Fine Dr. Joe! Stop yelling at me. Us northerners who live far from the hills of Tennessee like to camp, too!
Inforoo Campout: Northeast Edition
2013
Last year we chose a weekend in September and camped out at the American Legion (Austin Hawes) Campground in Barkhamsted, CT (Northwest CT- Litchfield County). It ended up being a stormy weekend (read: tornado warnings and constant worried texts from LD) which blocked us from the normal hiking and swimming fun, but it made it a memorable weekend that I would never trade. Plus, we proved ourselves to be camping rock stars!
Last year our final roll call was short, but ohhhh so sweet: fawnmart, quacker, Katy Mae, mizvalentine, Levon and myself. MizV drove 7 hours!
Levon (left) pictured with now little brother, Garth (right). Gosh golly darn I love me some puppies!
So what's our plan for this year?
Date? If we keep to the September theme, I say the second or third weekend. I have Boston Calling the first weekend and a family wedding in Long Island the last.
Location? We chose last year's location (after lots of research by Katy Mae) for a few reasons. First of all, we decided on CT because it was geeeenerrally a centralized location and because corn is decriminalized. From there, we wanted a campground that wasn't state run (state run = no booze. HA! Funny.) and that was woodsy (wasn't site on top of site and there are things to do). All that being said, I support this location being used again. Of course, if someone has a new suggestion or if the attendees skew towards a different area...
So who is in? And where and when do they want to go??
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

The only weekend that I know I can't swing is the 3rd weekend. That's the womans birthday weekend, and I've got big plans! Plus, I'm sure you guys would love for her to come along right?
As far as where it's held, I'd just like to make it convenient for everybody! MizV will still probably be the farthest seeing as she's closer to Ohio. The only places inbetween Pitt and Northwest CT are New York, New Jersey, and the rest of PA. We definitely still need to find a non-state run campground haha, and I don't think anyone will argue that. Corn being an OK is certainly a plus, but I'm not too familiar with NJ's and NY's laws regarding corn. Honestly though, as long as it's a weekend I can swing, I'll do my best to make it happen! Everyone involved seems really nice and I'd love to finally meet some more Inforoosters in person!
NJ is tough on corn for the northeast. But New York is very easy on it. You can have up to a quarter pound of corn without any serious repercussions in NY. Plus NY is bigger and has a much larger selection of campgrounds.
I'm down for NY state, but unless we stay to the bottom few counties, we're probably getting even further for MizV? I know noooothing about NY state as I rarely venture that way. Anyone have suggestions?
So let's say second weekend possibly? We can have dueling campouts! We can Facetime

Just looked at a map. Anything below 90 seems the same or closer for Jordan. Of course, as we go further out Rhode Islanders/Bostonians/BFE Connecticans will end up with crazy drives. So we need to keep it all in mind.
EDIT: How is camping in PA? Should it be considered? Perhaps, we should think about western CT (after looking at a map, Barkhamsted is not as far east as I thought), southern NY state (is there a term for that nub?) and perhaps northeastern PA (Scranton would be 4.5-5 for RI/Boston)

I'm too busy to review it too carefully, but good call on the Catskills! Doing some more googling, if anyone from western PA or further is going to go, this should be the furthest north/ east that we go. We should really hear more about PA...

Hmm, I wouldn't think they would allow you to purchase it from the street, tax free and have a script to free you from any criminal charges. Maybe they are still waiting for the growers and dispensaries to go through all the proper channels and get up and running.

A quick Google search shows it isn't cheap to get started up.
For producers, the department would require an application fee of $25,000, an additional $75,000 if accepted, plus a $2 million bond payable to the state if the producer falls behind on quotas. In addition, producers must have all marijuana tested, even if there is no testing facility available in the state

Since I'm not eleven I'm going to say "weed."
Weed isn't handled the same everywhere in NY. In NYC they don't give a sh*t about it because if cops wrote people up for smoking weed that would literally be the only thing they ever do. Ironically, I just walked past 4 kids on a stoop getting high.
Upstate (and "downstate" as Orange, Rockland and Westchester are now apparently called) handles weed differently. You will 100% get a ticket, sizable fine and you will have to show up in court some day in the future. They'll drop it to something else usually, though.
At NYS Parks they have zero tolerance and if you're loud at night (which, no offense people, you will most likely be), the rangers will sneak by and if they smell something they'll bust you. Happened to me, happened to my brother (who was a NYS park ranger for 6 years).
My point is: don't pick a location because you think you won't get in trouble there.

Solid point. The boroughs are not the same for sure. BUT it is worth it to take it all in consideration. Not so much "won't get in trouble" but less likely.
For example, in college I went to a state run campground in RI with my sister and a few of our friends. It was an extreeemely tame evening. We only had a few drinks each, were quiet and went to bed early. We wake up to a ranger tapping on our tent at 3 AM. He was walking by and saw a bottle of vodka sitting out. He made us dump it out and said that we have to be out by 6 AM and couldn't be back for a full calendar year. Never again!
Flanzo, are you thinking about camping with us this year?

Calling people who use the term corn 11 year old's was meant to be helpful? Huh. I thanked you for your otherwise helpful information.
Are you familiar with the term condescending?
You may not like me Flanz, but I'm not an idiot. Don't act like you weren't being a doosh on purpose. Now lets calm down with the name calling and be grown ups. k? If you're just going to start an argument, you know where my inbox is. Otherwise, I'd say civility is the way to go here.

Stop lecturing me, child.
I have a dislike for the "corn" bullsh*t that predates your existence on this board, I'm sorry to say not everything is about you. But you decided to take my light-hearted "grow up, kiddies" comment as an excuse to be obnoxious.
And you're right, I don't like you, but over the past couple of weeks I haven't said one negative thing towards you, have I? No, I haven't, because I don't go out of my way to be mean to anyone on the board with the exception of Jess, who has never shied from voicing his genuine dislike for me. If you haven't noticed yet, every time I rip on you it's when you instigate it.
Sorry I didn't take your thankfulness at face value, saying thank you after being a prick is rather hollow in my experience.

So you're mad that I couldn't differentiate between you being... you, and you being "light hearted"? Sorry Flanz, but light hearted isn't really your style most of the time, so pardon me. Either way though, I did use the word corn in this thread, and you did call all of us 11 year olds. It's not like I responded by freaking out, or calling you names or anything. I just pointed out the obvious flaw in what seemed to be a personal attack on a few people. Rather than calling me a dipsh*t, maybe a simple "I was joking, relax" comment would have sufficed. It's pretty ignorant to post the way you do 99% of the time, and then to freak out when people aren't aware your joking. This is the internet. I can't see you or hear you. Just keep that in mind. Oh, and the "child" thing has gone far enough. There's nothing more childish than resorting to name calling, so lets avoid the hypocritical mess it creates.
For the record Flanz, I like you. I bet your a teddy bear in person. I'm just not a fan of your antagonizing internet persona.
