That's a great read, although it left me worried about the future of govball - pointing out the possibility of AEG already locking multiple artists into multi fest deals for 2017, precluding them from doing Govball.
Although that's basically what happened this year and we still got a great lineup out of them (and probably a great one out of Panorama too).
Not sure why I expected otherwise, but pretty unimpressed with the new Bloc Party (can listen to the whole thing on YT). Still think they'll be a big draw at GovBall, so hopefully they'll take some of the crowd away whomever they're booked against, maybe FJM?
Like Miike Snow, I am hoping they rely heavily on the old material.
Aw, Genghis Khan is a fun song. I'm hopeful for their new material, much more than Bloc Party at least.
, , if you have a chance to read, I would love to know your thoughts. There's a wealth on information in that piece.
Really well written. A lot is missing and misconstrued but it's a good read.
The part where the author made it seem like Founders and MSG were working together to flood the Parks Department with permit requests is total BS. Founders has been trying to put together a fall festival for a few years. Randalls isn't an option, so they were working towards Governors Island. Once they heard about AEG and Flushing they decided they'd love to do it there instead. They had the full intention of putting on a festival at Flushing if it was possible.
What really happened is the city told AEG their permit was going to come through, which is why they started signing acts to deals. When MSG, Founders, and LiveNation submitted their paperwork, the city knew there was no way they could hold all these events in a public park; and if they turned down MSG Founders or LiveNation but then gave AEG the go ahead, it would become a news story that the city was making a back door deal for a public space in exchange for political contributions. So they had to shoot down all the permit requests; and AEG was left holding the bag with a bunch of deals for artists and vendors that they can't back out on without losing millions. So now their fest is happening in late July on Randalls.
The article did a good job of painting AEG as being extremely predatory. They are and it's kind of much worse than what that article even made it seem. If people only knew half the shit AEG has tried to pull this year..
No plans for Gov Ball to go out of business like the article mentioned at the end there. Definitely aren't going to be pushed out of the June dates any time soon either. The only real concern is acquiring talent and the timing of their event in relation to Gov Ball ticket sales. In the case of artists, that comes down to routing and timing. Gov Ball will always be held around Roo, Boston Calling, Sasquatch, and Firefly so they should be fine.
Not sure I buy this completely. Founders knew what they were doing even if they weren't in direct communication with MSG.
I don't think that they were all denied because the office was flooded with paperwork. The office couldn't approve multiple permits to close a public park. The pushback would've been too much. They were in a position where denying all of the permits was their best option.

New board member here and happy there's a forum to discus Gov Ball at finally. Question for anyone involved in festival. Out of curiosity, when Kanye performed three years ago did he/his people dictate that no one could use the extended part of the stage that was set up? Always wondered if it pissed him off that the singer of Foals walked on that thing a few times.

When it comes to Kanye's catwalk or his butt, his words may say "no" but his eyes say "yes".
The Roots Picnic in Philadelphia lineup just came out. It's set on the Saturday of Governors Ball. I'm surprised Governors Ball didn't snag more of these artists being in the area. Blood Orange, Leon Bridges, Kelhani

Do you guys think this list placement makes sense for how sick the lineup is this year? goo.gl/nSYMcS
Since you posted this article 5 times, I assume you must have written it. "Impressed by the depth of the subheadliners at Bonnaroo", eh?
JFC this is a piece of shit article. everyone's entitled to their opinion but man the last line about bonnaroo is the biggest joke on this board in 2016

I think he's just referencing it to say it's not too early to release daily lineup considering Firefly has released theirs and it takes place two weeks later.
I personally can't imagine them teasing this unless it was coming soon. I'll guess it drops tomorrow and single days go on sale Friday.

No way, they keep talking about how passes are selling quickly. At this point I bet they are hoping to not have to sell single days.

I'm guessing the line up will be announced along with another price hike? It would be weird to tease us with a picture like and not announce the daily line up.
