I still can't understand this whole idea. What is the real reason they are doing this?
Ummm, to sell an album for $5M... I do honestly get it as a stand against music downloading and streaming devaluing albums. “Things have value when they are rare,” RZA explained. “Artists are rare people in our world.”
I also think legacy was a key factor and the air of mystery will do more to cement Wu-Tang's legendary status than a (likely under-appreciated) new album would.

They say in the article that the group feels that young people today feel entitlement towards music, and that the whole point of this is to respect music as an artform with monetary value.

Most importantly I think the air of mystery will do more to cement Wu-Tang's legendary status than a (likely under-appreciated) new album would.
If they succeed and someone actually does pay $5M, then I think this is genius.
What will be more interesting to watch over time is how soon, if ever, will the public hear the album. If the buyer truly holds it under raps for 88 years, will there be anyone in the world left that will even know about it, and care to hear it?
The only reason to buy the album is that you hope it will increase in value over time. In my opinion, I can't see how it could possibly increase in value in five years. Will the demand for this item of pure nostalgic value be worth more in five years? Ten years?
People with $5M to spend do not just throw it away. They invest their money.

Oh wow I just saw Inventions is releasing an album this month too. They're an Explosions in the Sky side project. The single they released in January is really great
Final February Tally. Despite a late charge by the unheralded Susanne Sundfør, Father John Misty takes the cake. I was a little flexible with the two votes that came between the deadline and my (s)explanation why I hadn't tallied yet. They did not affect any placement anyway.
I find out about all my new music through this thread. I mean, sure, I will check out different sites for reviews and ratings, but ultimately I just listen to the ones y'all suggest and vote for

Same.
Other people seem to have a better hold on what's new, I just wait for the discussion and votes here. Which means I listen to like 10-12 albums in three days trying to pick the best of the bunch.
