Hiya gang. Let's talk about music award shows.
This year's Grammy Awards are being held on Sunday Jan 26, and somewhat amazingly the nomination season for 2013 is almost over (Sept 30).
Also, Sunday Aug 25th is the MTV Video Music Awards, which is a telecast in which Daft Punk will perform for the first time in 6 years and some other stuff will happen.

List of presenters that have been confirmed:[6] One Direction
I'll be missing this to see Marc Anthony. Kind of weird he's not on the Latino list since he's had the #1 longest running Salsa song in history this year.
EDIT: But not to anyone else obviously. How can you NOT love a style of music that also doubles as a delicious treat?
I feel so old when looking at that list of nominees.
Really? I think this is just regular mainstream, it doesn't skew too young.
Well I obviously know about the big names (Kanye, JT, Beyonce, Gaga, Taylor Swift) but I just feel old because I don't recognize a lot of the others. I tend to avoid most mainstream pop stuff because I don't listen to the radio and tend not to watch/follow MTV. I recognize a bunch of names but don't know much about them and didn't realize they were this big.
Some names I know of/read but have not listened to anything: Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, Ed Sheeran, Calvin Harris, One Direction, Duck Sauce
Then there's a few names (especially on the artists to watch) that are totally new to me.

Step your game up ITM.
(I presume you've heard of at least the other two artists to watch)
You've never heard of Calvin Harris? He's been around for a while now...
And he's been on some festival lineups these past few years.
Recognize the name but couldn't tell you if I've heard any of his music. Which is why he's in the list of "Some names I know of/read but have not listened to anything".
He's pretty standard frat house basement music. I wouldn't recommend you listen to him. But if you decide to, you're better off checking out his first two albums - "I created Disco" and "Ready for the Weekend"
His current stuff is good too, hipster. I'd recommend you listen to his track with Rihanna ITM. Great pop song.

Taylor Swift Mashes Four Years of Rage Into Delicious Fruit Jam
Remember four years ago when something happened to photogenic millionaire Taylor Swift while she was accepting a fake award at a ceremony held by a channel that exists to market cell phones to teenagers? Taylor Swift remembers too. It's the first thing she thinks about when she rolls out of bed and the last thing she pictures before she falls asleep. Her life is an endless carousel of misery, circling 'round and 'round that single moment. Every day she wakes up and discovers it is September 14, 2009; every day is the day after Kanye West's bizarre outburst ensured that the 2009 VMAs would forever be remembered as one of Taylor Swift's Top Four Worst VMAs Ever.
YOUR ASS BETTER CALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL SOMEBODY!
Well well well...what have we here? Has my favorite little group of basement-dwelling, dirt-worshipping, hair-farming MUMFORD SUPERFAN shut-ins finally develop a little taste and class? Now we're talking TALENT, BABY. Just looking at the MTV Awards list gives Ol' Capp Lion a semi! Living legends like Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars, One Direction! Hot young up and comers like Ed Sheeran, Austin Mahone, and Zedd! And of course, the GROUNDBREAKING REUNION of Fallout Boy! Now this is how you build a Bonnaroo lineup, folks. You know how many tickets I could move with T-Swift shaking her can up on stage for a couple hours? This chick sings like she was struck in the head with a crowbar as a teenager and stuck in a state of perma-adolescence, but godd&mned if the kids don't eat her up!
I'm just glad to see you useless hemp monkeys are finally coming to your senses. I figured that when San Cappistrano here rolled out his latest MONEYGRABBING MATERPIECE in February I'd have to put up with the usual grumblings from the sweaty old folks who call themselves Bonnaroo diehards. "Oh, but this lineup doesn't have enough jammy jamz, wah wah wah, it's lost the Bonnaroo spirit just the way I've lost all sense of dignity and self-worth," or "what happened to the VIBEZ man I can't find them just like I can't find decent employment because of my insistence on wearing patchwork pants to a job interview," that sort of thing. Truth be told, I wasn't all that bothered, folks! Every one of the pasty, lumpy, misshapen old burnouts who defects to Waka or Bear Creek or some other little sh*tbird festival just creates more space for all the hot, taut young folks who now want to flock to the farm each summer for their yearly dose of grown men in vests and fedoras, clanking tekno sounds, and rap songs about fur coats! But if you goblins have all decided to get on board the PARTY TRAIN and get down to the sweet sounds of popular culture, we might be able to squeeze you creatures in somewhere off the highway. Keep you sequestered from the beautiful people, but I'm sure you'll be able to hear fun. ROCKING THEIR D*CKS OFF on the main stage from your pen over in BFE.
Come on guys, I know it's the off season but VMA talk? Really?
I'll be watching. It's fun. I love the awards season.
I can't stand them most of the time. The only one I pay any attention to is the Grammy's and I would rather watch Big Bang Theory reruns than the Grammy's. I will check to see who won the next day, but that normally just involves me getting mad at the Americana nominations and then getting confused on what the fuck a new artist is according to them.
They do have a chance to redeem themselves this year by giving Jason Isbell the win.
At the end of the day my feelings on the Grammy's can be summarized by this: Neil Young has ONE musical Grammy every and it is from the single from LeNoise.
