I've been thinking about bringing a small folding step-stool with me so I can use it to stand on to actually be able to see the bands when I'm in a crowd. I'm 5 feet tall and it really sucks when you want to actually see the show.
I've had a few nice people in front of me at shows that have stood where I can see between them, but inevitably, some tall douchebag comes pushing through the crowd and stands directly in front of me.
I figure if I have a stool, I can see what's going on when I want to stare at the stage, then fold it up when I want to dance. The one I have is about 6", so I think it'd make me about the size of a normal person. I wonder, though, if it would upset people... or if they'd even let me bring it in.

I think it's a good idea. I've suggested it to my height-challenged gf but she always just rolls her eyes at me. As long as you aren't giving yourself a ridiculous height advantage I don't see the harm.
Great idea! I wish I had this a few years ago when of Montreal played roo. Even moved to the back and still couldn't see anything. It was just a sea of tall people
If I might offer some advice here, maybe try to stand directly in front of the soundboard when you use it? It seems like if you grab a bad spot you might continually get knocked off. If you're in front of the soundboard with your elbow on the rail no one will mess with you.

That's the kind I have
Love the soundboard idea! I've always thought being near the soundboard is the best spot to be anyway

I keep this one in my backpack for my wife at festivals.
And honestly, I wouldnt worry about blocking anyone's view. If its only 6" you will be fine... Its not like its going to suddenly make you taller than every guy around you.
My wife stands on her's directly in front of me... Im 6'4" and she's 5'5" so she is still shorter than me. If anyone complains, tell them to buy their own for next year!
And I dont think you'll have an issue with people knocking you off (unless youre trying to get hella close). Theyre pretty sturdy.
They also make a great little table for inbetween shows or when youre just chilling on a blanket in the back.
I dont know why more short-folk dont have these. My friend actually brings a stool that doesnt even fold down flat, in his backpack for his fiance. It looks like he's got a basketball in his backpack. Mine folds down to about the size of a smallish laptop.

During Eminem that one year, there were randomly two brown metal folding chairs right in front of me. There was this real short girl, like 4'11'', who stood on it the whole show. I stepped up one time to check the view and it was so cool. Just a sea of people.
I've been meaning to update this. So I took my stool this year and it was AMAZING. I actually SAW the shows instead of just hearing the muffled sounds that I usually hear at a show. I was aware of where I put it so I didn't block people, and checked often with those behind me to see if I was in their way. There were a few times I wanted to dance, and there was a short gal near me who I would let use the stool. They were all very excited to see the show too
There was only one time I had to get off the stool and get out of the crowd and that was at Matt & Kim. We had a great spot under the tent, but the crowd starting going crazy and M&K just amped them up more, and it just got packed. I made the decision to jump off the stool and get out from under the tent... just in time for Kim to tell everyone to start crowd surfing. I had to laugh because when I busted out of the crowd, there were a couple gals my height standing there and they looked at me and said, "Did you almost die in there, too?" haha
I only had one issue with a guy being a jerk about me having a stool, but he was next to me and I wasn't blocking him, so I wasn't sure what his deal was. All in all, I'll never go to another show without it!
I took my stool but ended up leaving it at camp. I wish it was a bit smaller and lighter to be able to fit easily in my Camelbak Daystar backpack...but didn't want to deal with lugging it around all day and night. Didn't seem practical...for me, at least.

What kind did you have? I have a mesh part on my camelbak and I ended up folding my stool up and clipping it on the camelbak and it thankfully wasn't too bad to carry around.

I love this idea. My sister and I are both 5'4 though. There were a ton of shows where we just didn't see much of anything besides the back of peoples heads and it was really annoying when almost every show, some tall guy pushed his way to stand directly in front of us. 5'4 isn't too incredibly short so I don't know if it would make us seem like giants. Might get one anyway and try it out. I don't want to be somebody elses pain in the butt. The back of my head isn't that pretty!

I think it's all in where you place it. In front of the soundboard is a great suggestion, though not always feasible to get to. I just went to wherever I wanted to be and set it up. I'd stand on it before the show for a little bit so those around me were aware of my intentions. Really had no issues, except for one guy who I wasn't even blocking. I think he was just drunk and jealous lol

I'm 4'11 and I've definitely considered this as an option. But I think realistically I couldn't do it.
I'm not meant to be that far from the ground. It's like anytime I use a step ladder my body decides it misses the earth and dramatically throws itself on the ground. I'm not graceful. You'd think with the low center of gravity I would be fine...nope I would either make friends real fast by falling on my neighbors or they would pick me up with my little stool and send me away.
Plus, I would always feel guilty, like, I would know that somewhere in the sea of people behind me there is one person who can only see my head and I am fairly certain the back of my head is not that thrilling.
Maybe I will run into one of you guys with a snazzy step stool and I can see what it would be like to be average height for five seconds!

If we find each other, I'm happy to let you test it out.
