I don't care for them either. I can appreciate their talent and their music is way better than Mumford or any of the other faux-folk bandwagoneers though. But yeah, Vampire Weekend makes my weenie soft.
Dear Diary,
Today I found out schlonginus judges how good a concert is by where his member would land on the Mohs Scale while he's viewing said concert.
I haven't seen them in concert yet. Maybe they'd get me hard live? New album is definitely better than previous ones. I'll give it that. Just not my cup of tea. And I was under the impression that inforoo was under the boner scale system for how awesome albums and live shows are: Vampire Weekend studio work ~ 0.25 / 5 boners Vampire Weekend live ~ tbd / 5 boners

The 3-4 new songs I've heard are a step up from the first two albums, but I still don't get it. I watched that Coachella stream everyone was raving about, too, and it did nothing for me.
Does the fact their show would be loaded with young, attractive women increase the boner-factor?
Yeah, but most of those boner points would go to their fans and not to them. I'm sure I'd get a boner being surrounded by young Mumford fangirls at Roo this year during their set, but I'd need to wear 7 layers of hearing protection to stay hard.
Question: Everyone puts a lot of focus on Ezra's lyrics, dissecting them and asking for the meaning behind them. But I need to know what Chris T is saying on these songs. Chris T, on "Run" you drum "Boom bap bap boom bap bap, tom-ta-ta-tom-ta-ta-tom." Is this an allusion to your childhood? Some have said it's a comment on American consumerism, but I frankly don't see it.
Love your stuff, guys. Thanks for everything.
Answer:Hi Alex512, great question. You're close. What I'm trying to communicate in "Run" is actually a continuation of my investigation of Elizabethan British economic infrastructure that I began on "Oxford Comma" on the first record. I know the subject matter is a litte arcane, but sometimes by focusing on smaller details we can actually see the bigger picture

Some other decent Questions:
Q: I've been a fan of yours for a while, but your new album is getting attention from a lot of people who had no interest in your music before. What it is about the new album that gives it such a different feel from Contra and your debut?
A: that's a good question. i mean...it has less references to horchata. some people don't like horchata, they find it too sweet EK
Q: Influences behind Finger Back? It's such a rad song.
A: neutral milk hotel (distorted acoustic guitar), the clash (drum pattern), brenda fassie (drum pattern), bach's chorales (choir part) -RB
Q: Hey Ezra, Rostam, Chris and Chris, thanks for doing this AMA! I'm a big fan and I'll be buying your new album tomorrow, I also have some questions. 1. It's been said that Modern Vampires of the City is the final album in a sort of trilogy, starting with your self-titled debut. Do you know what direction Vampire Weekend will take after this? 2. How was working with Steve Buscemi aside from the promos you shot for Amex unstaged (they were funny by the way, but I'm interested in what working with Steve was like outside of those). 3. Are there more music videos coming? 4. What artist outside of your genre has been most influential to you? 5. What song was hardest to "transpose" into a concert setting?
A: 1. not exactly BUT WE'RE EXCITED 2. he's a brilliant guy. very funny, pleasant to be around 3. YES 4. q-tip 5. horchata took a minute EK

I still haven't really listened to it. I had the stream going on my computer at home and then had to leave for something. The vinyl should be at my house today or tomorrow and I just got the e-mail of the mp3s being put in my Amazon account. Today is the day for the full listen. Seems like they're getting a lot of attention right now. Need to catch them next time they are around (couldn't afford the recent unstaged show).
Did not think I would be saying this last week, but this may be the record of the year.
Agreed 100%.
They really seem to have the Arcade Fire career arc down. Excellent/critically acclaimed debut, very good second album that isn't as good as the first but gets them a bit more exposure, then a third album that will blow them up. I can easily see a 15 page thread here this December on whether or not they could headline Bonnaroo 2014.
I appreciate their intellectualism and appreciation for classical music and Paul Simon in every song. I also like that they come off as so elitist and Ivy League. It's just not a route many people ever think to try to go after. I know that the hip thing these days is the hipster hobo train station early 20th century suspenders thing, but I wonder if this album blows them up any larger there will be a new class of musicians who know how to sail.
I love this record. Preordered the vinyl from amazon after hearing their SNL performance. Don't have the vinyl yet but do have the amazon "autorip" mp3s.
First, Diane Young is the catchiest pop song I've heard all year. Grrrrrrr, its so catchy! Its catchy like a fresh croissant with black coffee on a beautiful morning where you eat outside and everything is amazing.
But the album has depth as well, I need to read the lyrics. Lots of cool and carefully chosen instrumentation. I am a sucker for the mellotron, or whatever this is that sounds like a mellotron, I love it.
Not to mention take a moment to step back and admire the album name and the artwork. I will admit I had very little interest in Vampire Weekend before this, I heard a couple of their songs and thought it was better then what most of "the kids" were listening to at the time (this was a few years ago). But when I saw this album cover, and heard the title "Modern Vampires of the City", even before I read any of the hype, I thought to myself "oh shiz, this is going to be really good isn't it?" its weird how sometimes you can feel the greatness of one art form (music) coming through the greatness of another art form (visual media).
I'm expecting Vampire Weekend to headline everything next year.

I had heard the song a few times cuz they released the video and the Coachella stream but it wasn't until listening to the album that I realized it was "dying young/Diane Young".
Only listened fully through a couple times so far but there are more to come. Want to really site down with all the lyrics and focus on the album.

More so then average I felt compelled to sit down with all the lyrics. Especially Worship You adds a lot more depth to that song in doing so.
I love this album, but honestly, I can't tell if I've come around on Vampire Weekend or if I just like that they sound increasingly like classic Paul Simon.
Really wish I hadn't slept on their Red Rocks show. Of Monsters and Mash are "co-headlining" and that just turned me off. It has been sold out for weeks now, so I might have to hit CL and look for something reasonable. I'd just love to hear some of these new tracks floating up into the night sky.

Oh ya man come join. Stubhub has them for 80$. We are literally getting down there around 11-noon. This show will be incredible. For me the co-headling made it that much more special. They are only doing that in like 4 stops and all 4 stops are fairly ridiculous venues like RR
