Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
Someone on the Coachella boars was also trying to astroturf a "#SandersSunday" and have everyone wear Bernie gear. Not sure there's gonna be much participation next weekend.
Unless Sanders opens for Calvin Harris and shoots molly water out of a hose, I doubt there will be any participation.
Before my rambling, I still have a Weekend 2 wristband and shuttle pass for sale if anyone needs one. You get the whole crazy Coachella box-o-stuff too of course.
Wrote this for my crew, posting here too in case anyone is interested. Going Weekend 2 again, will be my second Coachella. Always my favorite lineup every year, the logistics and cost from the East Coast make it a challenge but it worked out this year again.
My schedules are always a realm of possibilities, I may end up at something not even highlighted depending on where the wind blows me. Then there is Despacio I am sure to check out many times not even listed on this schedule.
Friday One of the greatest all day festival runs for me personally. And I say this without a clear idea of how I will finish the night.
Hopefully we can get there early. A couple of interesting bands I would love to check out. DJ EZ is the first blue, but more because of a reputation and my first ever opportunity. And a couple other interesting ones (Mbongwana Star's African influences, and Sheer Mag, a big fat female lead singer doing punk).
Then it gets crazy.
Robert DeLong (always a great dance party) split with Sam Feldt (zero idea how they would be overall, but love "show me love").
Bob Moses (don't know much of the music, but been drawn to this act for awhile)
Lord Huron (a personal favorite, blown away by them as my first act of my first day of my first and only other Coachella in 2013)
Then the "triple lindy" (anybody remember 'Back to School' with Rodney Dangerfield?) 3 ridiculously rare acts back to back. Can't see all of each, but thrilled to get the opportunity for all.
2manydjs (the Soulwax guys doing a DJ set, so unbelievably pumped that this ended up in the Sahara with all its glorious production!)
St. Germain (first album in like 10 years, live jazzy techno)
Underworld (again, loving this in the Sahara. Trippy ass live dance show. And beautiful that after checking out St. Germain for awhile I will be able to get back to a good spot in the Sahara since they are up against ASAP Rocky and M83 and it won't be crowded). Does suck to miss M83, Borns, Of Monsters and Men, and Black Coffee playing during this same section, but that's Coachella.
Tough decision slot. Last half of Sasha (though he was only mediocre in DC Sunday night), Sufjan Stevens (I don't really listen to him, but way rare and way respected). Two other good bands as well. Oh my, if Sasha and Digweed end up playing a set together somewhere I will absolutely lose my shit. Would become my #1, the most magical of all DJ collaborations.
Parov Stelar looks like a very fun time, but don't know the different looking music yet. Should get a chance to see Ellie Goulding in 'the RLRS spot' at Roo (she has some truly wonderful pop songs), but will head over to her if Parvov isn't doing it.
Jack U is an insane dance party, Skrillex and Diplo together. Saw only their 4th show together last year at Hangout. This is going to be crowded AF, possibly the most crowded Outdoor stage set ever. I don't care what people say about him, I have seen Skrillex like 12+ times now in all different venues, festivals, size crowds (starting with a small one at Ultra 2010), and with other collaborators. He is ALWAYS insanely fun. Outstanding again at Okeechobee last month. And I will never forget him on the beach at Hangout last year, one of the best dance experiences of the many in my life. The crowding at this show is a big worry though, gotta be able to dance!
Lemaitre looks insanely good. Check this link out below. Will definitely catch the last half, possibly more if Jack U is too crowded.
I truly do not know how I will close out the night. Coachella appears to be trying to throw everything into LCD Soundsystem (They should really be reversing this slot with Jack U in my opinion). Doesn't have an obvious band pulling away from them, so it could be a much bigger crowd than it would be otherwise though. I didn't at all get into LCD during the few songs I saw of them at a previous Bonnaroo and Virgin Music Festival, and haven't really gotten much into them on album. Want to save LCD for Roo and 'the RLRS spot' since I will be forced into it there, but perhaps I will see them here since Coachella is where they are most revered. Or Purity Ring has been fun the 3 or 4 times I've seen them too (good again at Buku last month). Knowing me I will probably end up at the surprise in the Do Lab if it is a good one. Or Lucent Dossier Experience in the Sahara (usually that crazy act only plays in the Do Lab). Even if I spent the last hour of Friday starting at one of the art pieces, it is going to be one for the record books.
