The worst tip I have given (in my memory) is about 15% for REALLY bad service. I feel guilty going lower no matter the service.
Twice, I have tipped exactly 15% for really bad service. Once, I worked out the 15% on the back of the check in an attempt to make it clear what I was doing, but I have a feeling it was lost on the guy. The other time, there were three of us, and we paid in cash, leaving exactly 15%. I think one of my friends may have also left a note explaining that we were basically completely ignored the whole time we were in the restaurant, but I don't remember. Anyway, I read somewhere recently that if you put down two pennies on the table, that is to signify that you are intentionally leaving a bad tip because you are unhappy with the service. Is that really a thing?
Usually, I figure out 20% (of the after tax amount) and go up a couple of dollars, but I've been known to go way up for great service.
I like your style I would say any small, random amount of change it would be pretty obvious what you're doing. I know you wouldn't, and I still never would. If I get tipped less than 5%, I actually lose money on you due to tipouts. Unless the server called me a b*tch and intentionally tossed a drink in my face or something, I couldn't imagine it being THAT bad. At that point, I would expect the restaurant to comp the entire check and walk the server to the door. So probably still wouldn't have the opportunity to leave 2 pennies
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
I had a server yesterday who, while completely competent, has one of the worst server personalities ever. The woman really should never have entered the service world. My friend and I split the check and both said thank you when she put the slips back on the table. I was looking at her face. There was no "you're welcome," "no, thank you," or "have a great day." Not even a smile or any eye contact. Just turned around and walked away. That is the last chance a server has to charm the guest... and she just walks away?

I think the two pennies thing was supposed to actually be in addition to whatever tip you left, so like, 15% plus the two pennies to say, "I know this is a crappy tip and I meant it that way." Even still, it would take something pretty bad for me to do that because everybody has bad days. I've never been a server before, but I worked at a TCBY for three years, which was plenty for me to understand that anybody working with the public on a regular basis deserves to be tipped barring some kind of terrible behavior.

I never heard about it being two cents specifically, but I know people leave coins as a tip to send a negative message because of you leave nothing, the server may just think you forgot. It's a dick move either way.
Is really sad to hear how mean people can be. I feel for you in that industry. I know I couldn't do it.
It is fascinating as an outsider reading this though.
I had no idea servers didn't keep 100pc of tips.
I usually tip 10-15 pc here in the UK but always depending on service quality because servers don't rely on tips as they're still paid a wage. The downside of that is our service is much more inconsistent and often a lot worse. It is often just take order/bring food. No interaction or help. Very transactional.
We had one ignorant rude server in three weeks in the states and I still couldn't bring myself to go under 15 pc. Just felt wrong knowing someone lives on that money even if they suck. And everyone has a bad day now and
We tipped over 50pc in gus's fried chicken. It was the cheapest but best meal we had and the service was exceptional then it dawned on me - why does he get less than somewhere with more expensive food?
Its very confusing as a foreigner though. Like the guy who drives you on a bus from the car hire to the airport terminal. Do you tip him?
And taking your bag to your room at the hotel. That never happens at a 3 star here. So am I rude for carrying it myself like I normally do. Like have I wronged him/her in some way?
The bar staff at roo were always surprised when I tipped them. I couldn't decide if that was because no one really did or reputation as an Englishman...
I'm an American, and I couldn't tell you half the shit you're supposed to tip on.
Worst tip I gave in recent memory was around 13%. The service at this particular place is shit to begin with, but this one instance - I seen the waitress twice in two hours. Half the time I had to run to the bar or flag down other servers to get help.
Had a $400 steakhouse meal for 4 in Vegas. Tipped about $80. I would have tipped an Inforooster $100+. The waiter was a little bit of a douche, but that's probably because I was in flip flops at a fancy restaurant. Also, it was on a company credit card.
$67 ticket. in the tip line: "don't suck a dick for a dollar"
fuck this. I can't wait to get out of doing this full time. the amount of shit I put up with from complete strangers every single day is just too much. this is by far the rudest thing a customer has ever done to me.
This reminds me of a cutscene in a movie where one person does something douchy and the main character kills them, then time backs up to before they killed them.
My work computer has been running very slowly the past week. Yesterday morning I told IT and they took a look at it. Apparently the exhaust fan was clogged with dust (???) and my computer was overheating and not processing properly. WTH? I asked if there was anything I could do to avoid getting dust in the laptop and was told no, just to call them when it happens again and they'll clean it out.

