Yeezus changed the game. Almost every hip hop album from TPaB down to Pusha T has some elements that were first introduced on that album. You can say you personally don't dig it, but that album was a milestone. Don't think albums like that can be considered overrated.
I don't know about that, but whatever. I mean, if you want to go down that route, then I hope everyone reconsiders their hate for 808s, because if we're speaking purely on influence on other artists, 808s might be the most important album of the last 10 years. I don't think Yeezus is a great album. If it inspires greatness elsewhere, then that's terrific, but as someone who has been a massive Kanye fan since day one, it's the only album of his I barely ever listen to, beyond a track here and there.
That being said - I just heard the brand new song he dropped today, and it's the best thing he's released since Christian Dior Denim Flow, and the snippet of the track with Kendrick is even better. So there's hope.
If this new track and the previewed track are kicking off the album, we are in for a great one.
Isnt GNR setting out on a normal tour? the reunion just doesnt seem as special to me if that happens. Ill just buy a ticket at my local amphitheater and see them. No one has heard anything about a Kayne tour this could be a one off or one show in a handful.
The rumor on GnR is that they're playing football stadiums and tickets will cost what a full on festival pass costs.
Honestly not trying to compare the two, Kanye and GnR are both very good grabs.
I havent really listened to The Killers in years, but when the rumor of them headlining popped out a few days ago I started to revisit those first albums. Damn they've suddenly become one of my most anticipated sets. Hot Fuss was such a fun album. Not to mention how huge this song sounds live:
Yeah I watched their 2014 Hangout set last night and was reminded how many fun hits they have. Definitely looking forward to finally getting a chance to see them, but I'm guessing once will be enough for me
It's an overrated album, sorry. Just because something is difficult to listen to doesn't mean it's "deep" or whatever.
The year of Yeezus's release you were hailing it the best album of the year. I remember specifically you saying Pusha had the best hip hop album, but Yeezus was a better album. What changed for you? Was the rest of that year's crop of music just that bad?
I do admire the Founders approach on this one. It's the JJ Abrams Star Wars approach. Let's take a bunch of stuff we've done before that people have liked - and then rearrange it. So it seems good and a little familiar, and you don't feel guilty about paying for it because you know what you're going to get.
I'm aware I'm gonna be told how wrong I am, but Yeezus is one of my favorite Kanye Albums. I find it incredibly listenable, and it was the only CD in my car for a very long time. Music is subjective, but I've never agreed with the hate that album got.
That album got a lot of hate? Thats my second favorite Ye album behind Dark Fantasy. When I go to the gym On Sight, Black Skinhead, Blood on the Leaves and I'm In It are my go to songs to get pumped up haha
Yes, Yeezus is perfect gym music. Black Skinhead and Blood on the Leaves are common go-to's for me too.
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
Also not crazy sure why everyone is underwhelmed again. It does suck know the headliners they WERE going for that dropped out. But once again this is a collection of groups that most people either like or love now a days.. Are there honestly festivals out there that you people are going to, that where every act you are going to see will be a new experience for you??
A big fan of gov ball and was preaching gov ball all last year and once again i think they came out an put a pretty dope lineup for being a 2nd tier festival. LCD is no longer a 'unique' get, and calvin harris people agree is huge but pretty meh. What other fest is getting Kanye this year? or the strokes? or robyn?
you do realize you're posting on a message board of people who go to first tier festivals every year, right?
You do realize that not everyone can afford to go to more than one or two festivals a year, right?
I think this festival's lineup is very strong, regardless of whether they are repeats or not. The undercard is incredibly solid as well. If a person can only afford to go to one festival this year, I think this one would be a great choice.

What is the likelihood of Govball finally getting a live stream this year?
Not a priority, so probably not this year.. But maybe.. We'll see.
I can go ahead and confirm that there will be alot more drink options this year. But fear not beer aficionados, that Miller Lite will still be flowing like the rivers of cuomo as well!
That makes me happy. As someone with celiacs, it would really piss me off that Govball only offered beer. Every year in the AMAs I always ask them to start selling cider or a gluten free beer option, but nothing changes. It's like they want me to stuff my pants with nips!

Any acts people are surprised arent on the undercard? I'm really surprised they didnt snag Sia. Also was expecting to see D'Angelo, Grimes, Leon Bridges, Fetty Wap, Alessia Cara, Wolf Alice, Cage the Elephant and Raury.
Must See 2018 List: 1. Drake 2. The Cure 3. David Byrne 4. King Krule 5. Moses Sumney 6. Dua Lipa 7. Mount Kimbie 8. Perfume Genius 9. Yaeji 10. Big Thief

Expected Fetty, Sia, and Cara - though personally prefer Robyn to Sia

Expected the usual cheese EDM. Hopefully the tide is starting to turn against that.
As far as The Strokes, they were solid last year at Shaky Knees. I talked to multiple people who said they were a lot better at that set compared to the last time they had saw them. No matter what you hear on here, if you like The Strokes...go to the set.
So who do ya'll think will be the closing acts each night? I'm guessing Beck gets the pre main-stage closing spot instead.
Kanye v Robyn (Kanye unopposed last 45 min or so) The Killers v M83 Strokes v Chet Faker
The Killers v M83 would suck a big one.
I agree, just have no idea who else they would put up against them.
Don't think GovBall goes for the low hanging fruit of Beck v Kanye, but maybe Kanye is completely unopposed. Could put Chet v Killers and Robyn v Strokes then.

Wasn't Phosphorescent a crossword clue too? Also surprised by the lack of Cage The Elephant

Here's hoping Calvin at Coachella is the watershed moment that kills (cuts?) the cheese.
Do you not think EDM in general has been changing within the past two years? I don't think it's a festival thing, but the industry itself. Deep house/trop house/melodic house is now what progressive/big room was.
