Watched two episodes of the Aunty Donna Netflix show the other night. Pretty hit-and-miss for me, but some decent chuckles. Hopefully they can help the boys land a Netflix show of their own!

It's definitely hit or miss but that's most sketch shows anyway.
I think that diving into their work for weeks before this show started really helped me appreciate their styles more. They've got a few formulas they use that they have gotten better with over time. They've got song sketches (which usually are more polished since there's less improv and they have to be filmed to match the music). Then they've got their list/repeated character sketches where they just run through a bunch of random short bits. Sometimes with improv sometimes with just quick cuts. Some sketches just keep escalating and getting insane (the end of Everything's a drum, the Ellen sketch).
If you watch some of their older stuff you see how they were fine being less polished and some of it includes them breaking a bit or cutting right before making the other person laugh. But I still love a lot of what they got.
Some of the better song sketches (i've already posted Chop Chop which I love):
And it's also cool, just like with stand up and other sketch, to see how a bit evolves over time. The "Everything's a Drum" song from the first episode is an updated/evolved version of what they used to perform. One of my biggest laughs from the Netflix episode is when the drum doesn't work and Broden gets serious and looks out the window, talking like an evil mastermind/cult leader. "Easy now, Brother Mark". "Everything....is..a drum.". Like before that part it's just kind of a silly song and I laugh at "Can you make my willy go parum-pa-pum-pum?" followed by "I did a cum!".
Older, live version
Netflix version:
And their list/many character sketches work for me because even if one or two of the characters don't work there's so many that kill me. The halloween one from the past introduces "Cowdoy" who Broden plays in the Netflix series. I love Cowdoy. But even in this one you can see they left the video less polished and there's a few scenes of them just improvising, making each other laugh, or trying random shit. It gets tighter in other list sketches
Basically, I love their absurd humor but totally get it when things don't land. Like, in Morning Brown I find a few things in there funny but overall its nothing too great.

I have to stop watching their stuff because when I'm trying to go to sleep or focus on stuff my brain now alternates between Bigoted Bill, Everything's a Drum, and Bikie Gang. I finally got Chop Chop out of my head and now I have the others stuck.
I also keep watching their medley from the live show that I think I posted a little while back. It's so funny and catchy

lol I had to re-watch Cowdoy's intro in the Halloween video after posting those.
"Cowdoy? *sniff sniff* Why is it...you smell like dirt and foreskin?"
"I been down to the foreskinnery"
"Cowdoy? *sniff sniff*"
"What's wrong, March?"
"You smell like cum!"
"Ahhhh no....I ben down to the cummery."
THEN:
"COWDOY! Why do you smell like my balls?"
"I been dooooown to the ballery."
THEN:
"You smell of the condom I found out the front of my primary school."
"Been down to the condomery."
"Feel like this bit's outstayed it's welcome."
This whole section is clearly them trying to make Broden laugh.
Broden repeating "We got the heebie jeebies, it's the worst halloween ever, we're so spooked" makes me smile each time. Same for the post-credits scene with Mark "hanging" himself that makes them crack up.

While I very rarely have been starting new podcasts lately (i'm on a good schedule with CBB, HH, Stay F Homekins, and trying to catch up on Bonanas for Bonanza, In Gourely and Rust, etc. I did try out the show that Will Hines plugged on his recent comedy bang bang appearance.
It's a really dense comedy nerd show with a ton of references to various sketches, jokes, bits, etc. from comedy and I feel so seen. There's so many times where I think of references or jokes that I can never bring up to people around me because they won't get it and why i'm obsessed with dumb shit like this.
It's called "What's That From" and it was a bit of a search to find it at first because there are other similar titles for bigger podcasts. But I've only listened to the intro episode and the first full episode and I love it. Not only do they just go from one bit or line to the next they also play short audio clips from the show. So there's a ton of SNL, Mr. Show, Simpsons, and other sketch or written comedy that they just keep getting to.
Very enjoyable so far.
They get into some real obscure shit at times, like this random Farley and Tom Arnold bit for I guess a Tom Arnold show:
Stoked to listen to Doughboys (Burger King 4) with Don't Stop or We'll Die. Paul Rust is probably my favorite regular guest on the show aside from, of course, the Boys. Maybe even moreso, tbh.

Also started the first episode of the Aunty Donna podcast. Made me laugh but very, very rough/loose with no idea what the show will be. Like a lot of early podcasts I've listened to and they keep saying "I don't know....I guess the show will be like this?" lol.
Every time I try to start listening to a new podcast I just end up relistening to Season 2 of Hollywood Masterclass
Yeah, lol. I'm at that point now because I finished a relisten of the HH Pro versions. I've been picking random HH and HH Pro versions to listen to recently when I'm out of the ones I usually do. I probably need to get to Masterclass for the 3rd or 4th time.
I'm almost all caught up on Flagrant Ones, too. I'm obsessed with the boys.
New Threedom eps coming soon. I got the first batch of 5 when they dropped weeks ago and I couldn't help myself and binged them fast.
All my Patreon subs lapsed because I got a new debit card, and the only one I've resubbed to so far was the Chapo premium feed. I had a few others like Flagrant Ones, Success Express, etc. that I just haven't gone back to yet, but for the most part they're not time-sensitive so I can just wait a bit and resub and listen to the ones I missed.
I listened to some of the new Doughboys and they recorded it on election night, I guess. Literally the last thing Mitch said when I pulled into the garage was "Trump just won Florida!" lol so that should be fun.
Edit: oh, they were joking about how they'd probably get results by the time they did Snack or Whack.

