I need help with Thursday night... Literally no idea who to see after 8 pm. Planning to catch Jonathan Wilson and probably ZZ Ward during the day - she's a big hit with my Roo crew. But starting with Cloud Nothings I am clueless on what to see.
I don't care for Pusha T, Polica, or Cherub but other than those, I'm in need of recommendations! Where do I begin?
Ty Segall. If you disagree, please delete your account.

Yes. I feel like I'm verging on pushy salesman level, but nobody should miss Ty Segall. Especially because he is mostly unopposed. This will by far be the best show on Thursday.

I am really looking forward to j. Roddy and the business. To me they sound kinda like Dr. Dog with a bit more overdrive, a little more raw, less polish. I'm also torn because white denim is great and overlaps their set. Their show two years ago blew me away and I'm looking forward to seeing them again. Rock n roll and a bit of psychedelic style, though not "weird." And Ty segall has been rec'd to me tons, tho Im not fully versed in his catalog.

I don't know many acts on thurs either, however I have seen MS MR twice, and both times they were amazing. That two piece duo is full of energy, impressive vocals, and their set balance will make you a fan: they have a wide range of material. I'll probably be at real estate, but don't miss out on MS MR if you are a synth pop fan. White denim is going to surprise everyone. They sound like black keys, but then they sound like an old school rock band, they are versatile. I'm really pumped for their set. Banks definitely has me curious, but I'll probably be at break science to keep up with the group. Cloud nothings seem like something I would dig, so when I spotify binge them, I'll see how I feel. Highly recommend The Preatures, they'll surprise some people. If you like Haim, don't miss this band, they could be big later in the year with an undeniably catchy tune called "Is this how you feel?." I have no reason to not see Ty Segall since he is unopposed and right next door to white denim, that'll be a great way to close out the week.
I do not recommend J Roddy Walston and the Business. I saw them open for Manchester Orchestra in Jan, and they were boring. The front man doesn't really interact with the crowd. His vocals aren't that great, and their best song "Heavy Bells" is better on record than live. SKIP THEM. I don't know where the surge of curiousity about them is coming from, maybe they'll be better at Roo, but I've been to a mess ton of shows, and they don't make the cut.
I can't believe I missed all the excitement of the schedule leak. But don't you worry. I got the link and I have a plan.... ish. It's kinda just a jumbled mess right now actually. I need like 4 of me to see everything I want to see.
I still haven't heard anythin' from J Roddy & the Business that really grabs me.
MS MR's album blows my mind so I'm stoked fer that set. And White Denim will be awful (actually jawsome, I just want the show to be less crowded)!
J Roddy and the Business are one of the best live bands I've heard. Their studio albums are exactly the opposite. They, in my opinion, are very dull and don't capture a fraction of the energy of the live shows. I would definitely suggest checking them out if you have an opportunity. If J Roddy doesn't manage to fall off his piano seat, you get your money back

Looking forward to J. Roddy & the Business. I went out to iTunes to check out more music from them, and stumbled upon "Don't Break The Needle." Nice song. Next song I picked, at random for a sample was "Marigold." I had to do a double-take to make sure I had changed songs. The two snippets fit together perfectly. I think they are a bit more than "3-chords and a cloud of dust," but in those tunes, it's the same three chords, in the same order, with the same break (in the sample, anyway).
Despite that oddity, I think they are going to be a fun show.
Interesting question that I don't think has yet been discussed (I tried to do a cursory search): We love to complain about how Thursday night always has one act that draws way too many people to one tent at a time. I've been the past two years, and these acts were Alabama Shakes and Alt-J.
If the schedule we've all been looking at for the past few days is accurate, who is that act this year? I like to think I'm pretty in tune with which acts will be big draws, but is there someone there that's just way more popular than I know? Cloud Nothings and maybe Real Estate seem like the biggest bands playing Thursday evening. I heard a whisper that Banks might be well attended, but I've got nothing to back that up.
Edit: White Denim is also awesome, but will they pack a tent? Their tent wasn't jammed in 2012, if I recall.
TL;DR: Who is the Thursday "headliner" that will have a suffocatingly packed tent?
Real Estate is no Alt-J in terms of "mainstream" popularity. I am excited about the lack of a "big name" on Thursday. I have 6 shows on the schedule that I am looking to attend, and hopefully I can get a reasonable spot for all of them. Walking from Father John Misty last year and realizing that I was gonna have to stand at the fountain to watch Alt-J was disappointing.
Pusha T has crowded potential just because he's been a part of the most famous songs from Thursday by a mile.
Yeah Runaway is definitely the most famous song from Thursday, I think his set will be really crowded, he's had a ton of popular songs. I hope he does these in particular

Pusha T or Ty Segall i think are the big draws for Thursday. Pusha T is going to be a good show tho. Has anyone checked out Thao and the Get Downs? They're pretty good and before Cloud Nothings, I'm there for sure.

and as far as pusha's set goes its a shame that he doesn't go the route big boi did when he toured solo. If he threw together a nice setlist incorporating a few clipse medleys along with his solo and kanye stuff... whew throw in a backing band and this is now my number one show.
The way it looks to be from setlist fm though its just another solid act on the bill for me. I'd be happy to see one of my favorite rappers from the last ten years do his job, but he won't be doing much of what gave him that title imo at this show. White denim is a threat.

Man Thursday is just filled with acts I'm like eeehhh i guess about which sucks, theres no artists besides Pusha and Cloud Nothings I'm really excited for. Last year i was so pumped and excited to see Japandroids and Alt-J. Two of my favorite shows of last year.

James Blake is way too high on the lineup but for some reason I could picture it. Die Antwoord or Capital cities (still an upgrade to tent from lounge or whatever) would have made sense.
For all this time I've been confusing Broken Bells with Sleigh Bells (who I don't care for). Glad I found out that it's actually James Mercer and Danger Mouse. Now I'm thoroughly looking forward to Sunday. =)

I know I'm late on this band in general, but just gave Cut Copy a serious listen and am in love with them, so glad i was already planning on having a good spot at Chromeo, now I'm more excited for Cut Copy

I really want to see james blake but chromeo/cut copy is too good to pass up. That pair is going to be incredible.

I wonder how much of the Cage The Elephant crowd is going to stay for Chromeo
