My car was the biggest giveaway. In all seriousness it's pretty easy to remember where you are. There's giant lit up balloons with numbers identifying which pod they're over. Remember where you are in relation to that balloon and you'll be fine.
We have a big red truck so that helps but our first year we were also right by a crossroads which also helped and last year we had a giant teepee close that you could see from far away.
First, you will get a map. Once you figure out where you are camped, mark it on the map. Next, your nearest pod balloon will help you get near your camping area from far away. Finally, look for a campsite with a flag or other unique feature that's nearby once you set up.
If you are travelling in a bigger group, making a flag of your own is always fun.

Every year I rely on the people around me, last year we turned right after the porta potties and the smiley faced balloon. Year before that we turned right at the ice truck and naked blow up doll Year before that, right at Bob Marley flag. I could give you the exact marker I used every year since 2006. I've never needed any marker to find our specific spot....just a marker for our road area.
BUT god forbid one of my generic markers moved, I would just keep on walking! One year, the year of the Bob Marley flag, they left a day early, or moved and I stopped and just looked around for like, 10 minutes, going "where in the hell am I? How did I get here? Where is my tent? WHAT IS GOING ON?!" Then I saw my EZ up and the crisis was averted
Moral of the story: you good people who take the time to decorate your camp, keep doing it!!! Don't let us lazy slackers have a bad influence on you. We are really counting in you to find our home. You, much like the fat bottomed girls, make the rockin' world go round.
Since we're on the topic of camping, is anyone else doing gROOp camping this year? Our group was a little short but we got a message saying they'd merge another short group with us. Just seeing if any of you guys might be merged with me :b I know it's a fat chance considering all the people that go, but still haha. It's also my first year at roo, so I pretty much have no idea how it works. I have friends that have been every year, but I think roo is something you have to experience to know. Everyone perceives it differently, I saw some very negative comments about it when I was researching a little bit. I just feel like those people couldn't take the heat...or being dirty. Okay now I'm just rambling. Sorry

Triangulate against stationary objects. Stand there in your campsite and look around you and recite: "OK, I'm Clubber Lang, I see a pod balloon that way, a lemonade stand over there, and an ice trailer down yonder. Good to go."

I've never had a problem. I Dont know if I have a good sense of direction or memory or what, but I get back just fine. Last year a friend of mine was with me for his 1st year. He ended up lost at night after Radiohead for a couple of hours. He said he took a cab 3 different times trying to figure out how to get back. He also had to get directions out of Centeroo that night...so he may have been a little inebriated.

Has anyone ever used Balloons? Seems like that could be a easy and cheap way to make a marker. At any party store you can buy the small tank to blow up balloons and just fill them when you get there..or a couple each day or whatever.
Maybe even hang a bunch around ur campsite with a sign that says "Free Balloons". You would be walking back to camp and see people walking around with your balloons. Lol

^^^^ I'm pretty sure if they see you rolling in with a tank of anything they will confiscate it at the gate, regardless of how kind your intentions are... I could be wrong, but I just don't think they will let it through.
Yeah we briefly thought of bringing the helium tank & balloon kit you can get at Party City for $30 but figured there was no way they were going to let us in with that. Although both years they barely searched through our stuff so we could have gotten in with it easy.
