Starting from scratch for March so that the rules are on the first page. Any discussion of your favorite albums of the month is 100% a-okay, but to actually cast your vote for your #1 album of the month, which I will keep a running tally of until the end of the month every month, please post a picture of the album cover with the album title right underneath, and perhaps a few words explaining that you're voting for this album, just like this:
Casting my vote Youth Lagoon - Wondrous Bughouse
Voting will be cut off the first Tuesday of the next month, at which point I will tally up all the votes...Here's a better explanation of it:
It should be the first Tuesday of the next month. Aka the first release date for albums of the next month. For example, albums were released on Tuesday February 26th, which only leaves two days in the month left to digest those albums. I think we should keep February voting open until Tuesday March 5th, and continue that trend for every month after. So March voting would be cut off on Tuesday April 2nd, and April voting until Tuesday May 6th, and so on.
I'll make a post that I'll keep updated with the tally for this month, just for the fun of it:
Foxygen - We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace & Magic: 5 California X - California X: 4 Local Natives - Hummingbird: 4 A$AP Rocky - LONG.LIVE.A$AP: 3 FIDLAR - FIDLAR: 3 Tomahawk - Oddfellows: 2 Follakzoid - II: 2 Blaudzun - Heavy Flowers: 2 Toro y Moi - Anything in Return: 2 Anais Mitchell & Jefferson Hamer - Child Ballads: 1 Biffy Clyro - Opposites: 1 Parquet Courts - Light Up Gold: 1
Inforoo's Co-Albums of the Month for February 2013:
Autre ne Veut made a late surge, here is the final tally:
Apparat - Krieg und Frieden (Music for Theatre): 4 Atoms for Peace - AMOK: 4 Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds - Push the Sky Away: 4 Jim James - Regions of Light and Sound of God: 3 Foals - Holy Fire: 3 Autre ne Veut - Anxiety: 3 My Bloody Valentine - m b v: 2 Frightened Rabbit - Pedestrian Verse: 1 Mount Moriah - Miracle Temple: 1 Grouper - The Man Who Died in His Boat: 1 Araabmuzik - For Professional Use Only: 1 Steven Wilson - The Raven that Refused to Sing: 1 Warm Soda - Someone for You: 1 Escondido - The Ghost of Escondido: 1
I will keep the March 2013 tally and all future monthly tallies here in the OP.

I think this might be the most diverse month of voting that we've had.
Ok, now that that has been resolved, I have a question for A$AP Rosko and Boner before I go. And don't get upset. No accusations or anything. I really want an answer.
How can you vote for best album for March on March 3rd? There is so much more to come out. How can you decide at this point that it is the best?
That's like me walking into the door of the MoMA and declaring the first picture I see on the wall the best.
Like I said, I'm not judging. You can vote when and for what you please. I just don't see how you can make a decision this soon.

I wasn't voting. I was giving an example of how to vote if I were voting for Youth Lagoon. Sorry, thought that was made clear.
March will mostly come down to Bowie and HTDA (though I MIGHT boldy, throw in a wild card vote for Biffy Clyro - just sayin').
April is seriously going to be a battle royal. New albums from Charles Bradley, Cold War Kids, The Black Angels, F'lips, Tyler the Creator, James Blake, Dawes, The Knife, The Thermals, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Junip, Phoenix, and !!! to name a few.

I know it's way too early to write off the rest of the month, and im still excited for a few of the up coming releases, but I promise you I wasn't going for dramatic effect, or seeking attention. I'm fascinated by this album, more so than I have been in a very long time. From the opening track into Mute on my first listen, I went from "what is this?" to "WHAT IS THIS!!!!" I can't really put it into words. It reminds me of the first time I listened to Sigur Ros. It just puts me in an other place.
I viewed the list of artists to release albums this month, and weighed to chances of anything else comparing to the youth lagoon album and couldn't see it. I realize there's going to be other artists I've never heard of that may blow me away, but this album has effected me in such a way I find it very unlikely that there will be a second album this month to match it. I should have waited maybe a week or so, but Im just really enthusiastic about it I guess. I stand behind my vote,
Can I make a suggestion for a cutoff on voting? I think it should be the first Tuesday of the next month. Aka the first release date for albums of the next month. Sounds good to me, I see no issue with that. I'll put it in the rules in the OP. BTW, thanks for coming up with the idea for this thread PMO, sorry the other one got so f*cked up to the point that we had to create a new one.
HTDA is way out in front for me right now, not sure even Bowie can catch it.
Isn't the hot rumor that Daft Punk is coming out on the 12th?
Alright, just in case there is any stock in that rumour, I'm willing to retract my vote. I said before that the new QOTSA album would be one of the only things that could maybe pull me off the new Youth Lagoon, and I'm pretty sure that won't happen till April or May. I didn't even consider the thought of the new Daft Punk in March. Just incase this were to happen, I'll be looking for tips for how to cover up the taste of foot.
I've pre-ordered it on iTunes, I'll have my first listen tomorrow evening. How is it? Better or worse than open your heart? I'm not overly familiar with them. But I've liked what I've heard in the past
I love it. I think it's better than Open Your Heart. It's much more fully fleshed out and integrates those really raw noisy moments from the first record into the sound. The second half is a straight up beast. Point is, Youth Lagoon can be taken down by something unexpected. Hell, you said so yourself that you were not expecting to be floored by Youth Lagoon, so that could happen again.

I will admit, casting my vote so early was a little foolish, but I've never been known for showing much self restraint when excited about something. I'll try to work on that. I fully expect that there will be some new albums that knock me off my feet. But like I said before, it's been a long time since something has made me feel the way this album makes me feel. It's a bit of an emotional awakening, or something, I can't explain it, I'm not all that good at transfering my thoughts to words at times. I guess I'd ask the question, when it comes to voting on AotM, should I be voting based on which album meant more to me personally, or which album I feel will historically be recognized as a definitive sound of the time from which it came. This one would fall under the first category.
We touched on this at the end of the year last year in regards to Frank Ocean, actually. I am in the camp of just picking the ones that mean the most to you, move you the most, the ones you just geniunely enjoy listening to the most. I feel like when you start to get involved in the "how it stands as a statement of the times" game, then it takes some of the personal connection away from the music and you're just really trying to speculate what others feel about it. Obviously it's however you want to do it though.

Well I am already feeling overwhelmed again. Don't think Bowie or HTDA will win. There are some great tracks on The Next Day, but I am not blown away by the album as a whole. It is growing on me, though. I am most interested in hearing And So I Watch You From Afar this month.
Holy shiz. Dude's playing was incredible during these sessions (lots of great Billy Cox and Buddy Miles stuff too). Just take my vote now, nothing will top this for me.
