Lame. I like paying up-front for things I know I'll keep/use for a while. I hate monthly fees because I tend to forget about them and then notice money out of my account. I'll probably sign up at some point.
One thing you can do with spotify that I've done is get a prepaid visa card from Walmart with X amount of money for X amount of months.
This may just work for me. Didn't even think of this. Awesome, thanks
Man, Canada needs spotify! Last year I just downloaded torrents, but a lot of those torrent sites are now limited with lesser known artists, or maybe I'm just doing it wrong. Just seems like there's too much of a crack down to be troubled with that shit. Besides that, my computer crashed recently, and my gfs computer is a junker that can't handle bit lord for what ever reason. I've probably spent 300-400$ on iTunes in the past few days, which if fine, but I could really save a lot of money if I had access to spotify.

Spotify is totally worth the 10 dollars a month you can still pay for your music and support the artists without having to pay out the ass on itunes thats how i see it. I mean 10$ a month is worth it if you buy atleast 1 album a month off itunes.

I am a huge fan of Spotify, and have been a premium subscriber for over a year. But don't kid yourself, at best you are not stealing from artists, which is very good, but Spotify doesn't offer much support to the artists. Its really just pennies for tens of thousands of plays. So when I really find I care about an album, I buy the CD or vinyl. This works for me since I prefer lossless FLAC (or listening to the CD, yes, in a CD player, or vinyl) for when I'm doing serious listening.
But Spotify Premium is amazing. I love being able to read about an artist here, or hear about them from a friend, then be listening to that artist in seconds. Even better I keep dozens of albums downloaded to my phone so I can listen in my car. For me its the best thing that's happened to music since the iPod.
And SWIM hasn't illegally downloaded an album since Spotify came along, which is good because SWIM used to feel pretty guilty about that.
I'd love to listed to some of these playlists but I'm having issues with Spotify. I downloaded the app on my iPhone and signed in with Facebook, but when I click on your playlists, it says I have to be a premium user to listen to playlists. I can't find anywhere on the app to upgrade to premium though. I went to the spotify website and clicked on upgrade, and it took me to the app store and pulled up the spotify app that I just downloaded. I went back to the spotify website and saw where the fine print says if you do not cancel your free trial, they will charge the credit card you used to sign up. But I didn't have to use a credit card to sign up. I'm confused! It also says the charge is $9.99 a month. Do you guys really pay $10 a month for this? Is it worth it?
Best $10 I spend every month. You have to have a premium account in order to use the phone app. You also can do off-line streaming, and of course no ads with unlimited playback a month.

The reason artists dont make shiz off of subscription sites like Spotify is because of the greedy labels, not because of Spotify/Rdio, etc. The subscription sites all pay the proper amounts in royalties, but then the labels turn around and pay out their artists pennies.

this. it's basically $10/month for all of the music you want, when you want it, wherever you want it. I use the desktop version at work, but I don't have a smartphone and have XM in my car...I would totally pay the $10/month if I had a smartphone and would cancel my XM service...btw, these playlists are great! Makes the work day go by alot faster!

You can pay an annual subscription. There should be an option when you sign up. Just google "spotify annual subscription" and there is stuff about it. I love Spotify. I realize that the day it goes away, I will have spent a lot of money on music I don't get to keep. But right now, it is the love of my life.

Add me to the list of Spotify faithfuls. I don't know how I would get through a work week without Spotify on my phone. As Phi said, it's the best $10 I spend every month. The downloading a playlist feature is unreal, and makes it worth it by itself, let alone everything else.

I thought there was an option to pay for the year. I will check on that when I get home. It is worth it if you are on the road with your phone. I just love that it is just streaming and doesn't take up space on the phone!
I made a Spotify playlist of the Hip Hop and R&B acts coming to the Roo this year for my ride back up to school yesterday, so I figured I would share it if anyone is interested. Should be a good listen for someone not acquainted and for fans like myself. It's 125 songs but I made sure it all flowed well, so just click a song and let it ride.
Includes: -R. Kelly -Wu-Tang Clan -Kendrick Lamar -Nas -Macklemore -A$AP Rocky -Earl Sweatshirt -Big K.R.I.T. -Killer Mike -Action Bronson - The XX (Just for the intro)

I made a playlist that has only cafe artists on it. Over half of them had music on Spotify, so it's fairly complete. It's all in alphabetical order, except that Peanut Butter Lovesicle is at the top (I was listening to them when I had the idea). It's usually just the artist's newest album/EP, but sometimes it's their "Top Tracks" on Spotify. That part is random, more or less. Anyway, it's a cool list of some up-and-coming bands. Here ya go:
Love this thread, btw. I'd love to see it get enough use to get stickied, or at least to see it near the top more often.
Is anyone making a playlist using mp3/mp4, not spotify?? I want to be able to listen to it on the farm as well on an iPod or CD, without draining my cell phone battery... Any tips?
