Just found this interesting website. makenflplayoffs.com
They give you probability of each nfl team making the playoffs based on their W-L record of their remaining games.
If the Texans go 9-0 they have a .99% chance of making the playoffs 8-1 .998% chance 7-2 .837% chance 6-3 .245% chance So not so good for my Texans.
If the Jets go 9-0 Or 8-1 they have a 100% chance of making the playoffs 7-2, 99% 6-3, 94% 5-4, 50% Flanz I don't know they Jets schedule, but you think the Jets can go 6-3 ?
I will admit that I was wrong about the Jets this year, but the Panthers will still beat them
That's turning into a very interesting game. Two very good defenses, two QBs whose play goes up and down...color me intrigued.
I can definitely see both teams going into that game with Wildcard hopes...I would NOT want to carry a football in that game.
Yeah it should be a pretty good game. I am just glad the Falcons are awful this year. If we can sweep them I like our chances at a WC. We still get to play the Bucs twice so that should be 2 wins as well. We blew the Seahawks game when DeAngelo fumbled on the 8 yard line with like 3 minutes left and we should have won against the Bills as well. We let EJ go down the field in less than 2 minutes and score a TD as time expired. If we finish games we will be really good. I think we have led at halftime in every game this year.
Belichick is being a sore loser. After the Ravens used the technique against the Dolphins that the Pats used against the Jets, Miami complained to the league that the new rule (instituted this offseason; initiated by the NFLPA and approved by the NFL competition committee) wasn't being called. The league in typical NFL fashion didn't issue a statement until after the following week's games, but they sent every team and referee a video detailing instances where it should have been called. Before that letter was sent out, the Pats used the same technique against the Saints:
It's clearly a strategy and one that Belichick admitted was his fault(" "But that's not [Jones'] responsibility. That's ours. I just have to do a better job of coaching that. That's not [Jones'] fault." - link) . First it was not a penalty because of the "second level," then it was a penalty that was his fault, now it's a penalty but the Jets did it, too so that somehow means the win is a sham! Except, the Jets didn't do it. Jones, the culprit in the Saints photo above and the penalty in the Jets game, is not engaged with an OL in either instance. He's two-hand pushing a teammate's *ss to propel him through the A-gap. The letter of the rule is "(2) Team B (the FG block) players cannot push teammates on the line of scrimmage into the offensive formation." Jones clearly did it in both instances. Now compare that to what Coples did:
Coples is being blocked and puts a hand on his teammates back for support so he doesn't fall over. If you truly think those are the same thing, you're kidding yourself.
No Pats fan should complain about a ruling. The Pats won a Super Bowl bc of the tuck rule which is no longer in place and spy-gate also won them a couple super bowls one of which against my Panthers which really doesn't sit well with me. Just play by the rules and don't complain when you commit a penalty. It was the right call.

The only sham is that some self-important dope of a referee thought that was an appropriate time to make that call. A call that had never in history been made in an NFL game. And it wasn't just a huge play in the game, it decided the game. Taking into consideration the field position and that the Patriots only needed about 30 yards for a reasonable field goal, that's a monumental swing. Ridiculous call.

But, it was the correct call, and they were literally warned by the league office that it was going to start getting called in the days leading up to the game. It's a new rule, so the "never had been called before" argument is pretty weak, too. Belichick thought he could keep getting away with it and it came back to bite him.

Tuck Rule happened in a divisional playoff round in a game that eventually went to overtime. Raiders cry robbery but had like 4 third downs to stop a 2nd-year QB in the freaking snow. Then the Pats beat the Steelers and Rams to win that gaddamn Super Bowl.
And as far as Spygate goes, news broke in week 2 of the season and they proceeded to go 18-0. Also the winningest franchise in NFL ever since. I swear to god having to repeat this stuff makes me sick.

Yeah except the "completely asinine to make that call in that situation" argument holds up pretty well.

Still cheated and have not won a super bowl since. If it was college football the titles would have been taken away possibly

So penalties shouldn't be called on important plays in a game?
The Jets are in talks with the Browns for Josh Gordon.
Which rumors did you see? Because there's the "Kyle Wilson and a 3rd for Gordon" rumor that was generated by a fan blog, but I haven't seen that reported by any "reputable" site.

