I have been asked to carry out "The Experiment" this year. I will do my best to carry it out in the same, flawless fashion as jimmyroo, or as we like to call him, Mr. Bonnaroo.
So for the people that have done it before what are the main advantages of doing group camping, besides knowing who your going to camp next to? I'm always down for trying new things and group camping seems like it'd be fun.
You're just too young to grasp how stylin' I really was. All the boys wanted to do me when I was 5. Actually the girls did too. My haircut was confusing.

Also, the folks at Bonnaroo give out, from what I understand, a 10' x 10' spot to every General Admission car for their car and tent, regardless how full the car is. Groop Camping gives out that amount of space PER PERSON (not car) in camp, so you get a TON of extra space. Pack a car, more space. For the minimum of 24 people in the group, you have allowance for 6 cars + 1 car for every 3 more people added.
Your friends can come a day late and still camp with you.
Camp can be coordinated so that cars are parked however you want, tents and EZ-UPs are laid out however you want. We always separate the hang out area from the sleeping area (not to wake people up in the morning, keep potential bugs from food away from tents).
All in addition to the above mentioned benefits.
oh also next to showers, and have groop camping bathrooms.... in this years case making everyone in groop camping stand on line there, freeing up the GA bathrooms for less lazy people who would walk around a fence.

It'll be PERFECT for you....guaranteed spot which equals less nagging.
I wandered over to the Groop Camping spot last year looking for Amy, Deto, etc one day and never found them. It's a pretty awesome spot, almost the same walk as we made last year Tejas. I'd have to get with my buddy from AZ to see if he'd be down but I'd love to switch it up this year. We shall see how this goes.

Me nagging? Never
But token this is something that I think we should explore. Especially if we could guarantee awesome neighbors like @bandeto & BlackAmy

Is this a forum for meeting up with people to form groups/find people who will watch my stuff and be in a shared space? I apologize for my ignorance, but I have tried to get a group of my friends together for the festival since 2004. Going to Bonnaroo has been a dream of mine since sophomore year of high school. I was literally promised an all expense paid trip for me and 2 friends in 2006 if I graduated high enough in my class, but my parents reneged on their promise. Once in college, none of my friends were ever as down with camping or as into music as I am. They just wanted to go to Lollapalooza and stay in hotels. Anyway, I have regretted the passing of the festival every year that I have not attended.
However, since I have started backpacking on overnights alone in the woods, I decided to fuck it and explore going solo. Is this a crazy idea? Should I just buy my own car pass and camp by it or try to join up with others for a closer tent location? I should add that I am a woman, which makes the solo idea more daunting. Any advice is appreciated.

Im also a female going solo this year so you're not alone, I'm volunteering this year though.
"Groop camping" specifically is a camping option that allows you more space for a group of 24+, I'm sure you can join a group tho.
but I'd say its a little early to make concrete plans. But once the line up comes out I think most people will have a better idea of what they're doing.
Ive never actually been to a fest alone. I've been to enough that I know what I'm doing so I'm not too nervous, and since I'm volunteering I'm not concerned about having too much alone time. It's just going to be strange bc I've never been to a fest without my boyfriend, who is now my ex-boyfriend, thus going alone.
there are a lot of great threads with lots if first timer info on here tho so you'll be fine!!!! I even think the info-rooers have a meet up every year but I'm sure some else would have more info on that.
I am up in the air about Groop camping this year, but last year it was excellent! We weren't exactly too coordinated last year with our set up, but it was a great spot (minus the ONE tree in Groop being smack dab in the middle of our section), right near food and showers, and we got much more space than GA. If I end up bringing my daughter this year I am going to go the VIP route--air conditioning goes a long way for her generation, but if the lineup isn't to her liking I will be back in Groop.
So the closer we get to roo will something get organized? Me and my friends would love to join a group, it's probably more space and more fun. It's gonna be my third roo, but some of my friends will have only their first or second, so I want them to have the full roo experience.

Once I register my group for Groop Camping (The Gretchen Ross Experiment), I will definitely need people to join us, and if you are coming with a few people in a car, even better! I will keep everyone current with updates.

Sounds awesome. How much does each car have to pay?

Groop camping is a $35 fee per person. It's best if you have people coming with you though because the parking passes needed to access the Groop Camp area are limited. They only give 1 pass per 3 people in your group.

I'm planning on bringing my son and 2 of his buddies as a high school graduation present. First time for all 4 of us. Question #1.....Am I crazy?!? Probably so, but that said, I want to make sure my kid and his friends have an amazing time. I'm worried camping in GA is just not going to be enough room. The more I read online......and I'm reading A LOT.....the more I think groop camping may be the way to go. What do you think? A mom and three 17 year olds......might you have a spot for us?

I don't think you're crazy at all. They will have a blast. We had a mom/18 year old son in our groop last year and they did fine. Other than maybe an awkward game of Cards Against Humanity one morning Keep your eyes posted on when groop goes on sale--last year was $35 per person and sol out shortly after lineup drop in Feb I think. Watch inforoo for groops that are searching for campers so you have an invitation that you can link too when you buy the groop option. 4 of you should mean that your groop leader should have no problem giving you a parking pass for your car. Have fun!
OK....so I just put it out there that I have 4 people looking to join a groop and hope to get an invite? I would imagine having a group of 4 makes us sorta desirable since that 4th person could help towards getting the groop an additional parking pass?
Well then.....I guess I'm officially fishing for a groop invitation! Preferably someone who knows what the heck they are doing since I, most certainly, do not.

"What if you have more than 24 people? Bigger party! Additional Groopies can be added easily. For every 3 additional people, you’ll get one more vehicle pass. "
Hypothetical question: Do people mind if other people ingest certain substances other than alcohol and cigarettes?
I think that hypothetically depends on whether you're willing to share hypothetical substances. Seriously though, I saw groops where everything is cool and groops where they wouldn't want you. Try private messaging groops ahead of time. Many have Facebook pages where you can definitely get a sense of their vibe.

When do groops normally start forming?
I will start setting up groop once tickets are on sale and I reserve the groop
Is there a specific forum for that or is this too early? Also, have you gone solo before? Thanks for helping me out.
I'm a woman going solo this year. And I pretty much went solo in 2012 (my first year) - I was there with my brother and we did not spend any time together other than sleeping behind the same car. It wasn't daunting, it was actually awesome. Last year I went with friends, and both years were great in their own way. With friends it's cool to be able to get nostalgic and talk about stuff that happened after the fact, but when I was on my own in '12 I was just...100% free, you know? I could be whoever, say whatever, meet whoever, and most importantly DO whatever.
It's not a bad atmosphere to be alone in AT ALL, even as a woman. The farm is amazing and I fell in love with it without any company, as I'm sure you will too.

Groop camping.... great way to meet people while going solo!
