Does anyone here think posting "fake" lineup posters negatively effect the conversation on these boards? I'm not talking about poorly designed, unrealistic, random lineups that are a waste of time, but something made with purpose and keeps in mind reported rumors?
I'd like to hear what people think.
Posting a fake lineup with the intent of tricking people is not helpful. I told you to stop posting the link to a fake lineup because you signed up and your only posts were a smiley face and a fake lineup poster. You weren't trying to help conversation or make this community better. You were trying to fool people into believing it was real. Next time make sure you get the dates right and post it in the "Fake Lineup Poster" thread.
LOL do you really have any right to be high and holy on this issue mister best fake poster 3 years running?

Difference is I designed it for someone else and they did what they wanted with it. I didn't make a fake account and post a link just to trick people. When it made its way here I always pointed out it's 100% fake without revealing that I definitely made it.
If this was a regular poster like you or something it'd be a different situation. People who sign up around lineup time to mess with others isn't as fun. Also, this guy was told a few times to stop doing it and he kept doing it which is why I responded the way I did. There were things going on behind the scenes you aren't aware of.

Here you go Jugs, I have a serious answer for you, but I am not nearly as die hard as some of these others. I collected some inheritance from parents passing and I am using that money to quit working my shit job (stealership technician) to pursue a new career path as an engineer. So, now I'm like 30 and going to school. Obviously as an engineering student I do not have time for another full time job so I now have a low-overhead side business (shadetree auto shop, flip cars) to help pay some of the bills and go on the road and go to shows. I'm not married (anymore) and have no kids and no 401K. Going to festivals and shows is what gets me up every morning so if I didn't do it I would be MORE irresponsible and worthless. I'm not a degenerate or a drug dealer and I always promote positive vibes but for many people my life's path is often referred to as a waste of potential and dead-ended. For me, being secure financially or socially is LESS important than feeling secure spiritually and emotionally. My attitude would surely be different if I was very destitute or ill. But to be honest, I'm not genetically predisposed to having a long life and I've spent too much of it watching it go by from the outside that I cannot justify letting these experiences happen without me. I may not have much of a future, but I definitely desire to have a beautiful past.
Oh and if the shows are local and < $30 for a ticket its pretty easy for me to justify going to each one that looks good. It costs less than a night of drinking these days so now that I'm 30 I just go to the show and don't drink - let the music lift me. If I can't enjoy it sober I will stay home. Plus, I can dance all stupid without alcohol

Man, I'm glad I'm not the only one who wonders about this stuff. Met someone this summer who had 26 festivals lined up throughout the year. 26!!!
I am a fresh college graduate as of April of this year, and managed to hit up Roo and All Good this summer with the money I had and a very flexible part-time job. I want to hit up both of those again next summer, in addition to 1 or 2 more, but I'm worried about where I'll be next summer job-wise and whether I'll be able to get the time off/have the funds.
I graduated with a BS in psychology and mathematics and originally planned on pursuing my Ph.D in clinical psychology, but honestly, although I have the intellectual curiosity for that level of higher education, I'm too much of a carefree (careless?) hippie to go down a route that requires such extreme motivation and dedication.
So now I'm just floating around, trying to think of a career path relevant to my majors that I won't hate, that will still allow me to enjoy my #1 passion in life, which is music. I never want to go a single year without going to a music festival. Though I'd love to go to multiple, it doesn't have to be a boatload, just at least one or two a year, and a lot of individual concerts to fill in the voids. I know I'm going to go back to school at some point, at least to get a Master's in something, because I can't do jacksh*t with what I have right now...that's going to be a hefty block of time and money in itself, but I'm determined to still live the life I want to the greatest extent possible. (Anyone with grad school experience want to offer some insight on what summers are like for grad students?)
Like others who have posted here, I absolutely don't care about material luxuries. I don't need a nice big living space, or a snazzy car, or fancy technological knick knacks, or new clothes every month. I'm all about spending my money on experiences. But even then, it seems hard to strike a balance between having time or having money. It often seems like you must pick one over the other.
Hoping I'll pick up some inspiration on this thread...

