My goal this year is to eat at least breakfast and some lunches at camp but I don't know what to cook! I have a two-burner camp stove (propane), two pots and a skillet. Most of the meals I cook at home require baking and/or fairly involved preparation so I need some new ideas. I am looking for quick, easy, and delicious. Thanks!
(Apologies if this thread already exists, but I couldn't find one.)
I'm hoping to do the same thing. I've got stuff for breakfast burritos- eggs, cheese, sausage, veggies- I pre cooked sausage and froze it. I also cooked some hamburger and froze it. And I froze a marinated flank steak. Lots of tortillas and pitas. And veggies that sautée well- zuchinni, squash, mushrooms, peppers, onions.
Does anyone know if Hummus will keep in a cooler? If so should I put it in my dry ice cooler or my regular ice cooler?
It's kept well in mine the last two years, and it's always in a dry ice cooler. Make sure it's well sealed (I put mine in another container) if you do dry ice, or else you'll have carbonated hummus.
It was rediculously refreshing with some cold baby carrots.
I am in charge of breakfast @ my camp castleroo. Here are some of the things I cook for roo Omelets - ham & cheese Camp potatoes - throw chopped onion, butter, & chopped potatoes into pan and cover. 20-30 min add butter when needed French toast - easy just egg, cinnamon, bread Bacon/sausage Fruit concoction - cut strawberries, bananas, blueberries in a bowl. Mix juice from one lemon &tbsp of honey in seperate bowl/ stir and pour over mix fruit. Choc chip pancakes - just add water Grits

The carbonation was my biggest worry. I don't mind carbonated fruit, but carbonated hummus doesn't sound too appealing. Thanks!
I usually don't cook. I pack bread, peanut butter, apples/oranges, clif bars, pretzels/cheezits and coke zero/Gatorade/bottled water. String cheese will stay good in the cooler with drinks. I eat one "meal" a day in centeroo or in shakedown.
I ate nothing but lunchables and tuna salad sandwiches/with crackers all weekend last year. I guess I also had some nuts and granola bars and fruit. But my main meals were the lunchables and tuna.. it was so easy and they lasted in the cooler all weekend.
We'll eat our fair share of vendor nommies and non-perishables too. Just looking for a few ideas for our coleman stove. If I'm going to bring it, I want to actually use it

Last year, I made goulash, then portioned it out and froze it. Made several meals out of that and fed my neighbors too

Bacon and fried eggs are a great way to start the day. I also usually freeze some burgers and cook those up for dinners. I can usually get away with eating only one meal a day in centeroo, between headliner and late night...

Pasta Salad, the homemade stuff using italian dressing and some fresh cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, a little onion, some pepperoni slices, shredded cheese and some garden pasta, it is light enough to eat during the heat of the day where it won't sit heavy on your stomach and make you feel sick and it fills you up. plus the veggies plus the carbs and the proteins are good for ya especially in the atmosphere that is The Farm.
Uncrustables, bagelfuls, both kept very well in our cooler last year, as well of some fresh fruits, string cheese keeps well in a cooler as well.
We usually cook breakfast each morning, eggs and bacon. It's a great way to start the day with protein. I also usually take pre-made pasta salad, which is very refreshing in the heat. We also like hotdogs (boil in water on our camp stove) with Mac n cheese. We've cooked this on the stove as well but I think this year I'll just take some of those individual cups that you just add boiling water to.

very large amounts of mixed nuts and dry fruit i buy in bulk, canned shit, some brats and buns, and beer. a good six of beer can replace a meal any time.
Just eat inside centeroo. It is less of a hassle than starting a thread, talking about it, going to the store, packing it, unpacking it, and making it. Just go to a food truck and spend $9 for something more tasty or a few bucks on a slice or $1 on a grilled cheese

help a bonnanoob out - how accessible is ice on the farm?
its easy to get, but pretty expensive. i can't remember specific prices though.. maybe like $3.50 a bag? and it should be within like 200 yards from your camp, near any of the pod balloons.

we bring pepperoni rolls, hot dogs, sausage/bacon/eggs, and a 5 layer bean dip (beans, homemade guac, sour cream, cheese, tomatoes) and chips. i also like to drink an ice cold slimfast first thing in the morning.

Last year we did breakfast burritos etc.. This year NO cooking lol.. Whatever we do the cooking time was too much time. More sleep, dance and Thurman Murman time. Brats seem reasonable.

I think eating multiple times a day in Centeroo can be very expensive over the course of a weekend. Normally my crew brings a grill and we cook eggs one morning, some burgers or dogs for a couple of days. Last year we brought down some perch and made that for dinner one night. This year I am without my crew, and I am not bringing the grill. Packing a 6 pack of Clif Bars, some fruit (apples, oranges, bananas), beef jerky, bread and lunch meat, and some pasta salad. I'll probably eat 1 meal or an amish doughnut in centeroo a day. Without my normal group of friends I think I'm gonna be spending more time in Centeroo seeing shows and less time at the camp, and I really dont need the grill, or the time and hassle that goes with it.
