Did anyone catch his performance on Letterman? DAMN, he's got himself one TIGHT band!
I've got a hazy memory, but I'm pretty sure last time I saw him it was just a DJ or two and a hype man. Now he's rollin' with two keyboard players, a drummer, guitarist, sick bassist and a KILLER sax player! If this is his new travelin' band, this show has SOARED to the top of my can't miss list.
And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know you realize that life goes fast - It's hard to make the good things last-you realize the sun doesn't go down - It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round

Anyone know if this band plays with him regularly at shows or if they just come out for the TV appearances? And I'm still holding out hope for a LN tent but that might be too much to ask for.
Apil 25th: The Sheepdogs
May 15th: Flying Lotus
June 11th: The Postal Service
June 13-16th: Roo
August 3rd: Grove Music Festival (Phoenix, Hot Chip, Girl Talk)
I thought this was his traveling band, but according to a review of a show he played recently in NYC he just had a DJ. I hope this isn't the case for his show at roo. That might be a deal breaker for me.
Man, I was all set on skipping Kendrick this year because I saw him last year with that DJ. If he shows up with Letterman's band though that could change things entirely.
For the most part he doesn't travel with the band right now, just the DJ (which happens to be Ali his engineer). However, if it's anything like this show I'm sure people won't mind as much.
An acquaintance of mine saw Kendrick at Roseland the other night. Here are some of his notes (that don't mention band vs. DJ, but still)
-Kendrick was transcendent. Absolutely amazing energy, and you could tell that he was blown away that the crowd knew the words to every song he did (about half were from GKMC, half from Section.80)
-It's really weird to hear a half-white audience scream "Seen a light-skinned n*gga with his brains blown out" alongside the black fans
-There were a ton of guests... keep in mind this isn't Madison Square Garden. This is a tiny concert hall that maybe fits a thousand people... and it's all general admission standing room only
-Kendrick starts doing his verse from "F*ckin' Problems," then A$AP Rocky comes on stage... A$AP is loving it and bringing so much energy
-Kendrick says something along the lines of "and now how about a contemporary classic you all know." "I Get Money" beat starts playing, and f*cking 50 Cent comes on stage. Crowd goes apesh*t as they perform together
-50 starts doing another song by himself and takes all the momentum out of the crowd. No one cares about him anymore lol
-Other guests include typical Kendrick collaborators (Ab Soul, Jay Rock, etc.), as well as Master P for no reason (but he was cool anyway... he did a great backup for "m.A.A.d city")
He's going to be huge at the 'Roo, I have a feeling. I got tickets for a concert of his at a smaller venue and tickets sold out in three hours. I didn't expect him to be that popular, but I'm glad I have a ticket now!

Comparing Him to J. Cole back in '11, He is bigger than J. Cole was back then and J. Cole's tent was packed from what I remember. Kendrick Lamar should have just as big of a turn out if not bigger. I am definitely going to show up to the tent for the performance before.

The only way Kendrick is in a tent is if he is LN. No way they put him in a tent during the day.
I don't get Kendrick. I think his lyrics are kind of corny. I really enjoy rigamortis though.
How can you be a fan of Black Dynamite and not realize when Kendrick's lyrics are tongue-in-cheek? It's cool if you don't like him but his lyrics are far from corny. Especially the latter half of Good Kid/ M.A.D.D. City.

His tent was slammed this past year, LN. He'll be on Which, probably... Friday, I bet.
He is absolutely electric live. Caught him at Pitchfork last year. He just commands the stage. Regularly engages with and addresses the crowd. No bullshit hype men. And this was before good kid, m.A.A.d city, so I can't imagine how much better he's gotten. He also talked a lot about how music helped him get away from/ultimately saved him from all the violence he grew up around.