Saturday Works out into a half and half thing for me. Afternoon is a bunch of brand new untested (and barely known) stuff that could either be outstanding or mediocre. Evening is tried, tested, and true beauty...and some very tough conflicts.
Gogo penguin looks like some jazzy techno fun. Then a bunch of very interesting looking electronic acts all grouped together, Vanic, Mr. Carmack, Cloves, Black Madonna, and the Funk Hunters (check out their 'Do this for you" track with Chali 2na from Jurassic 5.) Can always rock out to Gary Clark Jr. again if the electronic isn't doing it.
Matoma was a ton of fun in the silent disco at Roo last year. So love his Notorious BIG remix "Old thing Back". Run the Jewels is quality hip hop if needed (saw them like 3 times last year) or DJ Premier might be worth checking out too. I would have been more psyched for Matthew Dear, but he was mediocre at best in DC a few months back when I finally saw him for the first time.
DJ Koze has huge potential in the Yuma, been wanting to groove to this for awhile. Rough time slot overall though, if he isn't working then the different San Holo, Aluna George, or outstanding laid back but rocking Courtney Barnett might work again (great early at a Firefly one year). Possibly even yet another CHVRCHES try. I really like a few of their songs, but though seeing some of them for the 3rd time at Buku this year was better, they still just don't really get "there" live. (Her cuteness does go a long way though).
Then Disclosure at the Main all the way. Will be very interesting to see how these guys translate to the big stage, a very fun dance party. A little bit of Halsey on the Outdoor afterwards. Poppy, but she does appear to have talent from what little I have heard. Only way to know is to try.
Now it gets really tough. Skipped Ice Cube at Roo for greener pastures (even though I love "Today was a good day" like everyone else). But the lure of an NWA reunion is strong. Not that I am at all a fan, simply a once in a lifetime opportunity. Warren G makes no sense in this same time slot since they are exactly the same everything as Ice Cube, Coachella should absolutely move him to literally anywhere else the entire day or weekend. A true travesty. Zedd is where I will probably end up dancing most. Say Zedd is cheesy all you want, he is an excellent dance party live. One of best shows at Tomorrowworld, and loved going crazy to his set at Roo with Sam Bradford (yes the quarterback, and slapping 5's with him after it was over). But I also want to check out Rufus Du Sol, so who knows how it will go down. (Even missing Snails and Paper Diamond, both of whom have been great at Moonrise and other shows. And though not even highlighted on my schedule, at another festival I wouldn't mind ending up at Silversun Pickups or Nina Kraviz either. Though it is mostly between two of Zedd and Rufus, in many ways this is my first ever 8 way conflict)
I will do either Grimes or Zhu next. Grimes was good at my other Coachella, even though crowded AF in the small tent. Will jump to the Zhu dance party if too crowded again. Then I need to decide on doing the nostalgia thing or not. The first half of Guns and Roses set doesn't interest me. But November Rain with an orchestra, Patience, Don't Cry, and Knockin on Heavens Door could be great live even though I was only a passing GnR fan growing up. Dubfire or RL Grime could both be money yet again though (many times over the years). And a good surprise guest in the Do Lab could always pull me away to finish the night too. Won't know until it all happens.
Sunday Slow start to the day for me personally. But ends up having the hardest to navigate conflicts of the festival. Going to be a brilliant way to close out Coachella whatever I decide.
Gets going at 2:30. Claptone Live should be very interesting (good again at Buku, just like Tomorrowworld). Can always duck over to Nathaniel Rateliff if needed, but should catch him at a few other festivals this year. Will be game time decision as to when to jump over to Kamasi Washington, not normally into jazz but this is simply something on a different plane and I missed him at Okeechobee. Joywave was fantastic at Hangout last year (had never heard of them before), will get there at some point.
