Trent Reznor said in the Reddit chat he did last week with fans that he was starting rehearsals for TWO bands (How To Destroy Angels and NIN). He then went on to say he was working with Rob Sheridan, his longtime live production partner on new staging/production for 2013. If NIN could pull off something on par with their Lights In The Sky tour Bonnaroo would be in for a real treat. Where would NIN be billed on a Roo lineup, higher because it'd be, probably, one of their first shows back?
I don't see it happening, but if it did, you bet your ass I'd be back on the farm.
I really don't know how to go about predicting lineup placement at Roo, anymore, but I'd imagine top 5. A late night What would be best case scenario, but anything that gets NIN away from that damned Which Stage. I think that NIN toured so much between 05 and 09 that by the end their draw may have waned a bit... I think a return tour could be a bigger draw and success than a "wave goodbye" tour. But I really don't know, honestly...

He never mentioned what 2 bands he was rehearsing for. Just because we all want it to be NIN doesnt mean it is. With that said, I want NIN LN SOOOOOOO MUCH
And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know you realize that life goes fast - It's hard to make the good things last-you realize the sun doesn't go down - It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round
Lights in the Sky stands as one of the peak live music experiences of my life, and the best light/stage/visual show I have ever seen. I'll go see NIN in any capacity.
If NIN was a Which LN in 2009, what exactly has happened in 3 years that would put them on the What Stage?
From what I remember hearing they actually requested to play LN and were therefore stuck with Which or a Tent, which would have been impossible. At the time NIN was touring with no production at all, I remember Trent saying something like we have 100 gallons of dry ice and some bright white lights so we'll be able to play different sets each night and not have to worry about production, which is what they did.

He's mentioned in a couple of other places that he is working on new NIN material and a tour.
Turtles are, actually quite sexy, if you think about it. I’m getting an erection just thinking about turtles. No, not a stripper named turtles, that’s not funny. Actual turtles.

The last show thing was kind of shitty of him to do. However once he announced the other tour dates, he left it open by saying that they weren't breaking up, he was just putting the project down for a while and focusing on other things.
Even though Roo 09 wasn't his last show in the states, they still performed like it was. That more than makes up for it, plus I'd love to see NIN as much as possible, so it really doesn't bother me and shouldn't be surprising to anyone else.

NIN would be amazing! Although my love for them peaked with Downward Spiral, from what I've heard about their live shows I would be ecstatic to see them.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go on an overnight drunk, and in 10 days I'm going to set out to find the shark that ate my friend and destroy it. Anyone who wants to tag along is more than welcome.
Why did he bother saying it was his last show in 09, only to announce more shows a week later, and now possibly a new album a couple years later.
I'm not complaining, but Reznor is kinda Brett Favre-ing us all.
That said, I wouldn't consider myself a fan, but that show in 09 was quacking awesome!
I think you're misremembering here -- Bonnaroo was the last date of their headlining US tour -- then they hit europe, but I don't really include the US Wave Goodbye dates in August/September to be part of that since they were almost all at tiny venues and impossible to get tickets to

seconding this. had floor tickets for the St Louis show. absolutely lost it when they dropped Reptile in the encore
I loved LITS for the presentation, obviously, and it had a great setlist... the Ghosts sections were brilliant, it was nice to get so many Year Zero tracks, it was my favorite concert ever, until about 8 or 9 months later...
The two shows I saw on the Wave Goodbye tour had excellent setlists that were really great for the hardcore fan who had seen them multiple times over the prior few years. Atlanta was great, but Bonnaroo was unreal... my favorite place at the time with my favorite band at the time, playing their (to date) last show in front of a crowd that size in the states... that was by far my favorite of the 4 times I've seen NIN.
I also saw the With Teeth tour, it was a great stage/light/video setup as well... if you're a fan I highly recommend the Beside You In Time DVD or Blu Ray. Some of the With Teeth songs aren't among the best, but it's still a great show.
With the direction his work has taken recently with the soundtracks and the How To Destroy Angels thing... I'd just like to see a Trent Reznor tour, where he plays it a lineup not unlike that of the last NIN tours but with maybe Ross and his wife, as well.
I feel like I am the only person who likes With Teeth. Only bad songs on it are Sunspots and the Collector
His worst album to date
Granted there are a couple bad songs on the record, namely "The Collector" and "Getting Smaller", I enjoy the shit out of "The Line Begins To Blur". Dave Grohl's drumming on that track is HUGE, I also think "Right Where It Belongs" might be one of the best songs he's ever written.
Found a couple high quality vids on YouTube from the With Teeth/Lights In The Sky/Wave Goodbye tour...I would love to see a production like this on the farm...
This one has only been performed like 6 times in almost 20 years.
I would almost kill to see Ruiner in concert... same goes for Last and The Great Below... I've seen pretty much all of my other favorites in concert.
He did Heresy for us at the Atlanta Wave Goodbye show... but the highlight of that concert was Saul Williams coming out for Survivalism and Banged And Blown Through.
And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know you realize that life goes fast - It's hard to make the good things last-you realize the sun doesn't go down - It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round
So what's everyone's favorite NIN album? I find this topic has even more disparate answers than the Radiohead equivalent.
Mine is probably the generic answer: TDS. I know it is the most popular by sales but as the most popular (only popular?) industrial album of all time it's hard to deny its greatness.
