Alright, so... I'm curious. How did you all keep yourselves fed? My husband and I figure we could budget for one vendor meal per day and then the rest of meals and snacks, we would just eat out of tent. I'd like y'alls feed back on what your favorite camping meals are? There isnt any electricity to plug in my electric griddle in and I don't know how to use a charcole grill.... I need ideas! Thanks.

I don't like cooking at camp. I stick with easy to eat snack foods, mostly. Things you can just pull out and have a go at. String cheese was my secret weapon. And when I needed some real food, Spicy Pie.

My first year we brought food and cooked at the camp. After nine Roos, though, I just bring some water, a couple of sodas and some snacks for the morning. I eat all of my meals in Centeroo. The food is good and cheap and I don't want to waste times walking to and from camp when there are things to see and hear.
one thing i took last year that i enjoyed were the plastic cups of fruit in fruit juice. sooo refreshing, and they dont get gross from the heat. of course trail mix, beef jerky, canned chicken with crackers. lots of little snack foods.

This. I bring some cereal bars and such to snack on but aside from that, I don't bring any real food with me. You can find cheaper vendor meals, and the cost is worth not having to walk all the way back to camp and potentially missing all or part of a show you want to see.
Every year I have to scale shitt back. The menus used to be absurd. Now, it's omelettes and skillet potatoes in the morning. Cheese boards with fresh fruit, Charcuterie meats and crackers in the evenings. Mini kegs in between.

Most of our camp food consists of snacks, but we always cook breakfast at camp and grab the majority of our meals in Centeroo.
Speaking of breakfast, one thing I have never shared on this board, but everytime we have camp with new people we get them hooked on...beermosas. GREAT way to start the day. Everyone thinks they sound gross at first, but then they absolutely love them. Any beer works, but to make them the true way, you gotta use Highlife, as it is the "champagne of beers"
We made jambayla last year out of the box and had it not been for them cleaning the porto jons in the middle of cooking I think we would have enjoyed it. You would need a propane stove though.
For my first year camping this year, I took a camp stove. for breakfast I cooked eggs and chorizo burritos. I took alot of granola bars and vienna sausages for snacks in Centeroo. I ate dinner in centeroo always and I had several packs of hotdogs at camp that when I was there, i cooked on the camp stove. I don thing I made any sandwiches at all.
if you are going to cook, get a good non stick skillet so you can easily wipe it out clean with a paper towell then a little soap and water to clean it. makes a world of difference.

I always made huge breakfasts. i got a coleman propane stove thing, I made eggs sausage and pancakes even bacon one morning. Also got a french press heated up water made coffee that way. Doing that was fun I even sold people a couple meals and made some beer money for the day. Additionally I'd pack bars and stuff in my bag for a snack. We were fortunate enough to be like 5 minutes away from centeroo so we would walk back around 6 and have deli sandwiches we usually made friends on the way back and gave them some of our food since we were way over stocked. I made burgers and brats one night when i wasn't too stoked on any shows going on I really only ate vendor food like 3 times over the weekend.
Although this year I'm probably going to be eating more vendor food since our group is increasing from 2 to like 8+ and i don't wanna be in charge of cooking for all those assholes haha.
to cook breakfast (eggs, potatoes, sausage) and make coffee; enough to share with neighbors since I'm going alone and I figured feeding my neighbors would be a good way to make friends. Or scare people away, idk.
I'm also planning on bringing some snacks (jerky, tuna kits, clif bars, fruit). I like to fill up at breakfast and then just snack the rest of the day. I'll probably eat a few dinners from vendors too though, since I keep hearing about all this wonderful food that they have.
Usually we stuck to fruit, Granola, Pop tarts, etc. for breakfast just for convenience purposes. We'd usually eat pb sandwiches with more fruit and granola bars for lunch too, then eat dinner in Centeroo. It's hard to plan on cooking group dinners because there's no way of knowing where you'll be camped in GA. One year we were a 10 minute walk from the gates, but another year we were 30 minutes away. If you're camped close, it's not that big of a deal, but if you're far, you're prolly not going to feel like walking an hour roundtrip to camp and back after a long day. Also, depending on how big your group is, you may have conflicting schedules on which bands you wanna see.
I was with Bogart last year, so he pretty much covered the only meal we made a camp haha. We'll have a bigger group this year, so I don't think we've completely decided yet, but I think personally I may just pre-make a few different sandwiches and pack them individually in ziplocs. Might be boring, but I ended up buying meals in Centeroo more than I initially thought I would because the walk was so far back to camp. As for snacks, beef jerky and a couple of things of trail mix was all I had. Would like to add some sort of iced coffee to my morning Rootine, along with the traditional Franzia.