Last year I went to 3 festivals, Roo, Lolla, and Forecastle, the most I've done in one year. This year just Roo and Forecastle. I live in Indy though, so Forecastle and Lolla are easy weekend trip that don't require much PTO. Plus, I stayed with friends in Chicago and my partner works for Starwood hotels, so I got a $49/night rate at the Sheraton in Louisville for FC.
I am a pharmacist that has a pretty strange schedule, days, evenings, weekends, etc. So sometimes I can save PTO by trading shifts with people or by traveling the week after I work a weekend, since I get time off after that weekend. My favorite way of saving PTO though it by working night shift if its available. Its a 7 on/7 off system. I once went to Italy for 10 days, took 13 days total off of work for the trip, and only needed to take 3 vacation days. I also went to San Fran for 5 days and took zero vacation days, just by working 5 nights. Point is, some people don't work the typical 8-5 shifts, so it may be easier to get a few days off here or there.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
This is a great question. I am lucky enough to publish a newspaper where I can get free entry to most festivals nowadays. But even with that, it's still very costly. I've been to 24 fests, but the only ones I attend each year are Bonnaroo, Hangout and Mountain Oasis (formerly Moog). I see myself attending these three as long as I live in the southeast. I pick up bartending gigs when I need a little extra money for the condo (Hangout) or camping supplies (Roo) and for every other festival I've attended I've stayed with friends or gotten a gaggle of folks to come with to split the costs. One of the reasons I like Hangout so much is that if you split a beachfront condo between eight people, it's only about 250 bucks a person for a whole week, and it used to be cheaper than that before they started selling out the fest. So we all go Wed to Wed and make a vacation out of it. So even though it's 8.5 hours away, it's still very affordable. My girlfriend has a 9-5 but she's able to just take Friday and Monday off for closer festivals. We've never flown to a fest, and that is what really blows my mind for folks who attend so many fests because most of the time fests aren't near an airport too, which involves a rental car. There are a few that I see myself going to though, and Outside Lands is at the top of the list. I always love their lineups. Of course, I'd like to hit Coachella and I'd love to hit some big European fests as well, but I haven't been able to scratch those yet.
You'd be surprised how cheap renting a car is. I flew into San Diego last year for Coachella and rented a big jeep SUV for $15/day.
You don't say? I guess you don't really have to worry about unlimited mileage when you're parking for the weekend. It's funny, I was actually thinking about you when I wrote about folks who went to more fests than I do. You go to everything, right?
EDIT: So with flight, car and whatever else minus tix, how much was your chella trip...from Nashville, I assume, which is where I would likely fly out of as well. Also, how long did you wait to book your flight?

I got lucky, I set a flight alarm on Kayak.com and got RT from Nashville to San Diego for $300. I honestly dont remember when I purchased. I think around December? I flew in Thur and flew out Tues so I booked a hotel in San Diego Thur night and Mon night. Found it on booking.com for $50/night. Wasnt a nasty hotel at all either, close to the beach and Sea World. And as far as camping supplies, I stopped by WalMart on my way to Coachella and got a tent, EZUP, Cooler, and everything else I needed for camping, then took it back when I drove back to San Diego. Now some might think this is shady, but whatever, its WalMart, fuck em. So no costs there.
Flight - $300 Car - $100 after taxes/fees Hotel 2nights - $100 Food/Beer/Liquor for camping - $100 Gas - $50

Yeah, I've plunked over 200 on a car rental for the Thurs-Tues of a Roo weekend. Not pretty.
When I was looking to go to San Antonio early this year, I found out the car rentals were a whole lot cheaper away from the airport than from it. By hopping a cab and going a mile or so away, the price of a rental dropped nearly half.
For MOEMS (before I scrapped the whole trip), I had found an Enterprise deal at a location near downtown Charlotte - the cab fares to and from the rental office from CLT (estimated 45 round trip) were probably gonna be higher than the rental itself (37).
You'd be surprised how cheap renting a car is. I flew into San Diego last year for Coachella and rented a big jeep SUV for $15/day.
That's crazy! In 2011 I rented an SUV to go to Roo and it was like 65/day.
Hell we rented locally two weeks ago and paid $35 for a crappy sedan.
I think a lot of things about going to shows is your starting location as well. We're in a crappy place for most fests and shows because we're several hours away (at least) from everything. I get seriously jealous of folks who live in places like Atlanta....
