I bought a power inverter to hook up to my car battery. I have a low wattage coffee pot that I'll bring along as well. I've heard there are places to walk to and I have even done this in the past. I just don't want to deal with it this year.
Yes, there are places that sell coffee! If they are open for breakfast, they likely have coffee. From my experience, the places around the campgrounds will just have plain coffee, but you can get it iced! The place I always go (can't remember the name of the vendor) has cream and sugar on the counter, which is sometimes out. It will cost you around $5-$6 so budget for the necessary coffee expense!

There are at least two coffee places in centeroo. One by the sonic stage and one close to the fountain. There may also be a vendor or two close to the Other Tent if memory serves me. I have also seen several people selling coffee in the campground over the years. I cannot function without coffee but have never made my own.

Yikes! 5-6 bucks for plain coffee?
Yep, this is Bonnaroo though; the price for everything is inflated. But for me, coffee is necessary so I will pay it. It's a pretty large cup though, maybe 20 ounces.

I pay 4 every morning at Starbucks for black iced coffee. Writing that down made me realize 5-6 at an event sounds like I'd be getting less boned.
On the subject of boning: in addition to the $6+ for a beverage, you'll also see tip jars o-plenty, and I wonder if this isn't a situation where the volunteers are getting boned as well. Is your average festival-goer going to be inclined to tip the barista/bartender/etc. after they've already shelled out that much for beer/coffee/lemonade/whatever?
I'd be interested to hear volunteers chip in their $.02 on this one...or in this case, their $1.75.
I dont remember paying $5-6 for a coffee in centeroo. I want to say it is more like $3-4 for a large iced coffee. Out in the Pods, it may be different, but I never thought the prices were too high.

I would not feel inclined to tip someone for pouring me a cup of coffee. If they steamed my milk and skillfully added just the ratios of syrups I would.

The one closer to the Sonic Stage was cheaper and better, imo. Plus, they had donuts.

This. I go there every morning. They have doughnuts, a few types of breakfast sandwich, and a breakfast wrap.
I really don't remember the coffee in the campground being 5-6 bucks. I remember it being pretty lousy, but not too expensive.
I know at the vendor I always went to, closest to my camp in Tent Only, coffee was $5 because I had to budget for it each day. It may be cheaper at other vendors, but I wanted her to be prespared to pay more than a dollar or two for coffee.
French Press is the best idea. I have done instant coffee by boiling water to mixed results. I have gotten amazing coffee inside centeroo (2 years back when the left side of What wasn't adjusted with porta's). for maybe 3.50? and on the campgrounds closer to 3; might be "location. location. location.)
I have not been to Roo before but this is how I make my coffee every day of my life (except my cone is plastic):
I'm planning on either bringing this and enough coffee for myself and my group, or just bringing Starbucks instant (which as far as instant goes is pretty good). This plus something to boil water, & powdered creamer & sugar, should be fine.

Just remember, many of the vendors (esp. in Centeroo/approaching Centeroo) are staffed with volunteers from the area raising money for different things. Those tips all go directly to whatever group it is (local youth sports groups, for example)
Sometimes you just end up tipping b/c you are feeling nice

Well certainly for a good cause i would throw the change in a tip jar. I didn't realize

I know I deserve the world's biggest idiot sticker on my forehead but whats the best way to boil water?
jenny You either need a propane or an electric hot plate. A lot of people here are about making their own, but I always liked that morning coffee got me up and moving for the day. Just walking in and out loosens up the muscles after the night before. I have done the food and coffee thing at the camp, and it ends up being a huge hassle, and you waste what you bring unless you have a ton of ice and sealed containers.
I prefer to just buy coffee. I was never more than a five minute walk from a cup of coffee in the morning. I don't want to have to clean anything before I go to centeroo in the morning.

Thanks I was trying to figure out if i wanted to get something for cooking and coffee making but I am definitely worried about the hassle due to my inexperience!

Don't worry about trying something out and failing at your first Roo, just don't over invest in anything that you can't use later. That's part of the fun/experience of Roo IMO -- and go with the flow, some mornings you just don't have the energy to save money and make your own food/coffee.
There was a brilliant coffee place between Centeroo and POD 2 around 2nd and 2nd last year that sold the best tasting mocha I've ever had for four bucks.

I'm volunteering at the Tollbooths (so I camp in a different location from other volunteers), any idea if this place is close to our campsite? A good mocha is worth twice that!

I'm not sure where the Tollbooth campsites are, but the place I'm talking about was in Camp Biff Tannen on 2nd Ave. (if you pull out last year's map, it's just to the right of POD 3), about ten or fifteen stalls down. I wish I remembered the name of the stall because they're probably not going to be in the same place this year. Some kind of hippie coffee.
