I've listened to two episodes of Blowback and it is very good but hard to stomach for sure. Otherwise, I would have listened to more by now.
A got drunk spent a night cooking and baking and meal prepping and binged the first few episodes, and then yeah, had to give it a bit. I was 18 in 2004 and i should have been more invested in it. One of oldest friend's older brothers was killed in fallujah and it was what drove me to be less disaffected, but holy shit you just realize how complicit and fucked up everything was involving Iraq going back decades.

The deeper history really does help you appreciate the level of deceit involved. Like I was pretty invested at the time but I had no idea just how corrupt and insane some of the "sources" being cited were. Like I knew it was bullshit but a child could have told you some of these assets were insanely untrustworthy. Of course, that actually wasn't a concern to the powers that be. Just blood-boiling stuff.
Did you listen to the bonus episodes yet? I haven't went back to them. There's one the portrayal of Muslims in our media W/ Matt Christman.. But that reminds me of something I'd meant to share a while back....
Haven't shared any Citations Needed in a while. This 3-part series on anti-Muslim racism in movies and the CIA/US military's involvement in Hollywood is insanely good. I knew it happened but I had no idea just how heavily involved they were and how much say they can have on scripts, etc. Pretty easy to see how it happens when the military can up the production value of your movies if you willing to bend to their will a little.

Yeah I binged those citations needed pods. Lots of stuff I expected, lots of stuff I didn't.
Imma plug lee brains and the glory fires here - imagine drive by truckers but even more political and a lot more punk rock. Really good rock n roll and southern perspectives on politics.

Perfect. I wanted to re-watch those anyway. Was always more a Freddy kid than a Jason or Michael one.
Also been losing it on my binge-listening of The Flagrant Ones. I'm almost caught up to present day but that show is so damn funny even though I still haven't really watched much basketball in a while.

Has anyone been having issues with the Stitcher App sucking extra hard lately? I’m just getting episodes that were supposed to have come out at the end of last week.

yes! it always kind of sucks, but has been especially bad recently, even with premium. my feed is missing multiple shows from yesterday and today.

yesterdays stuff showed up, but didn’t automatically download or show the little blue star thing to show there was a new ep. had to go through and find them all.
Get it together stitcher! I just want to listen to Fake Doctors, Real Friends. They took last week off and I’ve missed Zach, Donald, Joelle, & Danel.

This still kills me every time. I always have to rewind a few times on the songs. The best thing about this episode is how much everyone just shits on Étouffée (Zeke Nicholson). When they're all pitching Truck movies and he pitches one that's like the Princess & The Frog but Carl just shuts it down and everyone loses it is so perfect.
Rob Lowe talking about fast food went pretty much how one might think lol..
"McDonalds shouldn't have salads. It's a burger place. But also Big Macs are bad because they have an extra piece of bread and I get my In-N-Out in a lettuce wrap."
Also lol at Mitch asking if Rob ever went out to dinner with Chris Farley and whether Farley ordered "some good stuff". I wanna hear about whether they ever smoked crack together or something.

each bite needs a little hat!
David Spade told that story to Marc Maron years ago and I think about it all the time. I wonder if they were talking about the same dinner or if Farley did that every time he had steak.

Yeah, I imagine. I'm a big fan of what I consider "good country" music that isn't just about trucks, red solo cups, 'merica, and the like. My family is all about the pop country shit and the closest I can get to agreeing with them is with like Chris Stapleton and Zac Brown Band. All the other big names they like are the very formulaic types that talk about god and this country and respect the troops and maybe sometimes a funny song about going to the fishing hole or driving through mud or some shit.
Meanwhile I love Jason Isbell, Sturgill Simpson, Tyler Childers, and a bunch more that are far from "mainstream" country.
That said....I was raised on pop/CMT Country and I still have a few songs that get to my nostalgia.

Every Andy Daly character and appearance on Comedy Bang Bang is hilarious but this one where he has all his characters commit suicide at the end ant cracks up Scott and Jason is a classic
I lost interest in U Talkin Talking Heads To My Talking Head pretty fast and just haven't felt like returning. It's not like I know their music super well, and I was learning stuff and all, but I just think RHCP would have been funnier.

it's been the opposite for me, i've really enjoyed it. good guests, both Tawny Newsome and David Wain were great. i've laughed a lot, the bits have been good, and i've found the stories about the band to be pretty interesting. i always knew Byrne was a bit of a dick, or maybe more charitably has poor social skills, and the podcast has really illuminated that.
having said that my hope is that once they wrap talking heads they just go back into RHCP. i agree that RHCP's story will be way more interesting than mild drama about writing credits and david byrne being rude and/or not showing up sometimes.

I’m on the edge of giving up on it. I enjoy the discussion about Talking Heads and everything else related to the music... it’s the HOUR of dumb show within a show bits I can’t stand. Its the one podcast that doesn’t go straight to my playlist because I need to be in the right mood for it.
Yeah.. I don't know. Because I loved the dumb bits with U2. And the album stuff was pretty secondary, but also U2 has had such a compelling career where they've fucked up massively and had to dig themselves out of it at least three times. That dynamic has definitely flipped with this one. I am more interested in the research. Maybe the bits just aren't as good and maybe that's not for any particular reason. But I definitely think RHCP would be a great true sequel to U2. TH feel too cool or something, and REM kinda did too.

i mean, isn't this like every other earwolf podcast though?

Probably true. The only other Earwolf shows I listen to anymore are Magic Tavern and How Did This Get Made.

Got it, makes sense. Personally while I'm slowly making my way through HH, and have enjoyed the occasional episode of CBB, the only other earwolf pod I listen to consistently is Talking Heads. So couple hours of silliness once every two weeks works for me.
