For each Bonnaroo lover that has come to Tennessee and spent lots of money or for all the Tennessee citizens that are members please I beg you to take action today!!!
If you haven't already about Senate Bill 2566 then basically entitles any PERSON, BUSINESS or RELIGIOUS ORGANIZATION to refuse services and goods only if it furthers a civil union, domestic partnership, or same-sex marriage.
Also we are trying to get #StopSB2566 trending on Twitter and Facebook so please use it. We want to show the Tennessee Senators that they can not just quietly vote this discriminatory bill in to existence.
THEY VOTE TODAY FEBRUARY 18TH - WE NEED CALLS MADE BEFORE NOON BUT THEY VOTE LATER THIS AFTERNOON.
We hope that we can have just as big of an effect as #SB5 and #StandwithWendy worked to stop the bill in Texas last year.

Yup. The gist of it is that the bill is supposed to be about the "protection of religious freedoms" whereas you, as a business owner, would not be forced by the threat of lawsuits into doing business with the LGBT community when it conflicts with your religious beliefs. The example they like to trot out is a wedding photographer in New Mexico (I think) who refused to take pictures of a gay couple's civil union ceremony and was subsequently sued by the couple for discrimination. Sounds great, right? Protect the poor small businessman from having his freedoms trampled cause this is America. In practice, it would legitimize businesses to basically create a new era of segregation in Tennessee and furthers a mindboggling obsession that some Tennessee lawmakers have with the LGBT community and how bills dealing with that community take up a majority of their time rather than tackling things like, I don't know, the above average amount of children that live in poverty in our state or our continuing presence in the bottom 5 in education standards. Needless to say, I am really happy with how this makes us look on the national stage. Kansas had a similar bill up that just got shot down recently.

Tennessee is generally a wonderful example of how you can use social issues as a smokescreen to where people don't look at more important issues. Off the top of my head, there was also a bill put forth that would ban the teaching of anything but heterosexuality in sex ed classes (the Don't Say Gay Bill) and another that would have excused harassment toward LGBT youth in schools as long as it was based on the offending student's religious beliefs. I don't know if you have ever read the Bible, but apparently, Jesus was a big fan of beating people up and stuffing them in lockers.

It's right there in the scripture. But I thought part of religious freedom was originally set to keep church and state separate, not to use state to enforce religious belief. I'm probably wrong, I don't know very much about these things, besides what feel right, and what feels completely fucked!

I already sent an email to my state representative and senator.
I informed them I believe that this bill not only hurts the state by casting a negative light on us, but it is also not conservative. It's social engineering from the right.
If they support this law, I will not vote for them in reelection.
Please understand, not all Tennesseeans are gay hating hillbillies or rednecks. I may be a redneck, but I've got nothing against homosexuality. I'm not homosexual, so it makes no difference to me.

Yes it almost passed in Kansas but the media brought attention to it A LOT SOONER than they have here in TN! So we need to get the message out! If anything like I said get that hashtag trending. We know the implications of social media. I also posted this in the Bonnaroo reddit page too so if you are reddit then find me Latinachica26 and move my post up!!

Tennessee gets a bad image from the people in power. The state senator representing Knoxville, Stacey Campfield believes homosexulaity is a choice and that HIV cannot be transmitted through heterosexual intercourse. Google him, you will find a lot of things.

If you live in TN, please use: “Senator Overbey, my name is ____________________, and I live at ____________________. Please, vote NO on Senate Bill 2566. Yup. The federal government would have to step in if something like that ever got passed, there's just no way they can let something like that go down, it'd be a powder keg waiting to be ignited.

Fuck politicians, work for the people my ass. How can people be this fucking dense in 2014, I understand it's the south and Tennessee is extremely religious but I'm glad there are those down there who are in touch with reality and live in the now.
Mississippi would have one of these bills if our governor wasn't too busy trying to put God in our state seal. We're last in education and last in just about everything. It's a shame. Just let people love who they want to love. Politicians need to stay out of everyone's bedroom because none of us want to go into theirs.

Flanzo is right(never thought I would say that). The law would not stand up to federal scrutiny.
Businesses enjoy free speech protection, why shouldn't they have freedom of religion? Should a small business owner be forced to provide birth control to his employees if it violates his religious beliefs? The answer of course is yes, but unfortunately I can't take anything as a given until the Supreme Court finally decides on it.
