Well shiz if nobody else is gonna make it, here it go.
New single "Came Back Haunted" debuts tomorrow (June 6, 2013).
Lisa Worden, Music Director for the Los Angeles station said of the track: "I think it's in line with the first two albums. Its got a great beat, it's not the experimental material Trent's done in the last five years." She added: "I wouldn't say that it's dance-y, but it does have a great beat, a groove. Trent really brought it with this song. It’s going to sound amazing to new fans and old. It's just cool."
Album title still TBAHesitation Marks. Hope it doesn't suck. inb4 probability of sucking 40%. album cover:
Album release date: Sept 3, 2013.
Live band will be: Trent Reznor - vocals/keys/guitars/synth Robin Finck - guitars Alessandro Cortini - bass/keys/synth Ilan Rubin - drums Josh Eustis - synth/keys
Eric Avery also backed out of tour. Avery said he was "overwhelmed" after recently touring with Garbage and didn't feel like he could commit to another year and a half on the road "with all the intensity that Nails demands". Adrian Belew heavily contributed to new album but will not be touring with them despite earlier statements saying that he would be. Probably due to similiar reasons and I really don't blame him.
Am I forgetting anything?
I'm overwhelmed with excitement that I get to see them again at Voodoo in a few months. And I know many of you are excited to see them at Lolla, MOEMS, or Jay-Z's Made In America Festival. I've seen them 3 times before: Downward Spiral, The Fragile, and With Teeth tours but haven't seen them since. I blew it and didn't go to Roo '09 because I was too broke. I also blew it not seeing them at Voodoo '08 due to the most drama that I have ever encountered at a festival involving a couple of friends that I will never ever go to a festival with again. So I haven't seen them since 2006. I'm really curious about the production of this tour as I was completely blown away by HtDA's stage setup at Coachella and am nearly just as excited to see them at Voodoo as NIN.
Still lamed out about how they've handled this... whatever the hell happened with the live lineup. Either way, NIN never disappoints on stage, and album contributions from Belew is great, but damn... they were promoting this as more or less a supergroup of a live lineup. Now, it's NIN from 09 (mostly), again... which is great, don't get me wrong, but still.
The shows will be fine, the usual wait and see on the new studio material. I'm not quite as excited as I was before all... whatever, but I'm still really happy to be able to see/hear from them this year.
I'm still not accepting that Adrian isn't touring with them. there were no official statements about it. he was definitely rehearsing to tour with them, not just playing on the album.
Adrian Belew is making some kind of announcement today at noon CST. Don't think it will be NIN related, but it could impact or explain why he's not touring with them.
hey world! for more than 2 years now Daniel Rowland and I have been working on my new solo project. all of us recording artists are charged with making yet another record, another CD, releasing another download into the massive download universe. this is not that. this is something which, to my knowledge, has never been done. that rare entity: something new. a different way to enjoy music.
it's called FLUX: Music That Is Never The Same Twice.
think about that for a moment. music that is never the same twice. how is that possible? what will it sound like?
over the upcoming weeks I intend to tell you all about it but with the limited space of facebook I'll have to break into pieces (kind of like the music itself). but for now let me say this. FLUX will be a kind of listening "experience". each time you hear it, the experience will be unique and surprising. even I will never know where it will begin, where it will end, or what will happen in between. since FLUX is not meant to be "commercial" it can and will contain literally anything which appeals to my ears. found sounds, guitar effects, snippets, and loads of bits of music and songs. every now and then a whole song play all the way through, but most of the time songs will come to you in ever-changing pieces like a giant jigsaw puzzle. even the pieces will not always sound the same. for example, instead of a song having the same guitar solo each time, alternate solos may happen when you least expect it. or a different mix. a different vocal with new words. anything may happen!
FLUX will also be interactive so you the listener can affect the experience and personalize it more to your taste. over time it will include simple but random visuals which you may also have a hand in.
FLUX: Music That Is Never The Same Twice has one more serious difference to a CD/download. it will never be finished. I intend to add to it as often as possible to further insure you'll never hear it the same way twice. FLUX is in fact a living evolving entity.
Looks like I'll be seeing NIN 3 times this year! Weeeeeeeeeeeeee!

"First came the album announcement, then the first single, and now Nine Inch Nails give us the final piece in tonight’s holy trinity of music news with the announcement of a North American tour. In support of Hesitation Marks, the band has unveiled plans for a new arena tour called Tension.
According to NIN mastermind Trent Reznor, Tension will pick up where the band’s 2008 Lights in the Sky tour left off, adding , “This is the full-on NIN live experience realized as we never could before.”
Also, it's kinda odd that Pitchfork is saying Raleigh on 10/21, and other places are not.

sounds great. I think there will be a few more shows announced to fill in those gaps. they may even come back to Greenville. but who's in for ATL show and caravan to Mt Oasis?

I was wanting to do something like this when I first heard about the tour, but I'm not so sure right now... it would be nice to knock Godspeed out of my conflicts for MOEMS, though.

OH FUCK YEAH!!! Finally I'll get to see GSYBE and with NIN who have always put on an amazing production of a show. Bummed as shit about Adrian though...that sucks but I respect his decision.
So excited to hear the tour will be more like Lights in the Sky, which I'm assuming means a full out audio/video spectacle. The Voodoo 2008 show is a Top 5 live music experience of all time for me.
Digging the new single, it doesn't have any "woah" moments of NIN intensity, but the production sounds fantastic. I have high hopes for the new record. Then again I've never heard an NIN record I didn't love.
