Next year's initial lineup is being announced tomorrow at 5:00pm
Who are you thinking Bill?
I'm inclined to think TTB is one of the headliners since they dropped out last year and their 3-night run in Philly was this past weekend- maybe XPN was waiting until after that to announce?

I am guessing Sunday. Old Crow Medicine Show, Brandi Carlisle and Dawes just announced a joint tour and they are playing Merriweather on Saturday, July 23rd. Guessing that is the Sunday pavilion show...

3 nights at the pavilion this year.
Headline shows:
Friday Night: Ryan Adams Kurt Vile Tommy Stinson
Saturday Night: Alabama Shakes Gary Clark Jr. Chicano Batman
Sunday Night: Brandi Carlile Old Crow Medicine Show ??/??/?? (Assuming one of these is Dawes?)
Wiggins Park Lineup: Father John Misty (solo) Josh Ritter & The Royal City Band Preservation Hall Jazz Band The Felice Brothers The Districts Femi Kuti & The Positive Force David Wax Museum The Suffers Darlingside Low Cut Connie Diane Coffee The Record Company
debating going to this now. It doesnt look like they sell day passes for Wiggins Park, is that right? Also I recall a friend telling me in the past that this BYOB is that also right? Stubhub has 3 day everywhere passes for 113 after fees and 20$ Pavillion lawn seats which are both good deals. I raelly would prefer to just go all day Sat though but doesnt look to be possible.
edit/update: Found it on the website. Wiggins opark day passes will be on sale 7/12. Anyone know how much they usually cost?
I just read about that FJM thing. Sounds insane. As some1 who likes him, that would ev really pissed me off. Idk if it was just the crowd or what caused him to do that but that blows.
My issue with Father John Misty's performance is not that he made vague political remarks and didn't play his hits, it's the blatant disregard he showed towards his fans that came out to see him. His ramblings were not thought provoking, they were seemingly the musings of a drunk relative you have to tolerate listening to during the holidays. In addition, FJM did not give clearance to WXPN to broadcast his performance on the radio (the only act at the festival to do so), so his whole monologue was not a spur of the moment thing, it was clearly planned and rehearsed. As I was quoted in the article above, I was about ten feet away from FJM while he was leaving the stage in a van and he was laughing hysterically, which clearly shows that he wasn't too broken-hearted about anything and that this was all planned.
From a personal stand-point, his actions made for an incredibly disappointing XPN Fest for my wife and I. For those of you who don't know, XPN Fest is held in two locations, the first being at a park on the Delaware River, which is for smaller and local acts (FJM headlined the three days at the park), before moving over to a larger concert venue at night (where Ryan Adams, Alabama Shakes, and Brandi Carlile played). You can buy tickets for just the larger acts at the concert venue (which is what we've done for the past few years), or you can buy a ticket to both locations for more money, which we did specifically to see FJM, as we were unable to see him on his recent tours. When FJM said he was done playing after about 10-15 minutes of music, everyone in the crowd waited for him to return, figuring it was just some part of his act, but when the house music came on, we were incredibly annoyed. If FJM wanted to play new and improvised songs for an hour, while I wouldn't have been 100% happy, I would have been excited to hear new music from an artist I really enjoy. Instead, it felt like he was just drunk and phoned his performance in and left 30 minutes early, which isn't OK.
Following his "performance," the next act up, The Suffers mentioned that although other acts didn't seem to feel the same way, it was a privilege for them to be at XPN Fest and share their music with us, which was very received by the crowd. Later in the night Ryan Adams too made mention how there'd be no "preaching" tonight and just wanted the crowd to have some fun.
If Father John Misty wanted to make a coherent statement on the blurring of the lines between politics and entertainment in current society (which he didn't), XPN Fest was not the appropriate place to do so. XPN Fest isn't some mega-fest put on by Bud Light or something. It's run by WXPN, a fantastic, member supported independent radio station in Philadelphia that is supported financially by members like me, who pay annual dues. In addition, the festival is billed as kid's friendly environment, so there are a ton of young kids around, which made FJM's heavy use of the F-word inappropriate. So if FJM was trying to rail against despotic governments in support of the little guys or something, he took his frustrations out on a wonderful local independent radio station and their members, which seems counterproductive to me.
Aside from FJM, it's been an interesting festival to say the least. The power cut out half-way through the Felice Brothers and they had to bring in a new generator. In addition, a flash monsoon soaked everyone and evacuated the festival, canceling Josh Ritter's performance and pushing David Wax Museum until today. Ryan Adams and Alabama Shakes' late night performances were excellent however.

Sorry you had to experience that. From what I hear, he gave a good performance last night at Newport. This strange behavior does not surprise me in light of his "quartz crystal stealing from a juice bar" rant.

He was amazing at Newport but definitely seemed to be going through something. It was just him and an acoustic and really laid back/calm without any of his usual gimmicky stuff. Loved it. His encore was a super long song that felt like it was summing up/addressing all the shit he's going through. Not sure how new it is but he talks about 2017 in it.
Gary Clark and The Shakes both killed it last night, so glad I went. I've only been on the lawn and in the pit at BBT and this was my first time with a seat and we had such a great view being right in between the 100 and 200 sections. I didn't like the shakes last time I saw them in the fall but they def redeemed themselves and it helped they played Hold On this time. Hope there haven't been any heat related issues this weekend, it's hot as hell here this weekend.
This FJM drama, coupled with the power outage, flash flood and evacuation, and 100 degree heat made for a difficult XPN Fest at times, but I'm still glad I went nonetheless.
Top 5 performances from the weekend: Alabama Shakes, Ryan Adams, Old Crow Medicine Show, Mavis Staples, Brandi Carlile
I'm not a big FJM fan but this certainly makes me appreciate him LESS. I'm not a big SoA fan but this certainly makes me appreciate him MORE. Kittens are cool, too.
