I don't like the new update. The icons are creepy and I don't understand why they're necessary. Because they're not. I wish I wouldn't have updated it.
Note: at first they didn't bother me at all. It was just a new feature that I assumed noted who you talk to the most. Which is somewhat true but the explanations of all of them are just weird to me.

Hmm I'll have to check if I have an update available. Not even really sure how to do it. Mine updated a few days ago and I have the stupid "Needs Love" thing (which it would suggest Inforooers on Selfie Friday when I already sent them multiple that day? #badlogarithm), but don't have icons or low light.

from personal experience... it's not snapchat that makes your significant other shady, it's the fact they were already shady.

Whenever I click the update button it just opens the app. I am so old right now.
Do you have an iPhone? My phone has been doing this with all apps for a while. I don't even have a working "update all" option anymore, it's always like grayed out. I have to select each individual app from the list, go to its own screen, the hold down the "update" button till it either starts or prompts me for my Apple ID password. It's really annoying.

I do! I have an iPhone 5. I had to do exactly what you said and it worked, I'm a little disappointed I don't have more icons in my friend list. It must not take "My Story" into account, which is what I use 90% of the time.
Either way, glad it's not an AGE issue but some sort of whacky phone issue instead

If you have your setting to have them automatically update they will be. I don't like that. I want to make sure that I am on wifi when my shit is updating.

I've had to click on the update in the past. My update options have been looking the way Monie described lately. I just haven't took any interest into checking that the updates have been put into effect since the few apps I use have been doing what I expect them too. I've got all kinds of updating to do now.
I think mine automatically updated, but I don't see these emojis. I'm the dumbest of them all
And I say that I think it auto-updated because when I go to see my updates, it isn't listed there. And even when I search for it individually, the only option is "open," not "update."
