Use this place to get advice on what band to listen to next, what album to listen to next, etc. This is mostly for my own benefit, but since we all enjoy learning about new music I thought that some of you might be into it too. This is also sort of in lieu of clouding Now Playing Dos with incessant writing. I'll start by copying, supplementing and editing a post I posted in random thoughts a week or so ago and only got one response to:
I've been sleeping on a few bands for a long time now and as I'm getting more and more into them I'd like your opinions on where I should go. I'm into going backwards through discographies, but sometimes I get advice to start in the middle somewhere, but I like to aggregate all the advice I get and make a better decision from there. It's a fun little game I like to play. So. Tell me what to do.
Black Moth Super Rainbow/Tobacco (Only listened to Cobra Juicy & Fucked Up Friends) Ty Segall (Only listened to Manipulator) White Denim (Only listened to Fits & D) Yo La Tengo (Only listened to I Am Not Afraid of You and I Will Beat Your Ass)

My favorite from Ty Segall is Slaughterhouse, though I know some people swear by Goodbye Bread.

Ty pretty much hasn't made a bad record. Must listens in my opinion are Slaughterhouse, Twins, Melted, and Goodbye Bread. Sleeper is also worth a listen because it is mostly acoustic, and maybe his most unique album. Also, check out his side projects. 'Hair' w/ White Fence is another must listen, and his other band Fuzz (they only have the one LP) is awesome as well, especially if you like Slaughterhouse and Melted. Yeah, Ty has been a busy dude for the last several years. I will say that Manipulator is my favorite, and is basically the culmination of all of his previous albums.
Yo La Tengo is another band that hasn't made a bad album in my eyes. I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One is considered their classic, and it is really good yet not my favorite. Others that I would recommend are Painful, And Nothing Turned Itself Inside Out, Summer Sun, and Popular Songs. I Am Not Afraid of You and I Will Beat Your Ass is probably my favorite, and I actually need to listen to their newest one, Fade.
Black Moth Super Rainbow's Dandelion Gum is the about the only one I ever listen to. They are a great band, but I don't know enough about the rest of their albums to give a decent opinion.
I'm in the same boat as you on White Denim, although I liked them a whole lot better live than I did on record.
White Denim just can't come close to capturing their live magic on record.
Slaughterhouse really wails, but as a record tapers off at the end has a total disregard for songcraft. Still better than 99% stuff out there. It seems like everybody praised the hell out of Ty for capturing everything he's good at on Manipulator, but he already did that on Twins. It just doesn't have all the bells and whistles. Really though, everything Redman listed is awesome, except Sleeper, which is pure shit. Also check out the Singles collection.
Can anybody tell me more about the L.I.E.S. music label? I hear they are at the forefront of the electronic noise trend, which is something I really like, but I don't know where to start.

Yo la tengo could take weeks to fully digest. Their sound is all over from album to album and even track to track. I really like I am not afraid you... but I think I like and nothing turned itself inside out the best. But you cant really go wrong, their discography is excellent for the most part.
Edit:I replied from the "recent posts" and wasn't aware youd already gotten much more thorough responses.
If you like Ty Segall, you pretty much have to check out Thee Oh Sees. Also see Sic Alps.
Also, my favourite music discovery of this year has been Pavement, a band I hesd about, but slept on for far too long.
have you listened to any of stephen malkmus and the jicks? they put out wigout at jagbags this year, which I quite like. I also enjoy really emotional trash.

I forgot about that one, I remember liking it, but can't place it.
I've been keeping up with new releases obsessively the past two years now. There is a huge difference in hip hop releases this year in comparison to last, and I find myself listening to Pusha T, Kendrick, Clear Soul Forces, Run the Jewels ect, quite frequently, but feel I'm In need of somthing new. Unfortunately this year has been shit for hip hop (until RTJ2 comes out). Give me some suggestions for some great hip hop releases I may know know about from the last 5 years or so that I probay do t know about.

Honestly, Melted, Slaughterhouse, Twins, and Manipulator are all kinda interchangeable for me. Manipulator is my current fave simply because I've listened to it so much recently and it is his longest record. I will say that the Slaughterhouse songs have been the best moments of his live show every time I have seen them.
But no love for Sleeper? I actually really like that record, although it doesn't compare to the other stuff. Especially live, the difference between a sleeper set and a normal Ty set is like the difference between looking at a batch of mushies and eating them.

This guy speaks my language.
Decaanter to sum up everybody's posts, it's in your best interest to listen to everything Ty Segall related and lots of it.
This has all been wildly helpful on all accounts, everyone! I've aggregated everyone's advice based on most mentioned and highest praise given. Starting on Ty Segall right now.
Anyone know of some small, portable, good quality speaker(s) that hook up to an ipod or the like that might not be too expensive? I borrowed this tiny cylindrical speaker my roommate has the other night and walking around with music playing out of my backpack reminded me of how awesome walking around with a soundtrack is. I just really don't like wearing headphones while I'm walking around because I can't be as aware of my surroundings as I would like to be. Also having in-case-of-emergency speakers are always beneficial.

The battery last forever and it's stupidly easy to use. Plus it has an aux-in port in case you can't pair something via bluetooth for whatever reason. And it fits in the palm of my hand so it will probably fit wherever you want to keep it.
Jambox is the gold standard for bluetooth speakers but it's at least twice the price.
I have a FoxlV2 from Soundmatters, and have enjoyed it for nearly 3 years now. I know when I bought mine, the Foxl and the Jambox were virtually the same (with most people giving the SQ nod to the Foxl). Foxl actually licensed their technology to Jawbone (Jambox). No idea how similar both companies newer products are though.

Shadowlust is good. Here is a link to some artists on the label.
Alright, next round of album suggestions. I'm still only just starting on what ya'll mentioned from earlier, but working through Caribou, Black Moth Super Rainbow, Ty Segall, Yo La Tengo, and White Denim is gonna take me a minute, so I might as well add to my list. So. I've only ever listened to a few Explosions in the Sky albums and saw them live at Lollapalooza a few years ago and was appropriately blown away and thoroughly enjoyed everything I listened to. But, I've only listened to All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone, Take Care Take Care Take Care and the Prince Avalanche OST. Granted, I've listened to All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone so many times in the past six years. I have a few of their other albums on my computer that my older brother sent me many years ago (The Earth is Not a Cold Death Place, How Strange, Innocence, The Rescue & Those Who Tell The Truth Shall Die, Those Who Tell The Truth Shall Live Forever). Does anyone have any recommendation of preferred listening order, should I just pick one and go, or should I go reverse chronological order? Or should I stop asking you people what to do and just make a decision? So many questions. So much goddamn time to have them answered.
I've only ever listened to Dr. Dog's Shame Shame and Fate. Love 'em both. Have for years. Seeing them for the fourth time (I keep catching them at festivals) in February with PHOX. Where do I go next?
