this is one of my favorite threads on reddit, so I thought I would bring it here - roo style! so we can all discover some shizz we might not have looked at or don't feel like filtering through a million names on spotify for.
I'll start:
- jungle - flume - caribou - sylvan esso - war on drugs
who should I listen to?!
ps. we can go outside the lineup, too. maybe let's specify similar roo artists and similar general artists. thoughts?

Apparently we're turning this into a request thread. So I'll jump in too. I'm working all night and looking for something along the lines of house/trance music. Obviously, as far as Roo artists go, there's Deadmau5, but I was looking for more too. I could also do ambient/chillwave type stuff. I dig The War on Drugs, Caribou, FlyLo, Glass Animals, etc. I'm basically looking for stuff that won't overly distract me with tons of melodies or too much singing while I work. Any suggestions?

Because you like Flume & Caribou, you should definitely listen to Jamie XX & Rustie.
Because you like War on Drugs, you should listen to Unknown Mortal Orchestra & Strand of Oaks.
these are great!! I've dabbled a bit in jamie xx and unknown mortal orchestra - they've been on my list to listen to for a while now - and the other 2 I haven't listened to yet!
If u like Flume, you should check out Robert DeLong....his set last year killed!!!!
I love robert delong!! I was so sad I missed his set last year. we didn't get into centeroo until later in the evening. I saw his silent disco dj set though!!

Tycho is probably the easiest answer for ambient type stuff.
For people asking about The War on Drugs and Strand of Oaks, you should try Hiss Golden Messenger.

you should try Iceage.
It's none of the things you described or are looking for, but you'll thank me.
It seems like a lot of people don't know Gregory Alan at all - and I'm torn between wanting more people to discover how beautiful his music is & being happy with the idea that I can easily score a great spot for his spot.
For people who like Spoon, check out Guster. Not entirely similar sounds but both came about near the turn of the 21st century, and I think there is likely a fair amount of crossover fans (though Guster is obviously less well known).
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.

If you like Tame Impala than you'll definitely like Temples.
That's the first thing I thought when I was looking for some of their vids for the concert thread. I was already pretty happy with the undercard but I keep finding more.

I love Tycho! That's actually what I ended up listening to for a lot of the night while working. I also threw on some Rustie, and while it wasn't ambient or trance, it worked alright. I would've enjoyed it a lot had I not been working. I'm definitely gonna give him another spin sometime soon.
I'm reading the bio for Hiss Golden Messenger now, and I think I'm in love before I've even heard a note. Thank you! This sounds like it would make an awesome Sonic Stage set, too.
Recently I've realized that I can only appreciate live music that I can dance to.
Example: I LOVE listening to James Blake in my headphones but was terribly bored at his show last year. Two of my favorite shows last year were probably Disclosure and Classixx. However, I don't only need electronic music. Specifically, Foals and David Byrne come to mind as great shows that I could really get into.
Only very rarely can I just stand there and appreciate music (Four Tet, Darkside, and Tame Impala come to mind). Also, I absolutely can't stand dub-step or anything in that realm (sorry Flume).
Having said all that, who should I listen to this year besides the obvious picks (Deadmau5, WOD, Jamie XX, Fly Lo, Sylvan Esso, MMJ, Caribou, Moon Taxi, Mac Demarco, SBTRKT)?

I'm pretty much the same way. Rudimental was a pick for this last year, so I'm obviously carrying it over to this year. I haven't had a chance to dive in too much yet, but Jungle seems like it has potential. And Earth, Wind, and Fire. But that's obvious.

Hmm, I don't think of Flume as being even close to dub step. What of his did you listen to?
Jungle, Glass Animals, and Odesza come to mind as shows that should have people dancing.
I agree that EWF is a must. I can definitely get weird at their show. Rustie was a solid B when I saw him at Pitchfork. I may end up at their show again this year.
The Shins are boring.
Tycho seems pretty cool. I hope they are good live.
I'll check out Jungle. (Edit: added to my spotify)

Idk, I listened to some sets on youtube and it sounded like some dubstep/trap type of nonsense.
Actually, it was this:
The first 8 minutes or so sounded like absolute garbage to me and I stopped listening altogether. I guess I should have listened further, since the rest of the set is nothing like the start.

Cool. I really enjoy Tycho's studio stuff. I listed a couple live set I found below..
I believe you'll enjoy Hiss Golden Messenger. He does seem like a really interesting person.
