out to a bunch of college kids who trashed the place and never paid rent. They eventually got evicted. I always helped him clean up the mess afterwords and this house, one of the kids was an avid record collector. I didn't know what all he had in his collection till much later on but Medicine Show was my introduction to Wynn & Company. I think that's why it holds a special place in my heart.Days Of Wine & Roses is a better album, but I love the grittiness of MS.
I've never seen Ribot live, so that's a big selling point for me. And I've only ever seen Nels play with Wilco.
I've seen him a few times, most recently a few years ago with Ceramic Dog at ATP in NJ. I saw him at Bonnaroo (of all places) in 2004 with Los Cubanos Postizos and was blown away. He was the first act on the Which that I ever saw. Kinda surreal, honestly. He's amazing live but I bet you could have guessed that.
Okay, so I spent last night doing the math and if tickets can hold out till Tuesday, I'll make a decision. I noticed they had buses from NYC to Mass Moca. That's what we are gonna do. The wife has decided that if I do this, she's in.

On Friday June 21, opening night at Solid Sound Festival, Wilco will perform the first-ever (& maybe last?) live set comprised 100% of fan requests. We'll take submissions ahead of time, choose 50, the band will learn 'em and then pick randomly from those live from the stage that night. As a bonus they'll do some in real time submitted via Twitter & to top it off, a bit of "Stump the Band" w/ John Hodgman standing in for the late great Johnny Carson, giving those in the audience a chance to request songs live. It'll be a blast. Who's coming?
I'm looking to unload my Sunday pass. If anyone was thinking of going, I'm only looking for $50, face value is $65. If this isn't appropriate mods, delete this, sorry.
Have a blast, everyone who's off to this this weekend.
This is the first one of these that I've missed, and I'm almost as upset over that as I am over missing Roo (especially after seeing the schedule). Just a seriously beautiful festival all around. Thankfully I caught two incredible Wilco shows earlier in the year to tide me over... but still!
Also, make sure to check out the special installations and workshops, and get in line early for the Hunter Center.

We'll take lots of pics for you Sleepy... This is our first SS. Leaving in about 10 minoots.
Coming home from Roo I was SOOOOO close to going to this last minute, but decided against it. I haven't worked my second job (aka my spending money) in over two weeks and I have two festivals in July to prepare for... but really I was thiiiisssssss close.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
