So...first time at Roo and really the first time camping/setting up by myself. I've got a borrowed tent and an ezup for setup. I sort of put the tent up inside my house by myself actually, so I made sure I had all the stuff. However what I'm really getting at is I've got some stress going on that I'm going to get there and not have a clue as to what I'm doing and need help (physically from other people). From the vibe of these boards I'm hoping people would help if I asked and offered a free beer in exchange Thoughts?
Ask your neighbors for some help them offer them a beer for their service. You'll probably only need to ask one person and they'll help you right out. I've had great luck in 7 years being near good people. This will also help you get to know them and you can keep eyes out on each others camp sites. Don't stress, it will be great.

I asked some neighbors.. they were too busy being stoned to help. Actually told me no way. Punks. so, no chorizo and egg burritos in the morning for them. Other neighbors were cool so they ate and drank like kings.
Just ask a neighbor. Last year I put my camp up by myself except that I am 5'-0" tall so I needed help with he ez up. Asked my neighbor and they were kind enough to help.
My first Roo I didn't know how to set up anything. I wasn't able to set up my shade tent, I was about to put it back in my car and my neighbors said I would die without it and helped me out. Everyone I've ever asked for help has helped.
I've heard a lot of ppl complain about their tent stakes that came with their tent. So, I always tell ppl to buy a good set of those, a tarp or two and some bungee cords =D

I went to academy sports last year the week of roo and bought what was labeled "tent kit" for $10. It amazingly had some cheap tent stakes and a mallet, some rope, and a few other things. All items were actually used last year. I didn't use a tent, just an EZ up, but the state came in hand for that. Even if they were cheap ones. And tarps were decently priced there. I wish I would have gotten a third smaller tarp, but made fine without it.
Most people you'll be camping near are pretty cool from my 3 years of experience, just ask nicely. I've had people offer me help setting up every year, in turn, I try to offer help to others out.

Pretty true. We all jumped out and starting setting stuff up. The kids beside us (I say kids bc at the time I was 28 and they were probably 19 max) had never put together a tent before and had one of the biggest tents I'd ever seen. After a few people almost losing an eye, people were offering to help them. The struggle was real. They stayed gone most of the day so those around their campsite looked out for their stuff, too. Once, the wind almost blew their tent away so we put all of their heavy camping stuff in their tent and left a note explaining.
If you don't make friendly with the people around you, your experience will still be great, but not as great as it could be.

Just like everyone has said so far, ask your neighbors. First thing I usually do when I get outta the car is go introduce myself to those around me. Befriending your neighbors can help in a lot of ways. And in my experience, not only can you get some aid in your set up, but your neighbors might even cede some space to you depending on their plans. That's happened to me twice.

Also to add to this --- important to find out who around you has jumper cables, and who doesn't. I jumped 4 people last year bc younger kids didn't realize to either 1) start their vehicle periodically 2) unplug you car charger when not in use or 3) interior lights were left on accidentally from all that unpacking.

Tent stakes are important! Especialy for the EZ Up. Every year I have ever gone to Roo I have seen at least 2 EZ Up's cartwheeling in the wind over other peoples camps and often breaking and smashing stuff on its way through. It's really not too cool.

Don't get discouraged if you forget something or don't know how to do something. I've had some real a-hole neighbors the lst two years, but everyone else around us was super nice. If someone won't help you or is rude, that's fine, just ask someone else and I guarantee you'll get whatever you need. I agree with everyone else here that most of the people you'll meet at Roo - the overwhelming majority - are friendly and just want to have a good time.
I've never brought a tarp for under the tent and I've never felt I missed out not having one. My tarps used to go around my EZ Up for shade, but now I have some very handy reflective sidewalls.
And those tent stakes are a must for both the EZ Up and the tent. I've never had any trouble with the cheap ones that are included.

Have you been during one of the years where the rain came? Thats really when a tarp under will come in handy.

Yeah. I slept through many a thunderstorm including the one of Monday morning at Roo in '13. I had the shade canopy up and it left me with dry ground underneath my camping area. I could see the tarp under the tent being a major want without the EZ Up. If nothing else, a person could use the collected rain water on the tarp to rinse mud off of their feet before entering the tent. I recently had a small hole poked into the bottom of my Coleman so this may change my outlook if I wake up to puddles inside my tent the next time I use it and it rains.

Haha fuzz! I'm sorry to hear that. Unfortunately, the other big reason to tarp under a tent is a cheap yet solid layer of protection between the boat liner of the tent and the rocks, sticks etc.,
We ended up camping in Family Camping last year and it was great (minus our tent being in the middle of a major cut thru between campgrounds) everyone was so nice to help us put up the tent and I gave everyone a nice cold beer for their efforts. Had the best time ever! Not sure if I'll be able to be back for 2015 but hopefully 2016!!
I've never put a tarp under my tent either and have never had an issue. I actually tried it onece and found it to be more trouble than it was worth. The only time I ever wish I had was at All Good 2012 when we camped in a mowed down corn field and the stalks kept poking through the bottom of our tent. I had to put duct tape over all the holes.

Does ANYONE at all have a tent/ tent spot for me?? I'm comjng alone this year haven't been in 8 whole years and I've never gone alone. Definitely don't mind going alone, but I DO need a tent/tent share from a kind soul. I'm bringing a canopy and extra food/ drinks for whoever. More than willing to share with whomever is in need.

How drunk do you plan on getting, and how much does your decision making suffer under such conditions?
Sorry, couldn't resist. I will likely have space for one non-weirdo, but even a flimsy little $20 dome tent is fine if you put it under one side of your canopy. And a canopy is probably even more essential at Roo than a tent, so you're already on the right track.

Go to the Camping World website and order you some awning repair tape. Sticks like hell, and is water proof. Also maybe try Gorilla tape?

Yeah.... I don't think I'm bringing a tent... Car worst scenario sticking with the canopy and some bed sheets for privacy. Bringing some stakes to keep it secure . As for decision making, that really depends on the alcohol completely!! I can't just drink a shit load and still always make the best decisions.... But I'm sure not a "sloppy drunk" more like a fun drunk turned party girl when I drink. I never cry or fight- never. So I really hope there are no buzz kill drinkers around me!! Ha. Although, I only plan to drink at night so I don't get dehydrated ... Drinking plenty of water, just playing it safe.

Haha yeah, I was kidding for some of that but it sounds like you are actually pretty well prepared.

Son, I can spot sarcasm like white on rice.... It's like my first language ;-) I go thc the first round, although sometimes I find I'm quick with my replies.... But, I hope I come across a fine stranger danger like yourself at Roo & wish you the best year yet!!! You may message me-- ANYONE may message me for my Roo cell ( 2nd cell) whoever wants to stop by my camping area or go see a show together, grill some meat, have a smoke or midnight toke, i also love to hear jokes!!
And I rhyme at times;; but I think I'm pretty cool. ;-)
