It's supposedly at least 70k, for these shows, from a photog friend that knows. Just what I heard. I'm in for the mail order. I think the turnaround will be quick on letting you know if you get tix, and, I believe that a lot of the younger crowd won't mess with mailing X amt. of money orders. My buddy just told me stubhub has them listed $300-3000 already. ????
I fully admit I could be completely wrong, but I don't have the 100% confidence y'all have that it will be an instant sell out.
That's understandable. I might be underestimating the amount of people soldier field can hold.
it also might just be that i am lazy, and super busy over the next two days so getting the money orders etc. would be kind of a pain in the ass, and i'm trying to convince myself i don't need to.
there are just so many variables that go into the demand for these shows:
Arguments for a quick sell out:
-Last dead shows ever, supposedly -Great centralized location, easy for any midwestern/eastern/southern fans to travel to -The deadhead fanbase is international and huge, even the many who ignored post-jerry dead incarnations may make it happen just because its the final shows -Just about all Phish fans are dead fans, so that is a whole other fanbase that is excited about the show -Lot of randoms in Chicago who aren't even heads may show up just for the experience -Hotel prices are sometimes a good indicator of demand, and they have quickly risen since the announcement -When Phish by themselves play chicago, they sell 30,000 tickets to northerly island.
Arguments against a quick sell out:
-large venue, its been a while since the dead have played stadiums. In fact Furthur mostly played theaters. -Over a holiday weekend, many aging heads have families and can't ditch them for a run of shows -Not all dead fans are phish fans, in fact for many there is an outright distaste for phish, so the idea of trey in the jerry spot is a turn off -Current scalper tickets for the nosebleed seats are just north of $200, which based on my observations over the past several years shows low confidence in a quick sell out. Pre onsale tickets are usually more inflated than that. -Random anecdotal which may or may not be bullshit: some guy in the phish subreddit has a client who is a chicago ticket broker, and the broker's feeling is getting tickets day of show will be no problem if you are willing to pay just slightly over face.
I've spent time since the announcement perusing various dead and phish message boards and gauging reaction to the solider field announcement. Generally most of the mania is with the phish fans, the reaction there is very positive, and I'd say MOST phish phans anticipate the ticket being difficult, though there is still a chunk that are claiming tickets will be on the ground. The reaction from dead fans is more negative, they don't like trey in the jerry spot, etc.
For me personally, as primarily a Phish fan, trey in the jerry spot is what is pushing me to go to the shows. I love the Dead but have never seen them live in any incarnation, unless you count Phil & Friends. If it was just Warren or Herring in the Jerry spot I'd be way less interested.
Of course all this is just meaningless analysis on my part. I probably won't do mail order and come online presale/TM public onsale we'll know if demand is truly going to be crazy.

So since Fare thee well came out as an event, I've been listening to the studio albums to get ready! It had been years since I listened to the studio albums.
So far I've listened to
Built to last In the dark Aoxomoxoa Blues for Allah Workingman's Dead Anthem of the sun American beauty Go to Heaven Shakedown street
Am I the only one who really enjoys both in the dark and built to last? Both are among my favorites of their albums. They aren't the albums I would recommend to casual fans and both took me several spins to really get into. but now I love them,

In terms of Dead studio records I find I only care about American Beauty and Workingmans Dead, which I know are the two most common answers.

I know someone in Chicago who claimed to have seen 3 day passes on Saturday. I doubt it, but I didn't call them out. None of my business. This was one day after the announcement and 4 days before the snail mail sale. I mean there could be legit tickets out there, I guess. I know what the website said about tickets before Feb, 12. Don't get burned people.

I doubt any hard tickets are out there yet, but my understanding is soldier field club level season ticket holders have first right of refusal on all events at soldier field. While these season ticket holders are club level, the tickets they receive for other events are not necessarily club level, they are just wherever. This could account for some of the tickets you see on broker sites right now.
In other news I have accepted the fact that this will be a difficult ticket. Still not doing mail order, but will try for the online presale and public onsale. If I don't get tickets I'm not sweating it. My wife still wants to go to Chicago that weekend since we have never been and got a nice hotel. Might pop into the lot Sunday and see if there are any extras, but otherwise I really don't want to play the aftermarket game. Got burned for the first time on a bad stubhub ticket at Paul McCartney in October. Stubhub were pros and made it right, but it still makes me nervous.

postjack, that very likely the case. That or Personal Seat License holders. J agree it will be a very difficult ticket and have no intention of paying 3× face value or more for tickets. I doubt u per level is less than $200 once it sells out. Especially for Sunday, the only day I can attend.
Sending may mail order out today for general admission pit for sat and sun. Keeping my fingers crossed.
My friends and I sent a total of four packages out, with each one for tickets for each of us. If more than one of us lucks out, we all decided to sell them at face, I can't stand ridiculous ticket price gouging. Also, I had my six year old niece color my envelope, my thinking is they'll ekther be like "aw a child! They need a ticket!" Or "aw, a mentally handicapped man!"

If I don't get any and you end up with extras for Sunday, let me know! I will gladly help buy them off you! My order was for two for Sunday reserved or gen admission if necessary.
Hi guys What is your respective feel on how hard it will be to get two tickets for any one of the three Chicago shows via the online pre-sale? Thanks!
I am treating this as the most difficult ticket i have attempted to score in my entire life. Past or future. I will have multiple people on multiple computers attempting to access the site until someone does. Yes i know this kind of behavior is what causes the site to crash. I am only available sunday so that complicates matters. Friday and Saturday should be a little easier if you request those initially.

If you do end up with extras, there are quite a few of us here trying for tickets for each night, so please let us know if you have extras. We would definitely appreciate face value so we don't have to deal with stupid prices above our budget. I am sure not all of us will get what we want from mail order

I am really thinking they are going to be almost impossible to get..... And I am normally a very optimistic person..... There is a huge audience for these shows, and Chicago is so easily accessible. People will drive or fly a long way for these shows.
I am literally scouring my house for possessions to sell off to finance this expedition. I have never wanted a ticket so badly in my life (well, excepting ABB's last Beacon run). I might end up standing in the parking lot. I am not young and cute enough anymore to sleep with anyone for tickets (not that I would), so "I need a miracle"!!!!!!!! LOL
When do these fuckers go on sale online? I can't go, but I would not mind trying for a ticket and sell at face to someone that wants to go. Or is my doing that taking it away from someone else?

I'm confused. Would I be helping or hurting?
You'd be helping those on Inforoo, but (possibly) hurting those outside of it imo. There's a possibility you might prevent someone outside of Inforoo from a face value ticket, but there's also the possibility you stopped a scalper from picking up the ticket to sell at inflated prices.

The Dead played two nights at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont IL last tour and that place seats 18500.

Druid go for it. If you can get through and get tickets to pass on at face value then go right on ahead. The scalpels are gonna be all over this one, regardless of what you do. You are right that their servers can only handle so many people. I hope they will be purchasing extra capacity for what they know will be a strong run at tickets. I would rather someone get through that's going to set up a friend at face value than a scalper.

I really really really hope I can get a ticket at face for either Fri or Sat. Can someone tell me if the presale on the 12th is for fan club members or some other exclusive deal?
