You're not going to find many psych-rock records better than this from this century:
Goat - Commune
-I really like Syro, but, much like the new Caribou, I've listened to Commune so many times, that's it pretty much part of my DNA at this point. -Perfume Genius is really great at times, but it gets way less interesting at the end. -Mr. Twin Sister is the best soundtrack ever for making dinner. -Thom Yorke really hit a sweet spot for me. The Mother Lode, y'all. (I've been misspelling that all my life)
-I love that King Tuff and all it's glammy, rocking glory. (I went to his show last night and it was fun as sh*t)
I'm really looking forward to the month ahead. Caribou and Iceage are already my top contenders. (Seriously, if you haven't heard Iceage yet, it's going to blow you away. There not the same punk band anymore)
I agree with just about all of this. Goat gets the nod from me as well
My vote has to go to SMD's Whorl. Much different than every other SMD record and I love that. Unfortunately the runner-ups were just as excellent. Thanks for contending: 2. ODESZA - In Return 3. Alt-j - This Is All Yours 4. Goat - Commune Preatures, Mr Twin Sister, DFA1979, etc, etc
Really enjoyed Syro and Prince's solo albums, but this album has grown on me and is my favorite at this point. I could see myself liking Prince more by the time the year ends.
There were so many fun albums this month. Not classics, but fun and solid.
Prince's Art Official Age SMD Aphex Twin Ryan Adams GOAT Perfume Genius Mr Twin Sister
All nice releases that have a shot for EOY lists.
Alt-J and King Tuff were solid but not as big a home run for me as their predecessor.
All that said, this is the album I went back to over and over this month. Pretty compositions, little touches in each piece and a real ear for detail on the entire package make this my winner.
That is what I would use as a quick reference. I did a quick run through and found 16 albums that I need to listen to this month.
Yes, I do use metacritic as well as Allmusic, but Tom always does a great job of getting everything together in one spot.
This thread needs a hip hop head though to clue us in the recent releases. I know it's been a down year, but we rarely seem discuss hip Hop's new albums.
