of the living.. the only 4 people I feel can walk into any random room on any random beat and walk out with a classic are Andre, Jay, Kendrick, Kanye. I think they're just very versatile and don't need a specific style or flow and can really just adapt to what's there.
biggie probably, Tupac probably not. I can't imagine Pun getting on an Arca track and really laying waste.
black thought and push to me both really just need to stay in a certain groove to be good. like push couldn't do 808s or TPAB, BT doesn't have the elasticity of Andre or Jay, Jay who specifically moves from hot producer to hot producer w ease, while roots were more formulaic
Black Thought is the most underrated of all time. He’s a rhyme machine.
An all time underrated rappers thread would be an interesting idea too. Black Thought definitely up there. Personally, it's KXNG Crooked for me. Dude is a fking genius with bars and he's flow is so smooth. And he doesn't get nearly enough recognition.

Im not really sure about the roots being formulaic. Do You Want More was bordering on Jazz rap. Illadelph and Things Fall Apart were both pretty far from that. Then they went a lot darker with Game Theory and Rising Down. How I Got over was a big time indie music blend at around the same time Kanye did that with mbdtf which doesnt get enough credit. And up to that point I feel like Black Thought got better and more versatile. Somewhere around Game Theory I think Black Thoughts “listen to me now” voice elevated.
Pusha T has unfortunately been pretty niche. Cant help how much of a fan I am. He just always been someone where I need to be alerted each time he does a verse. And Hell Hath is like my third favorite rap album all time.
that Earl thing was not a bit I think he's just so dense, prior to really throwing everything in a trash compactor for Some Rap Songs and FoC, but Doris/IDLS/OF stuff he's just a bar machine

Finally fully drinking in this Andre verse on the song that Kanye ruined and stole from us. Really amazing and it definitely reminds me of his true best verse of all time - Da Art pt 1. Curious to know if anyone can name an Andre verse they think is better than that one.
