My 2 friends are seriously considering doing the onsite RV next year, but I am having a hard time with the cost of that vs. bringing one in, but all the logistics of doing that. Any words of advice for or against? UGH. Plus if we could have Access parking for an RV, I would much prefer to be closer to Centeroo...... The onsite's are not that close.
We did RV for the first time this year and camped in access. Our RV was a giant nightmare but the people we camped with and the location were perfect. You should easily find someone who camps in access who can adopt you if you offer them a chance to kick in on the RV
Yeah I am hoping someone will take me in, and I am happy to pay my share and do whatever to make it all work. Either that or get an access pass myself..... maybe for my asthma? I don't even know if I can get one for that, but it does limit my ability to walk far in the heat.

Oh if you make it happen, I'd like to be on the list to fill that RV

Hubby would kill me for talking about this already but we camp in access. The mileage from here is awful but we'd definitely be interested in meeting out there

I'm bumping this again, because I figure it's getting closer to time to book an RV for 2014. I have not done any research yet on picking one up in Nashville (and I may be too late at this point), but I would definitely like to go in with someone on an RV - preferably someone I know I also have 2 very financially responsible friends who would like to share - you all have probably met them.

I am still very much interested!
One day this week, I am going to run over to the RV place near my office and see what their pricing and availability is. Will keep you updated. I wonder if a smaller RV would be just the same price per person if we just had 4-5 people? I don't know if it's a better deal to get a bigger RV.

From my previous research, the smaller RVs aren't really much of a savings. At least with the large rental chains, anyway. I'd almost prefer the extra space, although I've never known anyone to have a problem filling an RV with people, especially with the # of roo friends we all have I could already have a +1, as well.

The only difference in the 4-5 designs are that the mileage can be a little better but since you're literally talking about ONE extra mile to the gallon it's really a wash.
One of the things we're considering this year is renting a pop up. Since I had to replace the minivan (with another minivan ) we had the dealer arrange to attach a hitch. We can't tow anything huge but a pop up that sleeps 4 and has air conditioning seems like it would fit the bill and the cost is so much less, $85 dollars a day with no mileage add ons which is our issue being 600 miles away.

Mmmm good point Kat... I have a hitch on my Element, although with my 4 cylinder engine, not sure how much I can tow lol!!

I have been following this thread from afar.
My wife is interested in Bonnaroo for 2014 (my son and I went in '13), and has two friends interested in joining us. She looked into RV's (not a tent camper, the wife), and said that Nashville and Knoxville were sold out. I think she was mostly checking Cruise America, though, so there may be some other options which are locally run.
Right now, I think we are set to drive an RV over from NC. Won't be good for mileage, but should be comfortable.
I'll miss my tent. But will not have to miss my wife.
I don't think you'll be able to rent anything to sleep in at 1500 pounds. Most of the ultralights seem to kick in at 2000 or more.
roro, where in NC are you driving from? I ask because most of the RV places only provide a minimal amount of miles and you'll have an overage.
We are driving from Winston-Salem. It's a long haul, but we took the mileage overage into account with our costs. I'd rather drive less, but I want to be there most of all.
I keep on seeing at least decent pop up campers and RVS for sale for under 3k when I look on craigslist. Wouldn't it just be pretty easy to buy one and resell it after Bonnaroo, or for a group that goes every year just to pitch in on a cheap one? I mean most of us do multiple festivals anyway, and it is not like you need anything real nice for that.
Does anyone have any reviews of the on-site RV rentals?
My friend did it in 2012 and had no issues with anything. There was always someone around to help if there were any problems, etc. It's just really pricey and you can only park one car at the RV
It's SO ridiculously pricey, but for some reason this year I'm actually considering it. Last year was so perfect weather wise that I fear there is some extreme heat in the cards for this year, therefore justifying a private AC fortress of solitude.

I want a torrential down pour the first day and everyday. It's not bonnaroo without major mud flinging
Re: the bathroom - I've heard it can stink up the entire RV if you use it for #2 throughout the fest. Is this true? Wouldn't that defeat the purpose of having an RV with a bathroom?
I've heard a lot of people say that is the case, and they only use for #1.
That was our policy for the 2 years I've RV'd out of 7 Roo's. Since the generator use is only 'free' to a certain point, if at all, the shiz will be baking in the heat just like the porta potties so we have a piss only rule. It worked out very well and we'll likely be doing the same thing this year.

I know I have a hard time justifying the cost of the on-site RV even though it's convenient as shiz. It's likely too late in the game too rent from anywhere in a reasonable distance from the farm so on-site might be your only bet at this point.
There's definitely an opportunity cost of gettting an RV though. What you gain in AC you lose in camaraderie and a little bit of the Roo spirit by not camping. It's just a different feel in the RV sections.