Then a little relaxation for once in my festival life. But will jam out to Hudson Mohawke.
Crystal Fighters will probably win next, though the Baauer dance party (Harlem Shake at his set Coachella 2013 was a hell of an eruption!) or the surprise guest could pull me away.
Next comes clusterfuck, a true 6 way conflict. Really want to try out Chris Stapleton, the one country badass act (sorta this years Sturgill Simpson). But will have a few other opportunities at other festivals. John Digweed is a trance legend, but seems much more techno these days. Though again, if Sasha may join him I am all over it. Tchami and Edward Sharpe are both very fun live (completely different than each other). Melody's Echo Chamber has a big buzz behind them from music snobs. And Major Lazer is again a huge dance party, Diplo can make you move. So much fun every time I have seen them in the many, the best probably being Coachella a few years ago. Even though it was insanely packed, EVERYONE taking off their shirts, spinning them, and throwing them in the air was quite the experience. (Their chilled out "Get Free" was my favorite track released in 2013 or whatever).
50-50 shot next. I personally really like the Chainsmokers even though they can also get the cheesy dance label. Very fun every time I have seen them. But it will be way packed in the Sahara here, and I will see them at a bunch of other festivals this year. So may just choose to chill out to Beach House on the Outdoor.
Which will make it easy to stumble over to Sia, one of my highlights of this year. Very rare to catch, been on my radar for a long time. She has written some outstanding songs overall. But most importantly I need to FINALLY catch 'Elastic Heart' live (my favorite release of 2014 or whenever, probably one of my favorite songs of all time really. Takes center stage on so many of my DJ mixes.). It won't be the Diplo and Weeknd version, but I still absolutely love that track (and can't believe I have never heard a DJ spin it out).
Now we get back into serious conflict territory. Flume was sooo surprisingly good at Bonnaroo, and dance music almost always wins for me live. Miike Snow had been wonderful the 2 or 3 times I had seen them previously (their early Thursday Roo set many years ago was outstanding, before I had ever heard of them). But they were very mediocre at Buku this year, I was shocked and couldn't stick around even though I love a lot of their tracks. KSMR and Nosaj Thing could both be awesome too, or even yet another surprise in the Do lab. But it will really come down to the impossible decision between Maceo Plex and Calvin Harris. Maceo was ridiculously good in DC a few months ago. Tech house is not my genre, but a good friend has been spinning it exclusively and Plex is the master. Calvin will have other opportunities to be seen again, but this is the first time EDM has headlined Coachella. Being there for these things is big (like Deadmau5 on the What Stage was at Roo, and Skrilles on the Which Stage), and he also has a fun party (regardless of those again calling him cheesy). He had the largest ever crowd in Coachella history a few years back, so this show being packed is something that may turn me off though. Might end up just being a trial and error night, will go where the wind blows me as always.
Before my rambling, I still have a Weekend 2 wristband and shuttle pass for sale if anyone needs one. You get the whole crazy Coachella box-o-stuff too of course.

This is the best thing ever:
It’s easy to dismiss the bloated eccentricities of the Use Your Illusion trilogy as nothing but nonsense from a feral jackass with a temper and millions of major-label dollars to burn. But it’s more than that. It’s an outlandish last gasp from a genre desperately clinging to relevance. It’s a precursor, for better or worse, to the flash and bang of Michael Bay. It’s what happens when a tortured soul gets to blow up his therapy revelations into widescreen phantasmagorias. It’s not as smart as it think it is, but smarter than most people give it credit for. And it’s a hell of a lot more fun to watch than “Smells Like Teen Spirit.”
Ha, what can I say guys. I am obsessed with music like the rest of you (and have tons of free time at work in front of a computer). When you have tastes as eclectic as mine, navigating the big festivals becomes much more of a challenge. My Bonnaroo and Coachella schedules get especially ridiculous, I have to color code acts I'm interested in with 3 priorities to make it more manageable.
My favorite line from Okeechobee was a guy talking to one of my crew, who points over to me and says to my friend "you are with THAT guy? I see that guy at every single show...and he is always dancing"
