The "dumb bitch" line in question was about how she incorrectly used a hyphen and it was written as "biznatch" for what I assumed was humorous effect. Surely, you understand that it was an over the top joke and not someone "legit" calling her a stupid bitch for what she wrote.
When you write "bitch" on here it comes out as "biznatch." That's the word filter. If she actually wrote "biznatch," well then the word filter makes it hard to differentiate.
She did write out "biznatch".
And here, join the group, then you can tell the difference too:

Fair point. I still think the post in question was obviously a joke considering it was criticizing the use of a hyphen.

I did actually write out biznatch. if you were to quote me, it would show up that way. (in the quote reply, prior to posting) I wrote biznatch because, again, I was exaggerating and making it semi-joking.
if I were seriously making it personalized and not joking around, I would have written out "wow fuck that bitch, she's a fucking moron. jesus christ."
Come on Rory it was a poor excuse for journalism and you know it. There are also plenty of problems with Roo, but she doesn't hit on any off them (because she has never been to experience them), she just generalizes 80K people as hipsters and complains about the heat.
Her not being there doesn't entirely invalidate her opinion. Even a broken clock is right twice a day and all that. She blindly and inadvertently stumbled into some truths here, but everyone will ignore the message because of the messenger.
Let me put it this way - if that one sentence about her not having actually experienced Bonnaroo wasn't in there, would it change your opinion of the article?
While she may have accurately recognized that Bonnaroo is not cheap and that the conditions can be harsh, the article doesn't accurately portray Bonnaroo because it fails to even acknowledge that there might be legitimate reasons why a person would want to go, such as the music, for example. She pretty much only mentions music in regard to the lineup dropping. Instead, she focuses entirely on the conditions, which she hasn't experienced. And even that would be fine if she had looked at the festival and said to herself, "wow, that's not for me." But that's not what she did. She wrote and published an article online that essentially takes the position that Bonnaroo is basically torture, and only an idiot would want to pay exorbitant prices to dress like a moron and subject himself to other stinky morons and horrible, horrible heat. In other words, it seemed to me like she was personally insulting anyone who would be stupid enough to not only put himself through that, but also to pay for it. So while I in no way advocate personal attacks on someone for expressing her opinion, I think it's a little disingenuous to act like all she did was express an opinion.* She may not have used the words, "Bonnaroo attendees are stupid," but that's certainly the message that her article conveyed.
*And that's not to say that I advocate personal attacks on her, or anyone else, for any reason, but if you walk up to someone you don't know and call her stupid, you probably shouldn't expect her to congratulate you on your journalism skills.
Maybe she's trolling. I mean, I really hope she's trolling.
This isn't a forum post, it was published in a college newspaper. Perhaps she was planning to go and her group dumped her. It seems to be from the perspective of someone who is disenfranchised or bitter.

Or just young and naive. I know plenty of people who don't "get" the appeal of getting dirty for a few days in a hot field in the summer for hundreds of dollars even if they have a ton of great music they could see.

It's an opinion piece. It's a stupid, uninformed opinion. But she's entitled to state it and her college paper is entitled to print it. It's a huge waste of emotional energy to get upset every time someone states an opinion you strongly disagree with. Mocking derision is fine, however. That's why we have the internet.
Edit: Mocking derision and, of course, porn. My friends at www.drunkenmidgetsinbondage.com would kill me if I didn't mention the porn.

I get this. But being young is no reason to have blinders on to the world.

Oh for sure. But she still has time to open them. I didn't know what a Bonnaroo was until I was 19. And I was just lucky to have my friends explain it to me in glowing, positive terms which led to my excitement for it.

I've stopped getting fired up over anything from news, because I realize that people in the news industry have deadlines to meet and pressure from their bosses to write things that get attention. So that leads to girls like this UGA writer to write something controversial to get attention...which apparently worked at least to the extent of getting attention in the inforoo world.

You nailed it on the head! (with your comments, not the midget or midgets in the porn)

Calm down Mr. Drama Lama. Follow her where? She's a sophomore writing for an independent student paper. The "authority" that gave the go ahead was a student editor. The students don't have to get approval from the higher ups before something goes to print. Not sure what is so shocking about students running a student paper and not being complete professionals about it. I'm pretty sure some poorly thought out opinion piece, that almost everyone will forget about next week, isn't really going to have any effect on her future.
The best part is not knowing anyone at UGA that can afford to go Bonnaroo. At worst, this piece just shows she doesn't have much of a social life.
I agree with your comments about most of your piece but I fear that it will follow her if she intends to have a career. I google everyone that I consider hiring for any position and would certainly consider the judgement of someone who would publish something like this, regardless of topic, without research. We know that back when I was in college there was a college paper that did not live on forever, times change.
Sure, in the future, you might find this if you searched hard enough for it but it's going to be buried in all her other online output. Just from a quick look on the site, she's averaging around 4 articles a month. So she could easily have at least 70 articles just from the Red and Black by her assumed graduation date. Now I've skimmed a couple and there is nothing amazing going on but let's again consider that she's around 20 years old here. Some hiring managers take youth and lack of experience into consideration, so the OP's idea that this is going to haunt her for life is ridiculous.
That and the fact that she doesn't even seem certain of what she wants to do as a career anyway. SEE. It's really not that hard to read a little more into her and realize that one article isn't the sum of her existence. Which is another reason I find the idea of this effecting her future overblown. After reading a couple articles, I will admit that the she's got a long way to go
And let me repeat something I've said on here and Facebook. Nobody cares about The Red & Black.
