how can you waste this money on Bonnaroo? That 600 bucks is supposed to offset the rising costs of living!
I'm not sure which speech you heard, but every speech I've heard Bush give in relationship to this stimulus package has indicated the purpose of this bill is to create more consumer spending which makes up roughly two-thirds of our economy is based on.
They don't want us saving the money. They want us spending the money, for better or for worse. But then, some of us might be doing both.

Yeah, I know about that. I just find the whole thing funny. Economy in the dumps? Can't pay the mortgage? Here's a few hundred bucks for ya!

wow.
That is the most American way to try and fix an economic problem. Just mail everyone a cheque and hope they keep spending. You guys should really think about what you do with that money, because you know hard times are ahead if this is what they've resorted to.
I am trying to figure out where those of you have been lately when this has been all over the news - I am really surprised at how many people have no clue about the economic stimulus checks
This check is buying me a digital camera and a new tent for roo... hmmm....from my standpoint I guess they accomplished their mission.
yeah, the nice part about the cheques you are getting in the States is the fact that they are large enough to actually do something with. Even if you don't agree with the politics behind it, $600 (or whatever it is) is always nice
Stimulus Payment Schedule for Tax Returns Processed by April 15
Economic stimulus payments will be issued according to the last two-digits of the main filer's Social Security number. People who use direct deposit also will be among the first to receive the payments starting May 2. Paper checks will be put in the mail starting May 16.
DIRECT DEPOSIT
Last two SSN digits: Payment will be transmitted: 00 through 20 May 2 21 through 75 May 9 76 through 99 May 16
PAPER CHECK
Last two SSN digits: Payments will be mailed by: 00 through 09 May 16 10 through 18 May 23 19 through 25 May 30 26 through 38 June 6 39 through 51 June 13 52 through 63 June 20 64 through 75 June 27 76 through 87 July 4 88 through 99 July 11
People who file a return after April 15 will receive their economic stimulus payment, but probably about two weeks later than the schedule shows. A return must be filed by October 15 in order to receive a stimulus payment this year. See the online calculator for an estimate of the amount you will receive.
A small percentage of tax returns will require additional time to process and to compute a stimulus payment amount. For these returns, stimulus payments may not be issued in accordance with the schedule above, even if the tax return was processed by April 15.

I dont think I get the stimulus unfortunately, im a college student so I don't get it? Iono ill find out when I file, im a lazy bum and need to soon! Either way whatever I get back will go towards roo
I cant believe that their solution to strengthen an economy slowing because of rising debt was to borrow more money. But hey it just goes to prove your government actually can fuck it up some more.
I lost my job a month ago so my money from W is probably going to go towards bills but my boyfriend decided to give in and get a PS3. We've already purchased our Bonnaroo tickets!
Thanks W! That's probably the only time i'll ever say that.
Can somebody link that FAQ? I have some questions.
I file my own return but on my return I list that I can be claimed as a dependent on someone else's return. My parents also claim me as a dependent on their return. Will I get a check? That money could dictate whether or not I go to bonnaroo...

We got notices in the mail, and the way I read the text, it looks like we'll all get up to $600, and then you'll get an extra $300 for each person you've listed as a dependent. Here, I've pulled it out, and it says:
"Additional Stimulus Payment for Children. Individuals eligible for payments may also recieve an additional $300 for each qualifying child for the child tax credit."
So it's just extra money, apparently. If you filed a return and made at least $3,000 last year, you'll get between $300 and $600. So by that math, if two parents both work full time and filed jointly, and they have one child, they could get a check for up to $1,500. If their child made at least $3,000, he/she would also get a check for up to $600, but no less than $300.
The key word there is MAY. Parents only get 300 bucks for dependents under the age of 17. So for most college age kids claimed by their parents, they get nothing and your parents don't get anything for you either. This has been the biggest objection to the package, mostly because this age group would probably be the first to spend it, the whole point of doing this in the first place.
Even crazier, my uncle died last year (we took care of him) and he got one of those Stimulus Mailers everyone is getting. It was sent to my families house, we looked it up, and dead people are eligible for the money. How stupid is that?
And I'm not sure about this, but I don't think we are borrowing this money from china. It just wouldn't make sense....the US dollar isn't backed by the gold standard anymore, so now we can just fire up the printing press and print away. I'm not an economist but that's my take on the whole deal.
At the bottom of the other side of the page, it says, "In addition, individuals cannot recieve a payment if they can be claimed as a dependent of another taxpayer."

We're basically selling China our treasury notes. If we just printed a bunch of money (which we do most of the time) the dollar really wouldn't be worth a $hit. China doesn't mind lending us the money because they know that most of the money is going to be spent in a wal-mart somewhere and make its way back to them anyway.
