Honestly not trying to be a d*ck, but I don't know why you felt the need to make a thread for this. The Wikipedia page says it all. He's an R&B star from the late 90s/early 2000s that people like a lot. Like an artsier R. Kelly or a Frank Ocean before Frank Ocean. What are you confused about?

I understand that frustration. I just don't think we need a separate thread for surfbum to "figure out" who D'Angelo is when all he has to do is google him to get the basic gist of it. If this was in, say, a "D'Angelo at Bonnaroo 2013" thread, that'd make more sense as a separate thread. Not trying to be difficult at all.

EDIT: Basically, I guess I'm just suggesting that surfbum change this to a more general D'Angelo thread. That'd be more practical and useful as a thread.

Alright...sorry I brought it up; wasn't trying to be divisive or difficult, just thought this was a weird thing to have its very own thread.

We have threads talking about Juggs' penchant for liking animal-related band names, multiple threads about artists we know won't be playing at Roo (in the "2013!!" variety, no less), we have games and nonsense and a thread to post anything you want as it randomly pops into your head.

I don't think you're inferior, surfbum. And I definitely don't think you're inferior for not knowing who D'Angelo is. That's not what I was trying to say. Shouldn't have brought it up, obviously. Start with Voodoo, that's his classic album.

Dude, just get Voodoo and listen to it when you can give it your full attention. If you like that, get Brown Sugar. That is 95% of his catalog right there.

And I don't know how you walked away from that superjam. As soon as they played Zeppelin, I knew I was hooked for the whole show.

Honestly, I don't know much of him beyond that video that Bandeto posted, but I'll be damned if that video isn't seared into my brain forever.

And there are solid rumors that the new D'angelo album will finally be completed this year. Getting him out of his reclusiveness to actually tour last year was a big step

I do have to admit that I was completely wasted at that show, which is probably why I walked away. I kind of remember saying "I saw the roots earlier, so I'm gonna go head over to Which" or some drunk stupidity like that. Also, seeing how excited the group of people were who danced by me I guess I thought "Welp, I dunno who this is so I'm gonna go see someone who I do". Idk. Bad decisions happen when I'm drunk. Truth.

FTR, I was at punch brothers, roots, dispatch and RHCP, then superjam and Skrillex and I only remember flashes of RHCP, superjam and Skrillex. And not much until I woke up the next day, but I was told I had a great time.