You going VIP or ga? If you're alone, we'd love to share!

GA; I'm gonna join up with camp inforoo in tent only
I can put some food away the other 51 weeks of the year for sure...but i just don't seem to get hungry much.
I,like many in this thread, generally bring a metric ass load of prepackaged snacky stuff crackers jerky trail mix etc and pass around way more than I eat
The vendor food is always way better tasting than expected and its not way overpriced (as it could be). the exception being I got 2 little micro tacos from one of the food trucks last year for like 16.00...
1-1-12 Bassnectar NYE SHOW! 1-21-12 G. Love and Special Sauce 3-1-12 Radiohead 3-9-12 Experience Hendrix 5-15-12 Jack White @ The Ryman 6-7-12 Bonnaroo 6-19-12 Roger Waters presents "THE WALL" 7-7-12 Ringo Starr's 72nd Birthday Party Extravaganza at the Ryman
Thats usually how we do it. One vendor meal a day, sometimes 2 which isnt too bad because food prices are actually pretty good. And for some of the more expensive vendors they usually give you enough food for 2 people ah la the ever so delicious teriyaki bowl. As for eating at the campsite we usually bring the usuals. Hot dogs, burgers, bagels etc. We also make a stop on the way down every year to one of our favorite burrito stops and grab a few extra to enjoy on the farm. Past 2 years we've RV'd and plan to do that again this year. The fridge makes things so much easier, we go all out now. Now no Roo will be without my famous buffalo chicken dip lol
But snacking is the key. Some cliff bars, trail mix, and stuff like that are crucial to have in your bag as you head into centeroo. Gotta stay fueled for this 4 day marathon
Tuna inbags(no water or oil), crackers, nuts, trail mix. Some one smarter than me said bring cans of ravioli and spageteos and eat a can at room temp. its not cooking that is the trouble its the cleaning up. I didn't enjoy cleaning up last time especially because cooking always takes longer than you think and then so does cleaning and if you wake up late it pushes you back past the first shows. We missed the first three songs from jimmy buffet because of cleaning that year.
Just remember if you are going to cook in the morning. Go to bed early, wake up and start early. Finish early and finish cleaning by 11. You cannot leave a mess in your camp for later. It will attract bugs and birds. I do not plan on going to bed early. I do not plan on missing any shows. Therefore I don't plan on cooking. That's my 2ccents.

This is actually a problem I run into as well. The heat keeps me from wanting to eat much but if I don't get protein I turn into a bit of a bitch.
Like others I suggest snacky foods. Personally I also bring some lunch meat and bread fer mornin' or early afternoon eatin'. There's plenty of great food to be had at decent prices all over the festival.

We've usually got a couple of camp grills. Someone or another usually cooks the first meal (traditionally known as breakfast, but it's Bonnaroo. Throw out that tradition!). There's usually regional delicacies as my friends and I gather from around the country. For my part, Wisconsin bratwurst. I seem to recall fajitas one morning, but damn was I drunk at that point.

Pop tarts are fairly easy to open (even when beyond drunk or wasted) so I recommend those for sure. They make a killer snack in the middle of the night, early morning.
My advice would be to eat your one meal in Centeroo during the day. Eat breakfast at the tent. After a day of walking, listening to music, the sun beating down on you and such--eating a good breakfast will help you recover and prepare for the day. Sandwiches are pretty common and require little to no cooking (depends on what kind of sandwich you wish to make). 70-75% of the time, people overpack food. Snacks (goldfish crackers, potato chips, GORP, popcorn, granola bars) are the way to go IMO. Affordable and portable as well.
