I actually love the stage setup. I know people are complaining about the view for the floor section....but that honestly looks like the funnest place to be. It'll be a unique experience for sure. I'm also sure it'll be very chaotic, which makes me even more excited. The whole setup seems like something I would have imagined as a kid
True, it'll be unique for sure. Also we won't sweat getting there early to get super close either.
Pretty happy I didn't get floor seats for the show in Columbus.
Haha, right?? We splurged and got floor seats and I'm feeling kind of torn about it now.
We're five rows off the floor, so I feel good with that. I'm sure the floor would be fun, but looking at the videos, my first thought was that I'm too old for that.

I'm most likely older than you, and I'm gonna make that shit work. I'll be the old lady in the sea of youngins.

That's quite possible. Lately, I feel like having a toddler has aged me about 20 years.

I'm so curious about the logistics of this stage. Like, how did he "appear" at the start? Will there be no encores? Will he just be standing up there when it ends? What if he needs a drink? LOL
I'm really enjoying seeing these small clips, but not knowing the exact setlist or what the intro is exactly going to be like. There was no way I was going to keep this a complete surprise.

There are a few Pablo tracks I would have cut out of the set. (and no Waves? wtf.) But great setlist overall and I think it'll be even more impressive when it includes the tracks written down that didn't make it in.
Ticketmaster sent me a notice today - Only 30 Days until your Kanye West show. See you there!
I didn't realize last night that the stage floats around, which is pretty cool. I don't think you'll be able to post up in one spot unless you're along the edges, as the crowd appears to follow the stage around a good bit.
Finally got home from the show. It was kind of a mess but he played Devil In a New Dress and the production was awesome.
Where were you sitting/standing?
In the upper level near half court. You'll probably have a good view anywhere, but if you're on the floor don't worry about getting there early because your spot won't matter much.
Basically Kanye performs on two platforms suspended above the crowd, a small one to which he is harnessed to, and a bigger one he walks onto later in the show. The entire production moves around, and the small stage is often moving accross the floor. At the beggining of the show security tried to not let people stand under the floating stage out of fear it would fall I'm guessing, but a few songs in people said fuck it and rushed the middle. Security kept trying this with little success until Kanye stopped the show and said something like "security is fucking my show up, the whole idea is that people on the floor can go wherever they want" and at that point security said fuck it. The dynamic on the floor seemed to be that those right under the stage were drunk teenage boys moshing and as you got further out (where you can actually see kanye) it got more tame. Still there were times where it looked like the whole floor was going nuts. Best seats in the house are probably in the 100 lever for the view, absolutely the floor if you're trying to party. There's a big LED screen where the stage traditionally would be, with nothing particularly interesting on it, just video of the show with weird effects on it.
The performance felt like a first rehearsal though, obvious hiccups left and right. It'll probably get better as the tour goes along but I enjoyed his Bonnaroo set more tbh
I was in GA, I'll add onto what Whereispassionpit talked about. My girlfriend and I swore he didn't play FSMH Part 2, but maybe we're just not remembering correctly. I wished he would've taken out other Pablo songs and made room for Real Friends (he even sang the line "real friends, how many of us, how many of us are real friends" during his positivity rant), Waves, but especially Ultralight Beam. I was really mad he didn't play that but he played fucking Pop Style. As for transitions, it took him awhile to transition from Power to Wolves, not sure why maybe he just needed a break. I didn't think it was awkwardly long like I've been reading though. And then from Amazing to Runaway he actually transitioned off of the smaller stage onto the long strip of lights and stayed on there for the duration of the show until Only One, where he got back on the smaller stage for Fade before the show ended (without saying goodnight or anything, as whereispassionpit mentioned).
As for the setup, I added some pictures for reference. This
is what it looked like as we walked on the floor. The smaller stage near the LED board would be the stage he was on most of the concert, while the long strip of lights would be rise up above the smaller stage and light it up from above. When the concert started off, they turned off all of the lights, produced a lot of fog and Kanye got on a small lift with someone to help hook him up on the smaller stage while the large light strips rose up. Then the stage he was attached to went angled to face away from the LED Board while Kanye laid down, and slowly standing up and he sang FSMH Part 1 (pictured here ->
). As it made its way across the floor in a straight line, it would angle itself to a flat position before he played Famous. I felt like unless you were directly underneath the platform you could usually see Kanye, you didn't necessarily have to move all the time for a good sight line. However it was nice to be able to follow the stage sometimes if you wanted a great spot, or just chill back to breath. The only time I felt the small stage was bad was when he played Blood On The Leaves, he lowered the stage so he was closer to the fans and people tried to grab the stage and him and it created a really tight clusterfuck where no one could move (my girlfriend got a really good picture but I can't get it to load for some reason). Other than that it was great I thought.
Before Runaway, he transitioned from the smaller stage to the large strip of lights that originally was above him and that became the stage for almost the remainder of the concert. I have mixed feelings about that stage. It was great when he was on your side or you could see him (like so at the beginning of Runaway
) and that was when I felt it most necessary to move, unless you were okay just moshing underneath the lights like a lot of people did. I definitely liked the smaller stage better.
Finally, originally the website said the doors opened at 7pm, then when we got there they all said 7:30. Then we had to wait until right around 8:20 and the showed started at 9:20, going until about 11:30. I didn't look to see what kind of merch they had besides the orange shirts I'm sure you've seen pictures of by now, they look like the album cover. I'd be interested in seeing if I could get a cheap balcony ticket for one of the Chicago shows to see what everything looks like from afar. Bonus pic that I thought was pretty cool

My first thought was how much money he probably saved with this new stage setup, but then I remembered that the liability insurance required to do this probably more than makes up for it.
Yo stinky , where would you say is the best place on the floor to post up?
If you're not planning on moving around, when he's on the small stage I'd say it's better to be on the outside of the crowd as opposed to the middle, maybe the corners since he spent a decent amount of time there when the stage would stop.
When he's on the larger stage, it's a tougher call. If you stand on either side of the stage parallel to it you're going to have to accept you won't be able to see him when he's facing the other side of the crowd. For a couple of minutes we decided the best play was to stand where the baseline would be for the basketball courts and just move corner to corner so we could at least see him, while also getting the added benefit of him going to the corners every so often.
All of that being said, I think this show will be much more enjoyable if you're moving around to get better spots at times. We enjoyed taking short breaks on the opposite side where the stage would be, but moving around made for a better experience.
