So veterans, how much spending cash should I set aside for Coachella? Like for food/drinks (not excessive alcohol but one or two drinks each night maybe), a little merch and whatever.

Even though it's one day less, I bring the same amount I bring for Bonnaroo, ~$250/person.
This all goes out the window if you decide to blow cash on a super sweet Emek poster ($$$$$). That said, be sure to check out the merch tent to the right of all the regular band merch, they have cool/cute and artsy stuff in there along with the swaggy posters.

That's what I figured but everyone's always crying about how Coachella is soooo much more expensive than Roo so I wanted to make sure. I tend to not eat much in the heat anyway so my in-festival spending is mostly merch and frozen lemonade.

Coachella doesn't let you bring any snacks into the concert venue and the security is a lot tighter at the gate, so maybe people that smuggle food/booze/etc into other fests find it more spendy.
The bottled water is $2, they have free filtered water stations. While the food is slightly more expensive, the quality is better (kind of like eating at the food trucks vs. Joe's Arepa Stand). I can't speak much on the drinks because I don't drink at festivals and beer gardens impinge upon my music viewing. The frozen lemonades are addictive, but not pricey.
On the frozen lemonade front, be sure you're buying Freshers! They will change your life (maybe not, but they're way better than the Minute Maid variety):

Just looking at the pic makes my mouth water. I have a really unhealthy addiction to citrus drinks. Also, I prefer to spend a few dollars more for better food that will make me feel satisfied. And I did see that they have Spicy Pie so, yeah.

My mouth is also watering but it's because of those locks of hair under that visor.

Lineup is looking even better after looking at Roo's
Agreed. I initially thought that Coachella dropped the ball this year but now I really do think it's just a down year overall. Bonnaroo is a snorefest.
Just comparing the two fests, the only acts Bonnaroo got that I'd be jealous of are Slayer, Tears for Fears, the Very Best, Pallbearer, Iceage, MadGibbs.
Meanwhile, the acts Coachella got that I'd want are Tame Impala, Steely Dan, Ride, Rae & Ghost, Todd Terje, Hot Natured, Squarepusher, Gorgon City, Kele, Eagulls, Jon Hopkins, Ryan Hemsworth, Ratatat, Father John Misty, Gaslamp Killer Experience, Tale of Us, Duke Dumont, Panda Bear, Built to Spill, JESS, Guy Gerber, John Talabot, Annie Mac, and Sloan.
Coachella is still lacking for me this year, but thus far it's better than the other options.

It's all personal opinion. I'll be at both. But, I saw the Roo schedule in Coach format last night and, for me, Bonnaroo wins. Plus, there's quite a few additions still to come.
2013~Bonnaroo, Gentlemen of the Road-Troy 2014~McDowell Mountain, Beale Street, Bonnaroo, Riot Fest 2015~Coachella 1, Bonnaroo 2016~Summer Camp, Bonnaroo, Live on the Green, Pilgrimage 2017~Bonnaroo, Live on the Green, Pilgrimage 2018~Bonnaroo
"During times of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act" 2019~BROKE 2020~M'fking COVID 2021~ditto 2022~tbd

Cool, that kind of answers my question from the other thread. Wasn't sure which acts were the ones you specifically were talking about as Roo missing out on. I don't know half of those names but I trust in your music taste to believe they're all good acts live.

Today I learned that Juggs likes Sloan. This pleases me.
Will you guys please write a detailed review of John Talabot for me when you get back? I get things worked up in my head that I think would sound amazing live and that it is high on the list.
(John Talabot was on my write in for Roo, even though I knew it wouldn't happen.)

Here's a couple short videos from his FYF set (from someone else) in the meantime

How essential is a locker? Like what would be stored in it that couldn't be stored in your festi-bag? Blanket? Hoodie/Jacket? I'm trying to figure out my plans.

I had one last year and it was clutch if you don't like carrying stuff around. We used it for hoodies and sunscreen mostly. It was easy to get to and cheap. Plus I liked the idea of having a charging station if need be.
It's not essential but a nice have if you have a full schedule.

If you get cold then you might want to nab one. It gets much colder there at night than Roo. On the other hand, they're stingier about bringing in snacks and what not, so other than sweatshirts or sunscreen you won't be bringing in all that much crap that you won't want with you all day.

Charging station? Did you just leave a battery pack or do they have outlets? Explain to the noob! I've never gotten a locker at a festival.

I am a big fan of the lockers at Coachella because I like to bundle up there at night (unlike roo, which is constantly hot as balls). It's nice to be able to stash extra warm clothes and a change of shoes, and especially good for storing merch (the fancy posters come in ridiculously large tubes) OR any contraband you are lucky enough to sneak in on day 1.
They also have a changing tent available, if you don't want to disrobe publicly or in a portapotty
Also, the lockers sell out pretty early every year, so if you're considering renting one you should probably do it within the next month or so.

And on that note, my next noob question! Tell me about average high and low temps at Coachella. I'll pretty much be wearing my festival standards during the day but I know the desert gets cold at night just not sure how cold.

It can get VERY cold at night, especially with the valley winds. I was shivering in 2013 and I can normally tolerate cold temps really well. I came better prepared in 2014.
Highs during the day are like 90 maybe but it doesn't feel bad at all cause there's no humidity. I've honestly never felt "hot" at Coachella before.
