Sorry if I can't find this somewhere else but how do I know where kalliope will be? I don't want to miss it with PL

All these suggestions that PL and BN play together... I'm lost... Considering how these two guys perform, how is this even possible to suggest. Both guys use largely presequenced sets, where they modify elements using controllers. I've not known them to mix live, so what is there for them to collab on? Not trying to be a negative nancy here, maybe someone can enlighten me.
If it has never happened at a show that is actually called Basslights that has ran for 3 years and multiple dates, it is not going to happen at Bonnaroo or ever.

How much actually changes set to set, I couldn't say. But it seems Bassnectar does take a different approach then some other artists. I also appreciate the attitude and sentiment he expresses towards the end of the NPR interview. It's definitely worth listening to if you're curious about this kind of stuff.

In another life, I threw raves for a living. Or rather worked a shit job for a steady income and through 6 - 12 parties a year. This was between 94 and 2000, with a rare one off after that. I was lucky enough to work closely with a couple of folks that really helped me understand the mechanics of DJing, Live performances, production and the base technologies.
After throwing parties, I still attended parties and would get to see how things evolved, how technology afforded DJs the ability to extend elements of tracks and live remix work (which is what BN, PL do). Back in the late 90's I played around with the 808 Groovesampler, a Korg Triton a Chaos Pad and a few other toys, so I reasonably get it. What these guys do is take a baseline of a presequenced set, and build layers ontop of it. Yes it is more live than a DJ, thought its not mixed. I think of it as the same as when you go to a restaurant and listen to a piano player, or a guitarist, where the accompanyment is all programmed and they simply play one part (the piano of guitar). This is the same, their are fun as fuck to dance to, and both PL and BN are solid producers, but it would be impossible for them to collaborate live based on what they do live. They would have to presequence a set of tracks back to back, where one stepped in, then the other, then back and forth from there. They could reasonably rework each others stuff if they were well versed well enough in the work and their pads and controllers. Doing that though, couldnt be spontaneous and the work would be massive.

Then you haven't seen either one of these guys early in their career. Bassnectar is amazing mixing live, which is why I am tired of seeing him now. I'm talking 10 years ago. These 2 really know their shit, and have just gone the route of large scale shows with preset mixes for the money and fame. If we do see "Lorin" and "Derek" out there, just jammin, it actually would be really something special. So, yea I wouldn't expect some of you to understand how these two could collaborate, but they are a little more talented then the stuff you see when they play major shows. They just arent consistent enough to pull it off night after night like they would need to to make the money they make. If it does happen, it would be live, there would be mistakes, but it would be sick and memorable. That is what Bonnaroo is known for. If I would've been sitting here telling you last year that Skrillex, after playing a full set of his own, then a 2 and half hour superjam, that he would come out at 6am and be playing SChoolboy Q?!?! You would've been giving me more shit then you are now! But..it happened. So, get it out of your heads that this couldn't happen. Because, in all reality, they are just 2 dj's that would probably get a kick out of it. It's not like I'm saying Billy Joel is gonna get together with Robert Plant and do Led Zepp Covers out in the new camping grounds shaded area.
I saw Lorin the first time is a small bar in Asheville, like 10 years ago. I get that they can both mix (though I'm much less familiar with PL before the controller based performances). Could they do DJ sets, sure, but that's not baselights that people keep asking for, nor would it really make sense for them to do a B2B set instead of stand alone sets. My point is baselights are presequenced sets, done over two nights. so even if they play a B2B set, which is doubtful, iit is baselights?

If you think Pretty Lights does preset mixes, you are as clueless as you are annoying. Clearly you missed his 2014 throw down until the sun was wayyyy up.