Pretty normal, especially if you have pets or anything else that might cause an increase in dust/hair/etc. Every computer, whether desktop or laptop, could use to be blown out from time to time depending on conditions. Unless you plan on living in a clean room environment, not much you can really do. Thankfully it's an easy fix
I remember the first time I cleaned out my laptop (probably 2+ years into its life). The heatsink was packed TIGHT with dust. It kept overheating and shutting off.
I'm in a very dire situation. My audio cable from my laptop to my speakers is dying. There's a loose connection in the tip, and it makes a horrendous screeching electronic sound that's EXTREMELY loud. Probably what Skrillex sounds like to some.
If I apply slight pressure to the cable, the connection is fine. So at the moment, I have a piece of duct tape holding it. But I can tell it's wanting to fail already.
I work a 12 hour shift by myself with no co-workers. I NEED my music! I have a backup cable at my apartment, which I'll probably have to go to again tonight, but that's a two hour drive away
I took a job to move to Savannah with a network of urgent care clinics. The doc was nice, easygoing and a little unconventional but hey, I like unconventional lol
6 weeks later....I have given notice, not sure if I will even be able to finish the notice. I am terrified of this man. He monitors our conversations in the clinic, monitors the phones. He wants to overtreat the hell out of any little thing and handle very inappropriate things in the clinic just to make money. I have already been put in some very frightening situations that I feel jeopardize the career that I have worked so hard for. We have to text each patients' treatment plan either to him or the PA who is "medical director" and who was DRUNK one day when I was texting him.
After I gave notice he called and screamed at me for 23 minutes straight in which he basically threatened me from being able to work anywhere in this town.
I thought I was moving to paradise by moving to the coast. Instead, I am a wreck. I am starting to have all sorts of physical symptoms. I am anxious about being out of work and of being intimidated by this monster, also losing my license if I stay. He is violating so many accepted treatment guidelines that it is unbelievable.
I have filed a complaint with the Board of Medicine specific to a couple of incidents in which patient safety was severely compromised, also reporting the drunk PA and this guy's general business practices which value money over all. I met with an investigator yesterday for 2 hours and they commended me for being the first ever employee to come forward. (People are terrified of this man) There have apparently been prior patient complaints....anyway I put together a packet with copies of our bogus treatment protocols and a 4 page typed summary of the improprieties. They are moving on it....he will likely be disciplined or suspended....but once the shit hits the fan he will know who complained.
I have been through a fair amount of crap in the last 3 years and don't really have any fight left...emotional or financial. But I will guarantee you this. This madman may be my undoing but I am taking him down with me. The things he is doing cannot be allowed to go on.
Boom. I feel infinitesmally better after being able to vent that. Thank you.

Wow, sucks you're having to go through that. Glad you're reporting him though, it won't stop until someone is brave enough to do it. Who knows, you might end up with some good contacts with respectable clinics after this, they might want someone to fight for what's right!
@zenfnp I'm so sory you have had to deal with this asshole. Good for you on turning him in the medical board. If the clinics accept Medicare please call the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) and report him if he is ordering medically unnecessary services for the patients. This is what I do for a living, and there may be more going on than you realize.

Well I work in an office... I've had this laptop for about 2 years, I just never realized dust would cause such a problem.
@zenfnp is there anywhere else you can get employment there in Savannah? When is your two weeks up? I'm worried about you staying in that work place since you have reported him.
JHOinTN - nope, he does not accept Medicare. He presents it under the guise of "eliminating paperwork" but now after delving into things a little more, he formerly practiced in another state and pretty sure he did get into some trouble there.
Yesterday was pretty intense. The investigator was super nice and very impressed with what I had put together but anytime you are sitting across from someone with a badge and a gun for 2 hours it is a little unnerving lol.
I know I am doing the right thing. And I can't believe that I am the only one who has had the balls to do it from all of the revolving door of employees this guy has had. But good grief, why does doing the right thing have to be so effing stressful and threaten my livelihood? LOL. My anxiety level right now is as high as it has been at any point in the last 3 years.
I am sending off resumes like crazy. Even considering jobs outside of medicine but there's not much else that I know how to do. I worked as a paralegal for years before going back to school but that experience is so remote it likely is not useful.
Just need some positive calming vibes. But also need to stay strong and ready to fight if need be.
so anyway, that's why I have been laying kinda low. Inforoo is safe but I am pretty sure that he looks at our Facebooks, or so I have been told. I have put a couple of vague things on there but of course can't go truly public with all of this.
I pick up shifts for people alllllllllll the time. Literally every time I've ever been asked besides once when I was out of town. The first time I ever have a shift I'm trying to get covered and no one is helping me out... I even offered 10 bucks. Fuck these motherfuckers. That is all.
I challenge all of roo to come up with a worse job than the one I currently have . My current job is beating Cancer . So every other week I'm sick enough to beg to die . Followed by a week of pain inall my joints to the point that 16mg of dilaudid is just spacey drooly disorienting almost pain relieving . Now don't say "aww so sorry to hear that " say those things if you hear that I'm out of work and not looking anymore .

Girls are coming into my new job (bagel shop) asking for iced mocha. Cool, we have that and it's delicious. But they are asking for it without the espresso.... So you want chocolate milk? Because that's what we make our mocha with. Listening to the owner have that discussion with these girls is hilarious and frustrating.

Lmao, that's amazing.
"Can I get a burger and fries, but no burger please?"

We blame Dunkin Donuts because they have that mocha flavor for their coffee. These girls just genuinely think it's a flavored coffee drink. They don't even know what espresso is. The owner was telling me that when she was explaining what a mocha is to someone that she didn't know what espresso was. The owner just went "You know those Turbo shots you can get in your coffee at Dunkin's? It's like that, but better."
I have never been a fan of Dunkin Donuts and this new job has made me even less of a fan.

Per answers.com (which has to be insanely wrong) there are over 400 in Chicago. I pass at least 3 on my walk to work.

There are 22 within 5 miles of my house. I almost feel like that number is too small.