I saw it tweeted by a NY Post witer. He said the Jets want their safety too and that's why the deal isn't done

Hm. I can't find it anywhere. They weren't saying the Jets want Gordon and TJ Ward, were they? He's one of the best safeties in football.

Kind of ironic that you are using the word asinine in this situation.

The Browns have been reluctant to let Gordon go without getting something of real value in return. I don't think also trying to get one of their best players on defense is going to help the deal get done.
Jesus Christ, is it 2008. Are teams so desperate that they would reach out to Brett Favre?? Am I the only one who thinks its ridicules that teams would reach out to Favre?
You're just too young to grasp how stylin' I really was. All the boys wanted to do me when I was 5. Actually the girls did too. My haircut was confusing.
This is just staggering considering they are an undefeated NFL team in 2013 and we are entering Week 8.
Here are the teams the Chiefs have beaten: jax(0-7), DAL(4-3), @phi(3-4), NYG(1-6), @ten(3-4), OAK(2-4), HOU(2-5). Combined record 15-33. Their SOS is .313, worst in the league. And its not like they're even playing any of the "good" sh*tty teams, they've just had a schedule filled with absolute dreck. I really think they wind up with an insanely gaudy record (maybe 2 or 3 losses) and get wiped out in the first round of the playoffs. I only say this because people are playing up their undefeated record, but if you actually watch what they've done I don't think it's that impressive.
This is correct. Wait until Smith actually has to start making some plays. Then we'll all remember why SF dumped him for Kaepernick. Defense/ST scoring 44% of a team's points will not last into the playoffs.

I actually think Smith is a capable quarterback. He's not the transcendant player that Kaepernick can be, but he makes decent throws and doesn't turn the ball over, which is a perfect fit for Reid's offense. He had sustained success under Harbaugh, though he was eventually jettisoned for Kaepernick. But I do think that against better defenses they will struggle, and I don't think their defense has really been tested yet. I have a weird feeling that they wind up losing to Buffalo in week 9.
Buffalo will be starting a gimpy EJ Manuel or Matt Flynn or Thad Lewis or a road cone or Nodepression...not sure they'll be able to do much of anything against that defense.
And for the record, I don't think KC is the best team in the AFC, but they're knocking down the pins lined up in front of them and that's commendable. Winning 7 straight games is an accomplishment no matter who the opponents are. They play great defense and use their running game to mask issues elsewhere. They're 2nd in the league in point differential, so they're at least crushing the bad teams (which is something good teams do). They're an above average team talent-wise with excellent schemes on both sides of the ball and that's why they're winning. I do agree that they're the top pick for "playoff team with good record who gets beat in the first round." 12-4 is entirely reasonable if they win 1 of the next 2 weeks and go into their bye week 8-1, but their second half schedule is tough and they haven't been tested by anyone. They will be a very interesting team. Right now I'd rank them, Seattle and the Jets as having the best front-sevens in football (in that order). Scary team to face, for sure. But to win any games without a passing TD is outrageous, let alone three in a row. Alex Smith plays within the system, but they really need to let him loft a couple bombs to Bowe or something.
Watching your team win in primetime is one of the best feelings, even if it is against a shoddy team like Tampa Bay. I know the next three games will really determine if we can be in the mix for a wild card spot, and I probably shouldn't get too excited about beating up on Minnesota, St. Louis and Tampa. For now, though, it's feeling pretty good to be a Panthers fan.
...I feel bad for Hell Relle Revis. The guy is the best in football at a skill (press man coverage) and he's playing zone in 90%+ of his snaps. It never ceases to amaze me when professional coaches miss something so blatantly obvious. Bill Sheridan is a rigid dipsh*t and Schiano massive ego won't let him just change the scheme to fit the player. I mean, why not? You're the worst team in football.
Maybe they're tanking on purpose to try and get Teddy B., but they're wasting a prime year of a top-15 NFL player and making him go insane by telling him to go stand in one spot and wait for people to come to him.
I'm ready to start the "Revis is a Jet in 2014" hype train, anyone want a ticket?
