Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
I'm not sure exactly who is in charge of @inforoo on Twitter, but I'd like to speak with them. I have a handful of ideas as to how the page could be more effectively utilized that I would like to share. There's a lot of unrealized potential to the account which could be tapped into, given some brainstorming and a little work.
With that in mind, here are a few suggestions:
1A. Tweet more during Bonnaroo. Bonnaroo 2012 was June 7-10th last year. During the actual festival dates, @inforoo only sent out two tweets - one on Thursday, one on Sunday. Underwhelming, no? An alternative/complement to tweeting during Bonnaroo, if one is needed, would be to promote some of us who use both Twitter and Inforoo. Direct observers to them if @inforoo isn't going to do it themselves. It's social media. Provide some content and/or direct your followers to those that do. 1B. Tweet more before & after Bonnaroo. As I write this, @inforoo has not tweeted in a solid two weeks... just two weeks before the festival. This is probably a time of year when the account draws more interest than usual, and it might be worth the effort to take advantage of that. Some things I would suggest would include linking to helpful threads here (for first-timers, RVers, etc) and encouraging people to use the site itself. A little effort here might drive traffic to the site. As for after Bonnaroo... after the tweet on Bonnaroo Sunday last year, @inforoo went silent until September. It leaves something to be desired.
2. Follow Inforoo users We're your base. The people who read you, the people @inforoo should be interacting with, retweeting, #FFing, etc. I think it's perhaps underutilized here. Perhaps there is a way for moderators (or even us users?) to see the sum total of Inforoo users' Twitter handles and add them? Perhaps a thread is in order elsewhere to round up Inforooers' usernames? Maybe on a yearly basis to keep it current. It could be more of a two-way street than it currently is.
3. Lists I would suggest, after following a number of Inforooers on Twitter, that those names be used to create a list. A Twitter user can subscribe to a list and see all the tweets coming from people on that list. As an added benefit, Inforooers on Twitter would also be able to more easily find one another and interact. I know this site is somewhat on board with that, seeing as we're encouraged to follow and mention one another on the site after the redesign. I would suggest creating one list of Inforoo users, and another list of Bonnaroo artists as well as bonnaroo and Ashley Capps. It could provide a more comprehensive perspective about the festival for which this site was created.
4. Description Not going into too much detail here. Just saying I think the profile bio could use a bit of editing and/or fleshing out.
Just wanted to throw this out there before Bonnaroo, in hopes that @inforoo can utilize some of the momentum provided by Bonnaroo being so close. I'd be glad to help where I can with this.

Thanks Kdogg for your suggestions. We'll work on some things. Not sure how often we'll be tweeting during the festival considering battery life on phones is important but maybe some people not at the festival will handle that.

I like your off-site point person idea. Couldn't do it myself.
Some of those things I mention don't actually have to be done during Bonnaroo, though. @inforoo could be following people now, for example. In fact, with a daily follow maximum, I think an earlier start is a good thing. Just gotta revisit some of the old Twitter threads here and/or start a 2013 thread for it to get those handles. Or use that info where it appears in profiles.
Same goes for tweeting to promote certain helpful threads or general site use. None of that needs to wait until we're onsite. Those can be done from home.
There's no way of sharing (and a lower likelihood of even knowing) what Inforooers are tweeting if you aren't following them. That's the two-way street I'm talking about. Could still find that stuff by sifting & searching, but who wants to do that mid-festival? That's why I suggested following in advance.
As for battery life, I understand. I've got an internal battery phone I haven't yet taken to a festival, instead of one phone with eight spare batteries I can just replace as in years past. Ordered a AA-to-microUSB thingy that may or may not work toward that end myself. Theoretically, if I bring enough batteries I could be checking in on that from my phone every couple hours. (The fact that my girlfriend chides me for how often I check in on just my one notwithstanding...)
If you trust me enough, and I will point out we all know y'all can ban me here if I violate that trust, I'll go in there and make my described lists for you, for starters. The following artists part is simple. The following users part, I might need an assist from moderators (a sticky on an "Inforoo Twitter handles 2013" thread and/or compiling users' handles from their profile info here) to do it better than I could if I just got login info.
My offer to help not only still stands, but now more closely resembles a specific proposal. I guess that's your call, mods.
Political that I am, here's my platform & pledges in my campaign to persuade you to let me do this...
1. I will create a list consisting of verified accounts of artists performing at Bonnaroo 2013.
2. I will create a list of Inforoo users on Twitter, gathering those handles via: a. A post on Inforoo asking for current Inforoo tweeters' handles. b. A tweet from @inforoo soliciting usernames from Inforoo users following the account. c. The most recent Inforoo Twitter thread existing, prior to the creation of any current/2013 thread.
3. My tweets leading up to Bonnaroo will promote the site in general, link to specific threads which may be helpful, share helpful information such as the weather forecast as the festival nears, and solicit @inforoo followers to give their Inforoo name for inclusion on a list. I will of course listen to moderator suggestions as to which threads to promote if they feel the desire to advise.
4. I will adhere to the no druq talk & no profanity rules in effect here, as well as any other conditions moderators wish to include.
5. I will neither change nor share any account information provided to me.
6. I would like to do a bit of editing to the @inforoo bio section, just to flesh out and/or clean it up a bit. I will seek moderator approval before enacting such changes.
7. I will tweet the location of brunch as best as 140 characters will allow & include a photo of its marker flags to enable followers to more easily find it.
8. I cannot guarantee omnipresence, but will strive to both make the occasional inquiry (who was your favorite act today, any celebrity sightings, favorite fest food, things of that nature) and share some of the best responses.
9. I will identify myself as the person making changes around @inforoo for transparency. I will keep my personal tweets on my personal Twitter feed.
10. The incumbent @inforoo operator hasn't tweeted in three weeks, only tweeted twice during last year's festival dates & then went silent for months. Is there really that much of a case to be made that I would do less/worse for the Inforoo/@inforoo brand?

