Actually, it doesn't even guarantee you that much. My friend and I waited in line for an hour to get passes for Lewis Black in 2011, came back 10 minutes before showtime and were told that we still couldn't get in (which begs the question of why they even bothered with the passes).
I'm not sure if that's standard policy or if someone at the comedy tent goofed up, but I was not a happy camper.
They do specific passes for specific shows. Did you make sure the pass you were getting was for the Lewis Black show and not just the next comedy show? I always see lots of people who grab a pass early in the day at like 1 p.m. and think that it will get them into any comedy show.
If you grabbed a pass specifically for Lewis Black (like others were in line for that as well) and you went to the show with that pass before it started and wasn't let in then that sounds like an error on somebody's part and not the normal way things are done. I've seen many comedians at Roo and haven't run into this issue.
Oh yes, this ain't my first rodeo. I had been to the comedy tent in '08 and '09, so I already knew how it worked. There were two Lewis Black sets that day, and I specified I wanted to see the second one. The guy who gave me my ticket didn't really look like he knew what he was doing. Oh well, wah wah.

Yea, that's really lame. I've heard other stories of people dealing with clueless workers/volunteers. I've luckily avoided that for the most part with the comedy tent. It would be nice for them to make sure everyone knows what's going on though.

Okay, what about the opposite.....
I love me some Comedy Bing Bong, but I've listened to Bjork since I was 10 or so trying to seem cool with my older brother. Can you leave the comedy tent tactfully without causing a disruption?
Hope they add a second show in that open Sunday block!
