The song is awesome. Best way I can describe it is like a mash-up of "Emotional Rescue" and "Enjoy the Silence" over a relentless disco beat. Hope there is a radio edit so AF can have a mainstream breakthrough.
The word is it'll be a double album, but only 13 songs. Therefore, lots of extended tracks like Reflektor.
The director of Big Day Out said last month AF wants to do a stadium tour of North America, no festivals, which sucks for Bonnaroo, but we'll see.
I love Arcade Fire, but those are going to be some pretty empty stadiums.
I love it. Top five favorite Arcade Fire songs already. I'd really love to see this live, especially if the whole album is this dance-y and jammed out. I bet there will be a bunch of collaborations on the album. Hangout/Bonnaroo shared headliner.

I dig the track, but I have talked to a lot of friends who have mixed feelings about it. I think most like it, but feel that AF isnt making the AF music that we have all grown to love. This song is too simple for Arcade Fire, they arent making something that leaves us in awe...they are essentially falling into place with the likes of the "Get Lucky" crowd. Maybe it's their push towards a mainstream breakout? Personally I like it, but I can see where my friends displeasures are coming from.....They have a lot to live up to with this LP and hopefully it all pans out.
My two cents.
This is kind of a stupid assessment of the song. While the style of the song is slightly different than AF's past works, it still contains many aspects of Arcade Fire's sound. Most notably lush strings and horns.

I think calling this a stupid assessment is a little harsh (and unnecessary). I think their reason behind this is the fact that it is simple music to make compared to what they have been making....they feel that the band is better than this. It has a basic 150 BPM tempo to it and feels kind of thoughtless. Also, "Lush strings and horns" is a bit of a stretch....
Again, all I was doing was bringing some feedback to the table that is honest and from real fans who have been following these guys from day 1, just like most of you Im sure.

Obviously I know nothing about the rest of the album, but Reflektor (the song) is going to be so sick live. I'm usually one of the most vocal about not "recycling" headliners every few years but damn, I would welcome this back in a heartbeat.

Hoping to maybe somehow entice young, hip viewers into watching its late-night weekend programming, NBC will air a 30-minute Arcade Fire concert special this fall. There’s a catch, of course: The special follows the band’s appearance on the season premiere of Saturday Night Live on Sept. 28, meaning it will kick off at 1 a.m. EST, denying the world the glory of insurance-related infomercials for one harsh half hour. Oh well. There’s always DVR.
Arcade Fire’s new record, Reflektor, is out Oct. 29 on Merge.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go on an overnight drunk, and in 10 days I'm going to set out to find the shark that ate my friend and destroy it. Anyone who wants to tag along is more than welcome.
WTF I have some crappy infomercial on. comcast guide says the special doesnt start for another 30min.
glad I read your post. right after SNL was a program entitled "Discover Your Destiny". "From Harvest Community Church in Mobile, Ala, viewers are invited for biblical teachings to help people determine their purpose and destiny in life."
Anyway I assumed in this case the South did not win, but I checked further down the guide and the Arcade Fire special comes on at 2am. DVR set.
OT, I'm a huge SNL fan, and thought tonight was an awesome episode. Way better than a lot of episodes last season. Definitely better then the season premiere last season, which was terrible.
Really hope to catch Arcade Fire live in the next year. I think Reflektor is awesome. Like most Arcade Fire songs I'm not super impressed on the first listen, but it slowly gets its poison in me and by the fourth or fifth spin I'm hooked.
David Fricke gave the new album 4.5 stars, said its their best yet.
Just finished watching, since I fell asleep at 10pm last night & missed it live. Love, love, love the new songs, especially the three that were played on the special. Loved the Salsatheque. Loved all the cameos too, especially Michael Cera. I am so very excited about this album, probably the most excited I've been about an album in a long time. October is going to be the best month ever!! Now I'm going to watch it again.
Those SNL performances disappointed me. I feel like the vocals and guitars were not loud enough and that the keyboard was put onto "boring synth" mode.
The concert special redeemed everything and restored my excitement for the album. If only for the enthusiastic choreographed crowd.

We were talking about it in chat while we were watching it. SNL shows have a tendency to sound sh*tty for whatever reason. I agree the special sounded way better.
Finally got around to watching the Reflektor video on Vevo. Like it the 80's vibe of the sound. Would fit right in on one of classic The The albums....
Agree with the sentiments that these songs are a tad better than Reflektor. That being said, my expectations for this album are surging through the roof.

To me this new album is already saying: "We've proven ourselves to the point where everybody knows us and we've made some money, so let's hire some Haitian hand drummers and throw a dance party. If it goes wrong, we'll play Wake Up."