For patreon I only have Flagrant Ones and I recently subscribed to Shaun Diston's one to listen to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle stuff. I want to check out Lauren Lapkus's as well. She has some character/comedy stuff and some watch-along commentary too.

doughboys is not for me, but i love paul rust so much. our plan for the day is eating burger king and listening while putting all of the ridiculous christmas blow molds out in the yard. have any of you tried the impossible whopper? that's pretty much my only option and it looks disgusting to me.
itrainmonkeys we're one week behind on gourley and rust, but we watched freddy's dead last night. for some reason the 6th episode isn't showing up for me in stitcher, and these guys are the only reason i sat through that absolute garbage.
I tried to get the Impossible Whopper around when they first introduced it. It was the first time I'd gone to BK in like a decade. They were out of the veggie burger so I got some chicken sandwich, which ended up being completely messed up from what I ordered. It was pretty much a disaster visit.
There isn't really a Burger King near me so it's out of my way to even get it. But even when I lived near one I didn't go. I realized listening to the episode that the only fast food I get anymore is Taco Bell, basically, even though they took a bunch of good stuff off their menu and added a communal, shared nachos in the middle of COVID lol wtf. Sometimes I'll go to Jack in the Box if I'm extra depressed. Jalapeno poppers for life.

I'm only 15 minutes into the Hollywood Handbook episode with Atsuko Okatsuka and i'm hyperventilating from laughter.
The puns are great.
Then they launch into "20 question" where it's now Atsuko .vs. Sean (with Hayes hosting/delivering questions)
Hayes: first question: Favorite Babysitter?
Atsuko: Stacy, from the Babysitter Club
Sean: "I don't have any babysitters.....because I was raised by T.V.".
then Sean arguing about whether books are on TV because Babysitters Club was books before was so funny to me.
Then Hayes delivers the answer:
Hayes: "The answer was, unfortunately......James Bond. Question two: One gotta go...bones edition. One of your bones has to go away. Which one?"
I lost it.
Also the "Pick me! Pick me!" way of buzzing in was fucking hilarious. Atsuko delivering a "King solomon" style way of reasoning won her the round hahaha

So many classic earwolf shows ending or leaving. Not sure if it's just due to new ownership or wanting to make their own slice of the pie/more money independently. There's definitely been a shift in podcasting where it's become a lot more focused on BIG names starting podcasts while the ones who got us to where we are are starting to adapt.
Yo! Is This Racist is leaving Earwolf and starting their own bundle-style thing with the regular show and another new show as well as other bonus things.
Teacher's Lounge already finished up and now they're launching two new shows on their own.
With Gourley and Rust went independent
Off Book just announced they'd also be leaving and maybe starting a patreon or other independent thing.
I'm getting nervous about Comedy Bang Bang and Hollywood Handbook as those are the two main things I still listen to. Scott has hinted for a few years that he may be wrapping it up soon and I could see him moving on sooner rather than later.

Fake Doctors, Real Friends had on the Real JD today. He’s the assistant medical director of one of the largest LA hospitals now and helping run their COVID response teams. It was a really good talk.
i wasn't sure if i should mention it in here or the tv thread, but i watched natalie palamides' new netflix special nate last night. it was on my radar already because she's from pittsburgh, but i definitely wanted to watch after she was on cbb this week. i don't want to give any background because you should go in without really knowing what's going to happen. we really enjoyed it, and i think a bunch of you would be into it too.
listened to Smartless (jason bateman/sean hayes/will arnett) for the first time. Conan O'Brien episode. I know maybe some people are growing a bit tired of <insert big name celebrity> here podcasts, but this one was really enjoyable. I thought it might be too goofy chatty with all those personalities in the room but IMO they all did a good job. conan told some stories i'd heard before but they are such good stories i didn't mind hearing them again (like when he ended up on an LA > NYC flight with Will Ferrell and instead of talking like humans they did a bit wherein Conan just talked about how much he loved books but it was clear he didn't know how to read, i.e. he would be holding a book upside down pretending to read).
all the hosts had their part to play. jason bateman calm and reserved, sean hayes full of nervous energy, will arnett kind of a gruff dick the whole time (probably just because conan was the guest). i'll be checking out some more episodes, very entertaining.

There are some good episodes for sure. I haven't listened to them all though

I popped in this thread to say that the conan podcast has been great throughout quarantine for me. I really love the conan/sona/gourley banter and most of the guests are awesome talks. His recent ones with Sam richardson (from veep) and Jim parsons (sheldon on big bang theory) were both interesting and funny in two totally different ways. He's an excellent evergreen comedian, but also a great interviewer. The only episode of smartless I've listened to was the the conan one, bc he plugged it on his pod, but it was great. I need to listen to more of it.
Side note: I really really want more Bubble
Edit: just listened to the john leguizamo ep with conan and it's excellent. He's so funny and smart and leads a great discussion about latinos in America.

Chef kevin, sean, and hayes apparently announce on today's show that they are also leaving earwolf, in January. Wow. That leaves very little reason to stick with stitcher. My main other shows are CBB and the few paul f tompkins ones.
Wow, indeed. Wtf happened to Earwolf, I wonder? They were one of the most robust podcasting networks around, especially among the independent companies focused primarily on that.

It seems to be a result of the big SiriusXM purchase. They've joked before about how it keeps getting bought/changing like when it went from Earwolf to Midroll to Scripps and now Sirius.
There also seems to be a bigger focus on big celebrity names and their own podcasts instead of the smaller, niche shows.
I imagine we'll eventually see Matt Besser go on his own soon. Possibly How Did This Get Made but that's a big show so they may throw money at them. I remember Paul Scheer being angry when they introduced the pay wall a few years ago and locked a lot of older movies behind it.
Threedom, Stay F Homekins, and CBB keep me going. But I will follow Sean and Hayes to wherever they go.