I have followed K-Dogg on Twitter for awhile now and totally trust his judgement. I also think this is a GREAT idea and a chance to really expand Inforoo to a wider base as well as keeping those established members in the know. Twitter is vastly gaining in popularity and, to me personally, is a better way to communicate quick info than Facebook.
K-Dogg has a wonderful honest reputation on Twitter and having him assist this situation would be an AMAZINGLY good move! Mods, this is an opportunity for you guys to branch out and get more people involved in Inforoo as well as the ongoings of Inforoo (Brunch, Whoring For Whoreshack, and many otther things).

I would actually like to amend one of my pledges above, the non-profanity clause, to allow for the sharing of that annual tradition of Kanye backlash graffiti.
I brought it up in advance, hoping my free time this past week could have been put to some use. I doubt it can be now. A lot of the advance work I had been talking about when I posted, I had hoped would have been accomplished by this point. Hasn't happened. I've got my state Democratic convention going on this Fri/Sat, helping set up tomorrow, and getting myself ready for Bonnaroo with my remaining day off work on Monday. I asked about it earlier because I had more time to work on it earlier than this. Won't happen.
I still think @inforoo underperforms its potential and hope some of the things I said provide a blueprint for its future use. *crickets*

We were in the process of discussing this and other social media topics. We apologize if our response was not timely enough for you. We have been planning and working on increasing our social media presence but are still working on various other things at the same time (not to mention the busy festival season being upon us). We agreed with many of your suggestions and will be utilizing them going forward but will not be handing the twitter account over to anyone besides the moderators at this time. It can definitely be better and we are going to work on that. It's been a bit of time but we're still working on a variety of things related to the "new" Inforoo.
Thanks for the help and suggestions. It's much appreciated

No need to thank me for my help. I offered it, but it was declined.
As for my suggestions... it's not just my personal schedule that necessitated pressing the issue. Some of these things take time to do. Like the lists, for example... you all know there's a cap on how many accounts one can follow, right? I think it's 100 per day? So say you wanted to follow 120+ artist accounts as well as however-many Inforoo accounts. You can't do that all in a single sitting, you know. That's at least a two-day, multi-part project just for the list part of it. So I'm not just pushy because I wanted to help on my personal schedule. Some of this stuff just needs advance work regardless of who does it. Understand when I say that if some of these things aren't started by tomorrow or the next day, they're probably not coming to fruition by this year's festival, period.
I get the feeling, ITM, that you're either alone or in a tiny minority of the mods here who have working knowledge of Twitter. Another reason I've been a bit pushy about this. I mean, one of the great things about this place is the collaborative things that happen here. I just fail to see why this can't be one of them.
Considering how you admit the way the account has been underused on a moderators-only basis in the past, I'm not quite sure how keeping it in moderator-only hands going forward changes things much. I suspect the only suggestion I made which wasn't agreed upon by y'all was the one about handing the account over to a - gasp! - regular old user. So I have to ask... if I was ahead of the curve with my other suggestions, why not that one?
No need to thank me for the suggestions, either, actually... y'all have fun hearing my ideas & acting on all of them except the one which denies you guys the credit for making changes. I know how butthurt y'all can get when someone tries to burst the bubble of moderator infallibility.
In the meantime, I'll be looking forward to seeing @inforoo's tweets about Spicy Pie. Both of them.

Thanks for confirming to us that we made the right decision kdogg. Btw we all unanimously agreed that handing over control was a bad idea. So there was that to.
I still think you guys missed the point with K-Dogg. If anyone has ever followed his Twitter account, they can tell you that he is an amazing relayer of facts and extremely good at keeping you in the moment.

I don't doubt that he is a dedicated Twitter user, amazing relayer of facts, and so on. None of the mods doubt that. We just don't feel comfortable handing over the board's Twitter account access to anyone but the mods. There are a number of reasons for that. Wouldn't matter who was asking, it'd be the same answer.
I think we can all agree that you should just put me in charge. Actually, why not split it between me, NoD and Flanzo? None of us are attending this year, we could follow all the relevant accounts and let everyone know the crucial updates as they happen. I can't see any way this could backfire.

Why not make this more automatic and add in some teamwork to help encourage this account to become more active, have a larger following, and be a more helpful resource? Using something like Hootsuite would allow for several people to work as a team (I'd suggest having people sign their initials at the end so people can link personalities to the support) and also hook up direct RSS feeds to Bonnaroo related sites as well as Google News for the keyword of your choice (i.e. Bonnaroo) and it would automatically tweet new news out on the hour every hour it was available. I'd also suggest pushing the hashtag #inforoo and interact with those who use it through direct interaction as well indirect (favoriting and retweeting).
I'm new here but not to social media and these suggestions were based merely on experience in that field. Take what you will from it and I hope it helps in some way!
