I'd love it, honestly. I dig Tool but I thought their 2007 set was a goddamn snoozefest.
Why do you consider it a snoozefest? Tool has never had much variety in their setlists post Lateralus (one of my biggest complaints of their live show). But how often do you get Tom Morello up there for a guitar solo during Lateralus?
That was my 5th time seeing them that tour cycle, and it was just as good if not better then the previous shows I saw of theirs that tour.
I'm a casual Tool fan and had not seen really any shows with that level of production and lasers and junk until that point and that definitely influenced my opinion. It was my first Tool show so if that was a snoozefest I'd be really excited for a "great" show.
Imo what sets a Tool show apart from others is how invested Maynard is in that moment. The rest of the band are pretty much always on. It just depends whether Maynard is going to go for it and leave it all out on the stage. You can tell when it just seems he's ready to get off the stage and be done with it.
I seem to remember an active and engaged Maynard for their roo set.

Right with you on this, I've seen em 4 or 5 times, don't even recall at this point, but the show is basically the same, change a song or two. Still some awesome stuff when they get goin up there
I find it hard to believe it was a snoozefest, they haven't had much variety in their stage show in the past 7 years as far as lights/lasers go. I'm sure it was an awesome show, plus morrello showing up. sploosh
Yes, I know that shiny lights and LAZERZ make all the difference in the world, but I was bored out of my skull.
It's probably because they relied so heavily on 10,000 Days and I legit can't stand that album. The stuff from Lateralus and Aenema sounded great. I just kept wishing that they would pick up the goddamn tempo through the entire middle of the show.

rosetta stoned is an awesome song, if you've never read the lyrics, it's a must (although i'm sure everybody who has commented on this post knows that)

God, I could talk about Tool 2007 all day. I was right behind the pit on the left side and it blew my mind. Before the show started, they were testing Justin Chancellor's bass and it rattled my chest. The whole crowd cheered just at the bass sound check.
Maynard was engaged the whole time. They played a longer show than almost any other of that tour. And Tom Morello. The only down part for me would have been Flood. But that was Undertow material, not 10,000 Days. Everything from 10,000 Days sounded great. But I love that album as much as Aenima and Lateralus so maybe I'm not the most reliable source.

I think that album is awesome as well, for what its worth
Their 2007 set was masterful. I loved talking to people the morning after who had no idea what to expect from Tool. I think the only "negative" I heard was the visuals were to intense for one person and they had to just lay down and listen.
you very may well have been talking to me. i spent the first half of their set lying down staring at the stars. and don't regret it at all.
I was an avid Tool fan from '93 to whenever that last album came out. I haven't seen them live since '02. I think my hate of 10,000 Days (and my indifference towards the swarms of douchebags that began to make up the majority of their fanbase during the Lateralus tour) has subsided. I'm ready to see them again.

You are easily becoming my least favorite new poster.

"New poster."
And sorry, what can I say? I didn't like 10,000 Days, so a set which leaned heavily on that album wasn't my cup of tea. I found it boring, and no amount of visual distractions was going to change that for me.
This is just happening? yikes, mustn't be around much
To be fair, I'm "new."
I wish I knew more about this, i believe i was only briefly here during the juggs time period, and not even a member at the time. you may be my least favorite poster, but i don't hate you. i also find some of it quite entertaining
if you ever agree with me and tell me i'm right or something, i will be very worried and we will send a swat team to your house to make sure you're not being held hostage by the inforoo mods
I agree with you guys that Tool is awesome. When I saw them in 2002 I felt like my brain was going to come pouring out of my ears. I just wasn't as impressed by the 2007 Bonnaroo set because I really didn't care for the album which they featured so heavily during that show.

I saw them 6 times between 01-07 and the 10,000 days shows were definitely not as good.
