Man this whole thing is so dumb. The Black keys think they're so much quacking better than all these other mainstream acts and they really aren't. This summers breeze shouldn't of started this in the first place, and making fun of 13 year old girls over the internet for liking a pop star is a low point in anyone's life. He's a loser.
Do you have the reading comprehension skills of an oil drum, or something? Carney made a comment about Bieber not being deserving of a Grammy nomination (which he didn't get). Is this a fair criticism? Yes, it is fair, since it's true he didn't get a nomination. It is fair to say a kid who sings and dances and outsells historically relevant and important artists on an exponential scale is a product of the hype machine and undeserving of awards for truly exceptional music. He did not "start" anything. He was being interviewed when the interviewer asked about poor, poor, wittle Bieber. Carney gave a ".....seriously?" look, then said what he said. Biber, being the humanitarian leader that he is, said Carney should be "slapped around." Never mind the fact that Carney is a casual 6'5" and the visual of him backhanding Bieber's midget self from across a room would break the hilarity scale, Bieber's act of siccing his minions on Carney was just pathetically immature and showed Carney was right in everythign he said.
And I realize the Grammy's are a joke in their own right, but that's besides the point.
As ITM already asked, what other mainstream acts do they think they're "so much f*cking better" than? He (it's the drummer Patrick, btw, Dan Auerbach wasn't involved in any of these instances) once called Gaga "Madonna" on twitter....not sure that really counts, though.
Also, it's "shouldn't have," not "shouldn't of" (pet peeve of mine).
You actually sound worse than some 13 yr old butt-hurt Bieber fan.
The part about Carney being 6'5" and slapping Biebs around (and calling a teenager a midget) was embarrassing.
In my opinion, this thread is unreadable and you're all f*cking idiots.
you, sir, are entitled to your opinion.
i'm entitled to tell you to go Quack yourself.
see how much more fun this is when we accept each other for what we are and have a frank (hee) and honest discussion about the virtues of music festivals in which we may or may not have been in attendance?
hugs.
You have only been on here a month? It seems like so much longer.

I bet your dad could beat up his dad too.
Get over it.
Aww, you're cute.
Do I sound worse than Bieber fans? I am recounting a situation that someone else was inaccurate in retelling. And since I didn't tell any of you to kill yourselves, get hit by a bus, or something along those lines I am most certainly not worse than some 13 year old butthurt Bieber fan (since that's what they sent by the thousand towards Carney).
Did I say slap Biebs around? No, I said backhand. As in the act a person does towards an annoying gnat. But yeah, you can pretend me saying the mental image of a 6'5" adult backhanding an annoying 5'6" adult (he's 18, he's an adult, he can buy lottery tickets and everything!) is funny to me, sorry if that ruins your evening.
I called Bieber a midget because he's shorter than I am and I take every advantage to make fun of the 5 people on Earth shorter than I am.
Dad comments? Get over what? Are you as dense as the guy you're defending?
You're on a musically-themed discussion board, fighting the Bieber battle is a losing one, friend. Maybe don't take things so seriously? Carney was honest, Biebs cried like a petulant child, his army attacked and Carney pranked them. OH, THE HORROR!!
Yeah, that's the whole point. They SELL what they have created, that's what it means to be a professional musician. If that's your only source of income, and you spend years crafting music that you are proud of, and then some jerkstore uses it to sell some Hyundais without your permission, you are well within your rights to sue their ass AND their balls.
I love the opinion that it's wrong to sell your music to be used in advertisements. If you don't do it, they're just going to pay some weenie 20% what they would have paid you to make some sh*tty knock-off version of your song, a-la White Stripes.

So what? That's an illogical response. What they own is what they own.
y'all mutherquackers make the hoppies that went corporate in the 80's look like hippies that didn't go corporate in the 80's.
That response is very similar to "whatever" and therefore falls into the "hands-in-the-air whatever" response category, which we all know whether on the internet or real life, means a loss. Therefore I win. I'm done here.

What does it matter if someone sells out or not? I thought Metallica were tools when they were freaking about their music being stolen. Doesmt mean I don't jam to master of puppets when it comes on the radio. Ted Nuggent is a moronic idiot who wants to commit treason, but I still like stranglehold.
Not everyone is going to like the same music. Doesn't mean they are any less if a music lover just because they don't like the same music as you. This ain't a "can't be a man cause he doesn't smoke the same cigarettes as me".

lol @ the black keys taking years to craft the music they sell to commercials.
they kicked out those last two albums in weeks, tops.
it's generally accepted that musicians like modest mouse selling gravity tides everything to toyota or who the fuck ever is a band trying to make it. it was their first major label release and it didn't do that well, sales wise. obviously amazing album.
a band like the black keys doing the same in 2013 is not equal. they sell out arenas, headline festivals. they don't need the moneym, it's a marketing strategy. people hear those songs everywhere and they become ingrained in our culture, similarly to the way we associate clydesdales with budweiseer.
similar to how the daily show 'covers' back in black during lewis black's segment of the same name, they don't play the same notes and odn't have to pay royalties.
this is what the black keys are suing for. they want their music to be well known but don't want people doing the things people do to get around paying them. they don't need to be paid, they're being dicks just for the sake of it, which is basically what was being posted about by other people above me, which is why i brought it up.

it is not akin to saying whatever, i'm saying that you're all sellouts, just like the black keys.

If someone stole $100 from you, would you want it back?

i never said one had to stop enjoying an artists music because one thought that band sold out. i happen to think the black keys sold out in a way that made their music worse.
metallica, and lars specifically, were dicks about that shit. it caused some people to lose respect for them/him.
i don't think it's a stretch to think that losing respect for someone would cause you to hear their music from a different perspective, thus changing what they think of the artist.

if i was a fucking millionaiire i'd put a lot less effort in getting it back than i would if i needed a hundred dollars to fund my meth addiction so i could make amazing records.

The "years" I was referring to are the years the Black Keys spent getting to the point where they are now.
Sound-alikes are even worse than using the real song without authorization. To liken it to The Daily Show using a soundalike of Back in Black is a stretch.
I don't give a f*ck how much money they have. I'm not trying to be a heady vibez hippie, I believe that people should get paid for their efforts. That means paying The Black Keys for their music, instead of ripping it off and putting a fake version in your ad.

i cna appreciate what you're saying, but my post right above yours is my point.
it's like google paying a team of lawyers and accountants millions and millions of dollars a year to get their corporate tax rate down to 3%. yeah, it's legal, but they spend more money in accounting than they would if they just paid the taxes.

Okay, if you were a millionaire music artist, would you try to get a million dollars back?

They are stopping people from stealing. I bet this is the worst part of the business for them. The stealing is a slippery slope; if they don't litigate right away, other will be more brazen about stealing from them. It's less greed and more protecting their property.
I don't understand all the Black Keys hate. I think tweeting links to DEVO songs as Beiber is brilliant. I wish I would have thought of it. Sure its low-hanging fruit, but still hilarious.

Ya, this ^ isn't helping.
Maybe the dude signed your 'Keys poster at some Make-a-Wish event, and if so I'm sorry... But you forreal sound butt-hurt.
New topic (neither BK or Bieber are playing Roo '13).
